New cooldown timers

Hi devs,

I think having everything on the same 20s cooldown is a step in the wrong direction. I think its the right step just wrong direction. Everything working every 2 secs instead of 1 secs, fine. Instead of grouping everything up into the same 20s windows, off-step: HoTs - 16s, Dots - 18s, Buffs - 20s. I would prefer to go 14/16/18s instead of 20s, cuz 20s feels a little long.

Thanks

    Yeah I feel the same.
I'd come with the following timers though (with 2s ticks for the performance reason):
    Buffs/Debuffs : 20s
    Hots/Dots: 10s (6 ticks)
    Ground Effects: 10s (6 ticks)
    Burst Hots/Dots: 4s (3 ticks)

Heals need to tick every 1 second because incoming dmg in boss fights also ticks every second. Otherwise healers will have a hard time to keep the group alive.

20s is doable, as any number of Elf Bane users running on 19s will confirm. That part is just a question of getting used to it.

    The problems are however:
    a) It's not uniform 20, because class / skill line passives, so stuff lines up less now than before. Engulfing Flames for example is 24s because of the Searing Heat passive, and you can pair it with a Wall that lasts 20 or 30, as opposed to the status quo where you have a 14s Wall to go with your 14s class DoTs. One example among many.
    b) Together with the longer duration we're getting a damage nerf. Both combined mean the cutoff point where a recast becomes remotely viable is atrocious now, which wasn't necessarily the case before.

That said, I'd be golden with a default of 14 myself; but no matter the number picked - if you're going to standardize, standardize, don't make it more over the place because you forgot the passives.

I'm struggling to understand why people throw DoTs and buffs in the same bag. In my 14 years of experience in MMOs the buffs almost always have durations running in minutes or they're toggled auras, while DoTs are very typically between 6s and 15s long and it varies from one class to the next. I think ESO doesn't need a single standardized DoT duration across all skill lines. It's not the thing that people complained about.

It's the buffs that are ridiculously short and their durations are all over the place. Just look at Sorcerer - 33s on both morphs of Surge + 20s or 30s of Lightning Form. Do I cut Surge 3 seconds short, or do I let it run longer and barswap again 2 seconds later? Bar swapping is one of the most lag-sensitive actions. DK - 36s or 49s Molten Weapon + either 20s Armor or 30s of Major Resolve from Balance. It's exactly this kind of nonsense that annoys people and forces more bar swaps. This is the kind of thing that makes it harder for new, casual or simply tired players to maintain perfect uptimes without wasting resources. I would be in favor of extending and standardizing the bread and butter buffs at anywhere between 30s and 60s. At the very least the in-class buffs should match, like they already do for Wardens. And the passives that extend duration by a % value would need some work too, it's a dated design.

The switch to DoT ticks every 2 seconds requires some itemization overhaul as well. Weapon enchantments absolutely have to last 6s now. Trimming them to 4s would work too, though I'd rather see a minor buff over yet another nerf.
