And a fair salutations to everyone here tonight!

I've come back to pose one question which I feel is rather important, right now...During the past couple years I've been playing The Elder Scrolls Online, I've been trying to establish a good standing within a few of the many player-made guilds one can join in the game. Unfortunately, most of the would-be 'leaders' of those guilds ended up dropping their ban hammers down onto my virtual head. And usually, without any prior warning or notice to me, whatsoever! So, here's my question: Has anyone else here been unceremoniously booted out of any of the guilds they joined up with? And if so, did any of their higher-ups contact you and explain the reasons behind banning you? I really would like to find out what in-game/online 'crimes' I've supposedly committed recently, to warrant being punished with an automatic ban and block from 3 of these guilds, which I might as well start referring to as 'clans'.

Anyone here who happens to read up on this topic may now voice their thoughts on it.

Yesterday someone was giving out stuff in zone chat for like 6 hours

    They gave me 1M gold

I got banned once in a guild 2 years ago from a trading guild for writing in all caps, at the start I thought it was not my fault,
but then I realized it was my fault. They did explain it.

You either adapt and learn or you run up against the same wall.

Maybe this guild has a ban hammer, sooner or later they will run out of nails.

The best is to move on and find something that fits.

most guilds ive usually left because they were trade guilds which were too inactive to make any sales

one guild ive left was because it was a guild that originally was no dues but then started requiring dues (a change i was against to begin with), but eventually they locked out selling anything in the guild store until you paid, i dont remember if they kicked me for refusing to pay dues or left because i couldnt sell anything, dont even remember the guild since it was a few years ago lol

dont get me wrong they were a good guild, but i hate paying dues (i know traders are expensive, but the traders themselves are also a problem because theres such a limited number of them and virtually the only real gold sink in the game that competition is high, and when you have 500 people collecting gold together thats going to make high bid numbers)

My guild experiences have been all positive. I only joined some guilds fairly recently, and ended up joining 5, then leaving 2 of them (on perfectly amicable terms), each one because it didn't meet my needs, or because i felt I couldn't make a decent contribution to it.

Okay, apart from the one initial reply, I'm grateful to everyone who has come here and voiced not only your thoughts but also your experiences. Though, I still don't understand what I could've possibly done to deserve a ban from guilds [snip]

All I can determine from the last messages I had sent on their servers or guild-chats was the fact which the last guil-sorry, CLAN-leader(s) of the last "guild" I listed here hated on me just for offering hugs. [snip] they might have booted me out over my questioning them on the Reachmen Clans, which only appear in the ES-games. My last ones were about marrying into one of these fictional clans, and even came with an apology in advance!

Ergo: The NPCs who appear in these games act considerably more civilized and cordial than the clan-leader players I've encountered within ESO. Never before have I ever met anyone who had so many hostilities! At least not before 'delving' into some of ESO's player-made 'clans'. They're some of the most butt-bashing brutes I think I've come across in my life!

You say they 'hated' on you for 'offering hugs'. So does that mean they asked you to stop and you kept offering? Also, when you inquired about marrying into a fictional clan, was that on a RP server/thread? Usually guilds ban when someone disregarded rules, trolled, or posted inappropriate things, etc.

I've been in a guild with toxic leadership. However, I feel like the implementation of the guild finder makes it easier to avoid those type of guilds. Other than that most of the time you'll be fine as long as you...

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

To be perfectly honest and serious for a moment some players are sensitive to things like hugs from strangers due to irl stuff that has happened. It could be that this upset some people. Especially if you were asked to stop. There are also guilds that have rules against RPing in them due to issues.

I help run a few guilds. All we ask is common decency, respect, you listen to officers, no religion, politics or spam in guild chat. After that it's login and participate. Those are the rules for 4 trade and social guilds.

