While I agree that the sentence OP brings up is misleading, what ESO releases in a year is more than what FF14 and WoW release averaged out to a year.

In fact, ESO surpasses FF14 easily as FF14 has only released 5 expansions/DLCs and is slightly older than ESO. That is
not even one every two years. WoW is not much better than that.

    ESO wins

Nah. That's why ESO's storylines are generic, repetitive, and stale cause they churning them out every year. FFXIV has more complex and in-depth characters and storyline.

Ah yea, that's why XIVs ARR campaign is openly regarded as one of the worst slogs in MMO history? Like so bad Square had to cut down the quest and it's STILL over 200+ quests just to do the ARR patch content into HW. Wow so much amazing story in those horrible fetch quests that rob you of hours upon hours of meaningful gameplay.

And the rest of the games story is about as good as a bottom of the barrel JRPG from 1999, that somehow despite being one of the biggest MMOs on the market, can't afford voice actors for most of their story content. 2022, XIV has surpassed WoW, and we're still reading the same text boxes from FF1? Amazing.

Sure, totally surpasses the fully professionally voice acted, hours upon hours of story content that ESO puts out. Not little fetch quests to waste your time for 30+ hours like XIV does to pad out it's expansions. Actual story content with a purpose and characters that develop.

Yea, this totally isn't a blatant XIV ad.

Actually FFXIV story is now regarded as the BEST JRPG Story ever made and i must say the Endwalker campaign was such an epic ride, it lasted soo long and that ending 2 boss fights were beyond F insane and then the long ass cutscene to end it all was beyond words. eso has yet to make a story in game that has brought so much joy, emotion and epic feeling. very few games i played have. they know how to make epic in ff.

ESO story is more like quests, it's never made he shout omg that was epic asf or feel sad when a main char dies or the feeling you get for the main enemy when you learn their past etc.

I found FF14 quests more like something that is confused about what it wants to be. While I have not seen the last expansion, much of their best quests are half cut scene and half reading a book.

Regardless, as for value ESO wins by a large margin. FF14 not only makes you but the expansion but also forced you to pay a full subscription to enjoy it.

I don’t regret coming to o ESO from FF14. Have never looked back.

I don't look back because i play both and don't limit myself to just 1 game, All mmo's get boring after a few months. FFXIV side quests are 90% boring kill x quests true but the main story is miles ahead of any other mmo and the good side quests like hildibrand are very good, also ffxiv has new game + allowing you to replay all the main story, this is amazing for an mmo. WoW's story is just a mess and hard to follow. ESO is just not that exciting at all and is following the same themes it seems now between expansions.

ESO open world is much better than FFXIV and you have more things to do in the open world, FFXIV has much better and streamlined dedicated group content (and a party finder ffs eso needs a party finder for trials)

As for the sub. I feel like I can't enjoy ESO without a sub? I'm forced to sub to do half the dungeons in the game, dungeons that come with year long adventure you have to sub to and the craft bag is a 100% must for me. So ESO pretty much forces you to sub unless you want to skip all 4 dungeons per year and half the expansions zones or PAY a very high price to buy them with crowns which then you still miss the craft bag.

Oh yeah lets focus on side quests which is boring in like any game. The main storyline is 10x better than anything in ESO. I don't care how high the budget is or the voice acting if we keep repeating the same generic themes with copy-paste character personalities that keep constantly being regurgitated and follows the same formula. I play both games and each have their faults but the main story of FFXIV is deep and engaging and the villains are complex and can even be sympathized with as opposed to the usual one dimensional ones. ESO will never come close to the success and quality and FFXIV but that's fine cause it don't have to. It has a certain niche and crowd that it caters to and it gives them success, so they don't have to compete to be the best mmo.

I mean, let's be honest, this game is pay to play.

Playing without ESO plus is horrendous, mainly because of the craft bag. It's way too much hassle.

That's why they are called "Chapters" and not "Expansions".

You could take a month off subbing to wow or ffxiv and buy the ESO chapter on sale. And if you haven't played for a while, ESO offers hours of fun trying to figure out all the buffs, nerfs, gear changes, skill resets, CP resets and why your class just isn't as fun as before.

Greymoor put me to sleep. Blackwood, the less said the better, still haven't gotten to second quest in main story. Nobody ever in Blackwood. Do those incredibly red and fiery Oblivion gates and no one there.

Small island, incomprehensible and in my case totally unwanted card game, another companion I won't ever use. Very short main story that ends abruptly all says don't spend the money.

I wish I wanted to play it.
