why did we gut dots damage agian? i can get behind double the length, but if 2 casts=20s was 3 spamable why is 20 second now 2 spamable. thas massive 33% nerf, so you get less upfront damage AND less backend damage. they talk as if you get more back end damage, did someone just do terrible math or did they want to nerf damage output?

Oh it's definitely a damage nerf, it's intended

Except the big issue is I doubt you'll be able to really be able to capitalize on the full duration since fights are generally shorter or have mechanics that involve movement that will make them deal even less damage in the long run.

but how are they more worthwhile in long fights, usually longer has more movement so missed tics AND its just strait up less damage, on what planet is that more worthwhile.

After this change DOTS will do so little damage in PvP that even after health recovery is cut in half by Battle Spirit the average player will still have enough to almost completely mitigate the incoming damage of 2 DOTS. They could change them to tick for an hour and it won't make a health bar budge.

It's not more worthwhile in a longer fight. I think that is straight up misinformation to mask them wanting to nerf DoTs.

Just like last patch when they Nerfed Arctic Blast because of the "Aggressive Nature" of Wardens

dots ticking every 2 sec is very slow, almost unnoticeable

and dot dmg being down i could see the numerous problems

all we really needed was CURRENT dots lasting longer, not being nerfed dmg wise in the process

it already feels very slow with a 10 sec duration dot dealing dmg 1x per sec

but a 20 sec dot dealing dmg every 2 sec is just gonna be worse

and i like dots, but thats just awful

Who even thought that nerfing dot dps is a thing that will make casual player's life easier?
If anything, they would likely miss a couple frames of spammables, but not DoT timers.
Which means DoTs need duration (to, like, 15s) and dps increase to make game easier for new players.
Which would also make them useful in PvP again.

And then you re-balance dungeons by adjusting hp to players DPS.

Pushing this, I don't know why everyone is talking about some minor class balancing changes or light attack nerfs. This is by for the biggest change in this patch, and it will shift the meta in both PvP and PvE away from using dots at all.

You already pointed out the issues so I'm not repeating, but dots (in PvP) are already super weak. Long lasting dots have no impact on fast-paced fights where a nightblade kills you in 3 GCDs, and in trash fights for PvE this change is just straight up horrible as well.

at least 50-60% of the class balance changes are purely the dot nerfs lol

sorcs and wardens got more of a brunt of non-dot related changes, but on a whole almost every class and weapon skill line is like 40-60% dot changes

That's the neat part, it's not logical. It only kinda makes sense on a spreadsheet, it doesn't actually make a lick of sense in practice.

Not to mention our big F-U Advanced Species Nerf that made the DoT nerfs even worse. Which I'll have to test to see if the Winter's Revenge Nerf is Only 33% or if it's even more with the Advanced Species Change. Like damn.

but it dosent make sense on a spread sheet either, strictly less damage can not be more effective damage in any situation
