A sad reality of life is that some people enjoy causing others pain, be it talking about a person needing to be gang *** in zone chat, like I saw two days ago, or doing things that intentionally cause people to loose money like the OP. That is why we have the Jeffrey Dahmers and the guys who think its a good idea to make home-made bombs and blow up the Boston Marathon. You have to choose how much exposure you have to the risk and if it is worth the reward. Both in-game instances SHOULD be reportable and bannable if I read the ToS agreement right.
BTW, I hope you are including the postage AND the CoD fee over the top of the charge for the item being sold when you price the item.

I was actually being nice and paid the entire COD fee myself... so it definitely wasn't a decline for that.

As of now, the COD fee is a HUGE problem with troll players... It wasn't a big deal when I was selling low priced stuff because I would only lose like 50 gold, but now I am selling expensive items and losing hundreds! In the most recent trade I lost over 1,000 gold...

All a player has to do to make another player lose a bunch of gold is tell them to COD the items and then cancel the order... the player that sends the items instantly loses any COD fee he/she paid. This is outrageous! It makes me not even want to attempt selling to other players anymore because I am afraid I will lose my COD fee...

Please either take out the COD fee or make it so we get the COD fee refunded to us if the other player declines the trade...

I like the idea of the COD fee only being taken once the trade is complete. Otherwise, it gets refunded.

So I ran into this...was on a bank alt, went to send something to someone, didn't have enough gold on the toon, since it is a storage character. Was going to sent it cod, and of course I couldn't, without going back to the bank fighting through the bank lag to get into my bank pulling out money and then sending it.

COD should be charged to the receiver. Charging it to the sender is just dumb...as there is no way to charge the receiver without likely increasing the cod fee.

On topic I've not seen this because when I send a mail that never gets opened I usually get it back 3 days later with the COD fee attached as gold. So you don't lose the gold you just have it be tied up for 3 days.

It is not just the COD fee, the house cut, the cost of repairs and the base costs of mounts are all set far too high. I understand why these items are used to cool off the economy, but they have gone far to far with them. In fact, this is my only complaint with this game, as I really like it.

Game just needs an auction house.

They will add one eventually when they figure out there way doesn't work well.

Works fine for me. ESO has an incredible resource overflow, AH would have ridiculously low and near pointless prices on almost everything. Not all games need an AH, let them die. D3 tried it and proved why it's a bad idea. It's another way for bots/scammers/etc. to abuse and screw up a game's economy. ESO doesn't need it, simple as that. Use /zone to trade, join a trade guild, sell stuff to merchants.

I'm level 24 and have 26K. I can fit 95 in my inventory with my inventory-horse currently, I think 90 in the bank.

Not really sure what else to spend my gold on other than inventory upgrades. Which is then used to get stuff to make more gold. It is a weird cycle.

The COD is even more fun when the guy decides to let it sit in his mailbox for a few days and your money or items sits in mail purgatory. Yep, this system was thought out well well!! I personally love relying on total strangers.

COD fees themselves are too much. I got scammed other day buy someone "Buying all VR glyphs" I COD'ed 6 white vr glyphs for the price and paid enough fees that I if they had accepted I only would of really sold them for 200g

Edited because i didn't read porperly. But i discovered and double reported a exploit at release with the COD where you can get the item without paying anything. I haven't tested it further because there is no exploit reporting policy from Zeni yet, getting you healthy out of any action (the guild dupe shown).

Agree totally. Also, from a purely practical perspective, I don't think an AH would even be possible due to the megaserver implementation - can you imagine how unwieldy it would be to have the items of every single player in the game being sold in the same store? Guild stores can get bad enough with 500 people, I can't even imagine how horrendous it would be with thousands of times times that volume.

I have to agree with others that the price itself for sending COD is crazy. It's something like 20% of your sale price. I was selling 1,200 in materials yesterday and when I saw that it was going to charge me 250g just to send it I said screw that, I'll go track down the guy and hand him the items personally. When I told him how much it would cost to COD it he even thought it was crazy.

C.O.D. taxes should be at the receiving person's expense. Plain and simple. Does not take a rocket science to figure that out.

That would fix the issue if they absolutely need to keep the COD fee in place.

There are threads if you want to whine about an AH.

Here is a thread with the maths on COD...
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/82648/new-price-of-cod

The lockpick example is a real red flag. I don't think you can ever stop those people that want to abuse the system or fool other players. EVE Online has a very elaborate Contract system. It's pretty awesome actually but it can still be manipulated by people to catch those who click too fast. I think the COD system (not the fees or funky math!) is fine. I think the only thing Zenimax needs to do there is to put a warning pop up anytime someone is about to send or receive something COD regarding scams. In EVE it is very clear with the wording and if you are about to receive money the amount is colored green. If you are about to pay money the amount is colored red. On top of that, there is a log and that log uses colors the same way.

Also for in-person trading, make sure to triple check before you hit the submit button.

Nobody else has mentioned that if you sell 5 things in the same mail and CoD it for 1000g, it charges you 500g in fees?

The tax compounds for every item you send... WHY!?!?

THAT is the worst part about the CoD system IMO. Attention Zenimax, PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, FIX THIS!!! @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌

I think that the cod fee should always be paid by the customer who buys the items, but only if he accepts the items (to avoid griefing the other way around). This is how it works in real life too. If you buy a product from an online store and choose the most convenient delivery option (mail), it will usually (at least in my country) cost you more instead of the store paying for the delivery. Personally I follow this principle even now and always include the cod price in the mails that I send so that I won't suffer from it but it would be great if they changed this all together. The in-game customer should have the option to choose the easiest delivery option or to make the effort to meet somewhere if he wants the items for a cheaper price. I always also allow the option to meet somewhere instead of paying for the fee. This possibility for griefing is, of course, very annoying and a thing that should be fixed.

  • flemmingrohdb16_ESO
    this is indeed a problem
ive been lucky sofar, maybe because i tell people what they have to pay including COD before i mail it

if you want to sell something for 1000 COD, and someone says they want to buy, if you then stick them with a bill of 1200 who is in the wrong here? the person may not even have 1200!
so if you want the COD price to be 1200 then advertice it as 1200 not 1000

another mail thing that annoy's the *** out of me, is that its cheaper to send several mails than 1 mail containing several items
if i sell 1 motif COD 550, im charged 65 gold
    if i sell 2 motif's COD 1100, im charged 230 gold !!!
130 i could live with although a discount for multiple items in 1 mail would be nice, being charged 4 times as much is simply insane, i have no clue how they came up with that math
i tried selling 600 fishing baits at one time, and was almost charged more in COD fee than the deal would give me.... needles to say we had to meet in person, which was quite annoying

edit: i think i see where the bad math is, because im mailing 2 items it charges me 10% of the COD price for each item
    1 item is 10% + 10 gold = 55+10
    2 items is 20% + 10 gold = 220+10
then 6 stacks like my fishing bait deal would be 60% + 10 gold
this has to be a bug it makes no sense whatsoever, why would they want their mailsystem to be bugged down with 6 times as many mails?

Once again, the math is already done in another discussion.
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/82648/new-price-of-cod

The send mail has 6 slots. The fee percentage is based on how many slots you are using. If you send a single stack of 100 items, the stack is treated by the percentage scaling as one item. :o

This information is already in the thread I linked.

As intended!! They want us to spam /zone for an hour. Finally find that special someone with that special something and trade in person.

Otherwise a functional guild store or auction house would make life way too convenient. This is a sick house MMO, everything must be paid for in blood, especially simple trades.
