The worst thing about this patch

Is the consistent move towards standardisation of all the skills. At this point you might as well remove classes and just have all skills available to everyone.

Build diversity was already bad to begin with but now it is down the drain.

What about DoT builds? As in builds that focus on DoT stacking and use that as their primary damage?

I play DoT builds primarily in most games. This patch has all but killed that option. So I look at this patch and think to myself,
“They are killing my favourite play style, at least if I want to use that play style in end game.”

So what exactly is left for me? Burst only? Spamming one skill most of the time?

I’m sorry but no, I would have preferred you half the duration of DoT’s but increase there damage per second as opposed to what you have done here. I like DoT management and I like to see them scale high.

You’ve killed my favourite play style ZoS. There’s nothing left for me here.

I’ll be watching the patch notes over the coming weeks, but if DoT builds stay gone from the game.

So will I.

It will be unfortunate to see you go. Because i bet this will. When dragonflight comes out I'll be spending a lot of my time playing world of warcraft. The frost death knight talent trees look pretty solid unlike this garbage in eso.

Have you tried this on PTS or you just assuming? Because necros are probably getting the higher parses of all the classes right now.

You'll still be using mostly dots + 1 spammable. So no, dots aren't going away.

It’s about DoT’s being viable in most content. Not niche situations when high health enemies stay in one spot.

Like I said, a 5 second DoT that did 1.3 of a spammable would be better. Instead of 700 per second you would deal 1400 but 5 seconds would mean less up time forcing decision making and spreading out builds.

I'm not sure your first point follows into the second.

The differentiation of skills between classes has often been in the passives associated with those skills. It's not terrible IMO that one class DOT deals as much damage as another, it's what you do with it and how it benefits your overall game plan. E.g. does it proc a status effect I need, does it increase my execute damage, does it trigger a buff I can provide to my group, etc etc. Standardization in some regards doesn't mean everything need be the same in every regard.

The other point, which I 100% agree with, is about the variety of playstyles within classes. As I have suggested in another thread, there should be more options to focus on either direct damage or damage over time, to let players chose the kind of rotation that is comfortable to them. For example, why aren't there more sets like Elf Bane, but for all DOTs? Or effects that shorten DOT duration without lowering the overall damage?
After that, class identity could come through in the way a DK DOT build is different from a Nightblade DOT build, e.g. in the status effects or debuffs it applies. Doesn't have to be damage and duration.
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

This is exactly what is needed. If a person wants to specialise in DoT damage they should be able to, but at the cost of losing direct damage.

A CP that reduces DoT duration by 50% but not affecting damage would be what I call a DoT build. It’s taking DoT’s and turning them into short lived pseudo DPS skills, being able to stack them but for a shorter duration. For me this is what a DoT build is. DoT’s that tickle over a long duration don’t qualify unless they have short lived rapid DoT’s that deal high damage to work with them.

If they took Winter’s Revenge and Eruption, these would be great candidates, have them ticks every 0.5 seconds for about 750 on a decent build for about 5 seconds. Resulting in 7500 for duration. This is what a DPS DoT looks like. Why aren’t these kind of skills in the game? Every class should have access to one DoT that does something like this. It’s the only way to make DoT’s relevant in PvP.

Agreed. I made a build that attempts to play the style of an affliction warlock. All dot abilities and I used vampire drain as my spammable. Used sets and CPs that boosted dots, and it generated a lot of ultimate so I could rapidly use the destro ult. It's super fun...

This patch absolutely destroys this fun build. Because they want everyone in the game to play the same style as a raider which is drop all your ground dots and spam your spammable.
