... Anyone else finds Ember's voicing exceedingly weird?

... I mean... You can detect a faintest hint of a Khajiit accent if you REALLY REALLY REALLY try, but just by the voicing alone, I would have guessed her being anything BUT a Khajiit...

Probably because she spent her youth on the streets of Skywatch and has been living in High Isle as an apprentice to a Breton Sorcerer. I wouldn't expect her to be as Khajiit in manner and speech as someone who has spent their whole life in Elsewyr.

I like everything about her, voice included.

i've yet to actually hear her voice acting but i can say i don't really like the idea that a character is expected to have a certain kind of voice or accent as dictated by their race. seems like it would just unnecessarily stifle the writer's and voice actor's creativity, yknow?

I made a beeline to her quest as soon as the server opened, geared her up with all my spare blues and managed to level her up a couple of levels before the server went down.

Getting her as my companion was my top priority :)

I expect that they think the backstory and unexpected lack of a Khajiit accent is avant garde. Personally, I would have preferred the traditional Khajiit accent and a more...Khajiit linked backstory for our first Khajiti companion. I'm by no means a stickler for lore, I just really LIKE Khajiit's and the traditional Khajiiti way of speaking.

On the subject of the lore, I feel like it's a lost opportunity to really celebrate Khajiit's and have a more personal connection to Khajiit lore, worship, and way of life through a Khajiit NPC follower. Overall, I find myself a little underwhelmed by their choices.

Perhaps she'll grow on me, time will tell. I just find her accent sounds really weird, inconsistent, and forced. From one piece of dialogue to the next she sounds weird and different to me, and I didn't really find myself all that enamored with her. I wasn't impressed with the voice acting, unfortunately. I like her well enough, but again, time will tell. I found myself favoring Isobel rather than her, which is funny because Ember's backstory technically suits most of my characters more.

It's all a matter of personal taste, truly. Some will love her, and some wont.

As with Bastian, I'm sure this set of companions will be equally as polarizing,

    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
    Legends never die

I thought I was the only one. I was really excited to have a Khajiit companion, especially with her personality...until I heard her voice. It throws me off and feels awkward hearing non-Khajiiti accent on them.

She grew up in High Isles so you expect a more Breton accent to match her surroundings?

Remember that Khajiit we helped in Wrothgar? He was basically an Orc in a Khajiit body, his speech, culture, even his clothing were Orcish in mannor. He was raised that way as a very small child.

Interesting that you bring Zhasim up, as we met him again in South Elsweyr for an extension of his story. I actually liked that character, and the use of the Orcish accent and mannerisms within that story. It felt natural, as it was steeped in a strong mixture of both Orcish ways and Khajiti mysticism. He was well voice acted, and had a strong sense of personality and character. You really felt he was rooted in the storytelling of Wrothgar, and later, in South Elsweyr, it was very interesting to meet him again and see him reconnect to his Khajiit roots.

Where as with Ember, I'm not really getting that well written blend of cultures from her. Something about her feels, forced and... "for the sake of it"...she just didn't feel as well written as Zhasim at all.

I agree, her voice acting and writing is very disappointing, and it has nothing to do with the fact that she doesn't sound like a regular khajiit - it's just not that good.

Reminds me a little of Eveli, just couldn't take that character seriously at all, felt like a cartoon caricature rather than a character with depth.

I guess I was hoping for something different, really really wanted to like that character though. Who knows, maybe she'll grow on me.

It's a Khajiit, just be glad it's verbal. I had to give my Argonians written instructions on my plantation at Tel Uvirith, but then we figured out that they can't read, so it was just point here, point there, after that.

I haven't spent much time with her, but I thought she was charming.

At the same time, I totally get the sentiment about wanting a more traditional Khajiit for a companion. Someone fully steeped in Khajiit culture who could have given us another window into that world. That would've been fun. So far, though, I also like what we've got.

I didn't met yet that Khajiit in Wrothgar, i must see him because as was there writen, Ember grew up in different culture, she was risen differently.

So i am okay with her.

If that's true of her background then not having the accent is Lore friendly. If she never learned to speak Taagra from other Khajiit in Elsweyr then she wouldn't sound like them.

A Khajiit who grew up in Skywatch should either have a Khajiiti or a High Elven accent (did she grow up in Skywatch or High Isles?), I think. Then again, I can somewhat understand the choice since the American accent has, through our movie culture, become a sort of de facto code for an enthusiastic attitude.

It would be nice to have a khajit companion who talks like this one. Gives Sammy a sense of home.

But Ember is pretty fun to hang around with, although this one thought she gave rapport for successful pickpocketing, but nothing yet, not even stealing from guards.
