will they be implementing dyes for armor and weapons into this game?

I am really enjoying the armor sets in the game. Especially the higher level gear. I like mixing different armor for different races. The only thing that is frustrating is that The colors do not match at all.

has there been any talk of dyes coming in a future expansion?

I have not heard anything but i am sure they will at some point. Though i must remind you that no TES game to date has had dyes so there is a possibility they will not. As much as i wish i could run around in all black armor i cant..im stuck in grown/pink/blue or cream at this moment

During the Reddit AMA during the beta stress tests, the same question was asked. The answer was that it was a possible thought for the future.
So its not a definite yes, but it hasn't been ruled out either.

Lets hope if it does come to fruition, that its not just tacked on & takes part in the crafting system & using resources. It could be a particular item that gives a particular colour, and only the crafter of thse items can withdraw the dyes....

Or/and it could be that the alchemist is able to get the dye from all materials or combine them to create new colours.

The only thing that needs to be restricted is the vibrancy of colours. If they take from the aesthetics of the game, then they would not be a good idea (IMO).

If dyes are going to be added they are a long way away. Armor textures have to be made with dyes in mind. I would not count on seeing them for a very long time.

For now the answer is crafting. You can make (or have made for you) some very nice armor, and you can choose the motif used.

I agree. PLEASE GOD NO neon pink or green or oranges or yellows....gold is about as yellow as it should get. Emerald green is about as far as it should go. Think gemstone colors and metal colors and we're good.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

I would be up for some dyes. I know no TES game has had them, but prior games have allowed you to mod the way armor looks and such, so you could get something you wanted. Dyes seem like they'd be a nice compromise there. I wouldn't change any armor I've personally had so far (I rather like the robes I've picked) but can see where I may want to at some point.

Maybe in a few major patches or something.

In some podcast I recently heard a Dev talk "unofficially" and one of his "unofficial" hints was that he had played around with (in-game)dies that afternoon.

So it seems to be something they are working on.
I very much hope it won´t be as halfassed as the GW2 dye system, though even that would be preferable to nothing.
A more refined wardrobe&dye system like in LotRO would be indeed awesome, but I´m not holding my breath for it.

Thats actually what led me to ask this question in the first place. Because I have created a Nord Chest piece that I like and an Altmere (sorry if I misspelled this) Helm that I like. They look very good together in my opinion but the colors just don't work well together. I would love to take the blue accent from the helm and use that same accent for the chest piece as well.

We need the ability to dye and we need wardrobe ability. It's 2014. How was this not implemented already?!

great news, in the latest article they said that they are going to be implementing armor dyes and tints into the game by the end of 2014, along with a bunch of other really great updates. It's really nice to finally hear from the devs about what they have been doing and what they are currently working on.
