... Anyone else finds Ember's voicing exceedingly weird?

Her voice is fine, however the fact she doesn't like stealing and you lose raport with her when doing so, is strange considering she is khajiit. Khajiit like to sneak...

Wait her rapport increases from entering the thieves guild HQ and doing heists but she doesn't like stealing....??

She sounds worse and worse each time I hear about her. I would hope that is a bug.

Somehow I feel that companions voices are extensions of their backstories.

Mirri is anxious, occasionally passive-aggressive and not easy to get along with, but she is agreeable (so she says). She is, however, very capable with the right build.

Bastian is good to the point of being too good, but he does ask you if you're alright after a fight. He is a good match for a lawful good character.

Isobel (my current favourite) is a knight. What's not to like. My lawful good Templar has put Baz on the bench for her atm.

Ember is a breath of fresh air. I for one like the absence of classic Khajiit dialect and phrasing as I feel that that would be rather cliché. She is what she is, rather young and very enthusiastic. Well done!

Ember is however an enigma to me. With her racial passives one will try to do a classic two dagger approach as she might be a mage now but an assassin she might be.

Mirri is posh and bookish. Her problem is that her damaging class abilities are all single target melee minus the ultimate and (according to nightblade mains ive spoken to) they gave her most of the worst abilities from the shadow and siphon trees. Most admit her Twilight Mantle got both morphs players have access to which is nice, but is hampered by the fact that its only activated at below 50% HP which makes the stealth semi redundant considering how most nightblades use both morphs in very different strategies.

Haven't played around with Bastian yet but yeah he's definitely a puritan and his skills are clunkier than Isobel's it seems which is why most prefer her over Bastian to tank. His potion skill also strikes me as extemely useless unless they're better than the ones master alchemist players can craft but again i haven't played with him much and like Mirri probably in need of a skill overhaul.

Mirri does have a non-class multi-target skill in Bow > Trick Shot which is quite useful.

Archer is my preferred build for her atm Her roll-dodging and jumping around is rather amusing.

When testing companions I like just light attacking enemies then holding block and observing the companions do their thing (I love watching them) Maybe some healing might be necessary but I often let companions die to expose weaknesses in their builds (or the type of enemy that kills them).

In all fairness as you progress companions up through the games difficulty stages abject failure is inevitable as companions cannot and should not, be fit for solo (albeit semi-solo, here's where some judicious healing comes into play) fights against a World Boss for example. Companions AI is under-developed but that's another topic altogether.

My dearest friend Bastian is now a work in progress as a DPS 2-hander, both himself and myself agree that our sweet Isobel is a better tank and it's perhaps time to change roles. He is an easy going optimist just like his master.

Ember however is currently accompanying my main character as I'm very excited to see how she will eventually perform as a melee fighter. I like her voice and personality. We're both positive and looking forward to our adventures together.

Ember loves stealing. What she doesn't like is you getting caught. If you're spotted, or if you willingly pay your bounty, she doesn't like that. Trespass, steal, and murder all you want...just be sneaky about it.

Honestly she's exactly what I'd expect a kitten to be like if given humanoid form. She's sweet and giddy and violent all at once. If you've had a kitten, you know what that's like. They'll cuddle adorably and then sprint across the room, smash your water glass onto the floor, and go murder a bird in the next moment.

Khajiit don't only have low voices - Lahini from Southern Elsweyr comes to mind. Lahini's voice is very high and soft, possibly because she is also young, or maybe that's just her voice. Everyone has mentioned Zhasim from Wrothgar, but Centurion Burri from Reaper's March also doesn't speak in typical Khajiit cadence and she chalks it up to just having been a soldier for too long to care. So the precedent has been set, IMO.

I too find her voice very odd. I haven't paid attention to her back story so I was irritated when I first heard her speak.
When ZOS said a ragamuffin Khajiit that grows up on the streets with flexible morals, I expected a voice to fit THAT character type. Not some overly chirpy human-sounding voice. She might as well have been a Breton instead of a Khajiit....
Really disappointed with her chosen voice.

My only question about Ember is... well. She sounds like a teenager. Maybe like 17 or something. So, my question. Is she of legal age for her race or not?
To be the Chosen One really sounds like lots of fun,
But in the end you'll just be someone's lunch

I love her voice. Its perfect in my opinion.
She's the only companion I can actually tolerate using. :)

Her Darloc eyes do suck though, but I hate those eyes in general since they don't sit right on ANY character. I mean it's cool that they're bright and almost glowy and kinda magical lookin', buuuut....
They're not centered enough and always look like they're tilted lookin' down(?) too much on every single character I've ever previewed them on. They're just... off. They also don't fill the whole eyeball on Khajiit, since the iris isn't wide enough. Meaning you always have to see the whites of her eyes, which you typically never see on a cat so it's disconcerting.

TLDR; she should've had basic yellow Khajiit eyes instead of the eyes from the Crown Crates if they're never going to touch them up.

Why are you bringing up real life vocal anatomy in a fictional game? Even so your examples are not even about accents.

In that case no character in game should have a health bar, we should get fractures when we fall from height or blocking heavy blows from monsters, you know real life anatomy involves bones.

Her VA is literally not Khajiit like on purpose. When you place her as a houseguest , she actually say "People think it's strange that I don't talk like other Khajiit. I mean... I could try ! This one, that one, you one, me one. How's that ?"

I thought her voice was great, and the VA has done a fantastic job. I didn't find it far outside the range of Khajiit accents we've experienced in the game so far, and given the great size of Elsweyr, its conceivable to me we haven't heard every possible accent anyway.

I don't like the teen giggle thing, its a bit cringe for me, but that's likely to be personal taste.

I do agree that some of the Reachfolk accents in the Markarth DLC were pretty bad. Not even so much what the target dialect was meant to be, just the quality.

As an aside, I noticed with this chapter ZOS have used some different accents for some of the Bosmer. I'm not British and don't have good knowledge of the various accents but they might be Welsh or west-country accents? Either way, they sound amazing and really suit the Bosmer.

Well, it wasn't me bringing that point in. I was responding to (pretty much as RL) point brought.

And following your logic, no character in the game should have any even vaguely recognizable characteristics, including general morphology.

Khajiit loves Ember, and Ember loves khajiit as well - rapport currently over 2500 on all 18 characters, with 5k+ rapport on main. This one does wish she adhered to a more traditional grammar though. There is reason khajiit do not self reference. Is a matter of politeness and discretion. Good manners. Same reason one does not stare make eye contact with and then stare at Senche tiger.

She grew up in High Isles so you expect a more Breton accent to match her surroundings?

Remember that Khajiit we helped in Wrothgar? He was basically an Orc in a Khajiit body, his speech, culture, even his clothing were Orcish in mannor. He was raised that way as a very small child.

Maybe someone has mentioned but there is also a Khajiit in Reapers March main questline (where you may have to decide a particular favorite Khajiits fate...kinda...to proceed) who speaks with "I" instead of "this one".

Centurion Burri. Even Captain Jimila and Quartermaster Oblan have very Tamrielic speech patterns - no instance of "Khajiit" or "this one". And Lahini from the main quest in Southern Elsweyr has a very high soft voice, no rasp at all.

    Excellent! This explains a lot.

This reminds me of a dear departed friend who had the most mellifluous voice I have ever heard. Originally from Jamaica he was often livid when countrymen ridiculed him for his "inability" to speak patois. To hear him recite Shakespeare and other gems with that wonderful voice was exhilarating to say the least.

The culture one lives in colors ones voice as we mimic our surroundings while growing up.