    Greeting all,

After editing some posts, we would like to remind everyone that Naming and Shaming is against the Forum's Community Rules as stated below:
Naming-and-Shaming: We do not allow posts or threads that are created for the purpose of “naming-and-shaming” other community member(s). “Naming-and-shaming” is the act of creating a post to call out an individual or group by name, and making them the subject of public accusation, ridicule and/or shaming. Generally, naming-and-shaming involves an in-game situation and/or Terms of Service violation, which the ESO Community Team is unable to assist with. A certain amount of rivalry and competitive razzing is healthy for any game community, especially one with PVP elements, but naming-and-shaming goes well beyond that. It typically elevates to a point where the subject feels legitimately harassed. We believe that naming-and-shaming posts and threads can be abused and are very harmful to the community. We also don't feel that publicly calling out or accusing others by name on our forums is in spirit of the game or our community. If you genuinely believe someone has violated our Terms of Service, you should report them in-game via the support interface — do not bring the situation onto the official ESO community forums.
We ask that everyone keep discussion respectful and within the Community Rules moving forward.

My responses...1: No, they did not ask me to stop 'offering hugs', because I only ever did so once in this particular clan. 2: This was on an RP server, however, I don't believe I ever trolled or posted inappropriate things in their chats. Hopefully, this clears up your questions as well as the other poster's question, which they mentioned after you replied.

I have not had any issues with guilds. My experience is largely with trading guilds, where by far the most common reason for players to get booted was inactivity. Second most common was failure to meet minimums, but usually that slid for a while because enough people just went inactive. The third, rare but it happened, was people who decided to argue about our clearly stated rules i.e. don't get snotty when an officer reminds you not to interrupt the guild auction

My PVP guild, however, had pretty stringent but clearly stated expectations for how active we were, the rules we followed in Cyrodiil, and treating each other with respect. I saw a number of players who thought they could break those rules get booted, especially when they compounded their error by arguing with the guild leaders about it. I.e. when the guild master sees you playing cross-faction when you agreed to play EP, you don't get snotty about it.

I cannot speak to you or what you may have done or been perceived to do. I don't know you or these guilds from Adam.

But I will suggest that if it's happening three times without good guild experiences to balance it out, then you might want to reevaluate your own behavior from an outside perspective.

That may mean looking for guilds that set clearly stated expectations you understand, can meet, and feel comfortable getting answers and taking suggestions from the guild leadership...with the understanding that this is a game and guild leaders are also players. It's not their job to manage your behavior or give you unlimited chances.

So how many guilds have you been removed from?
I ask because of the old adage 'fool me once, shame on you... etc' and you seem to imply it is multiple guilds.

The personality of a Guild Leader is usually different from a player - the leader is going to be more organised, more methodical and ultimately more controlling about how they want things to be. This has to occur because Autocratic will be more effective in a system with high risk low rewards to allowing freedoms, as well as higher chance of players lacking cultural and societal ideologies.
Guilds that claim to be 'Laissez-faire' style leadership will often be smaller; not necessarily because they are less organised, but because they are less equipped to deal with outliers of personality types that clash with the majority. Fringe personality types are not a problem in their own right, but can cause disharmony that affects morale of the player base. And since leaving 1 guild to join another has a low opportunity cost it's not something people hestitate to do often.

The personality of a Guild Member is going to be a lot more varied - the players will be free to join, leave, join leave with minimal repercussions compared to the Guild Leader. They still share a desire to control their environment, but have to do so through other means - some of which can be abrasive to others (a player who, for example, loves fishing but hates trials might get annoyed that nobody wants to organise fishing events in guild and call out the leaders for not offering a 'fair' system.)

When it comes to deciding if a guild is right for you, understand that no guild is right for you that you haven't created yourself. All you can hope is to find a guild that accepts you for who you are and what you do and is close enough to your ideal scenario (maybe one that organizes said fishing events weekly even if it has trials daily).

I appreciate you are unable to see why you caused the issues with the hedgemony but I would definitely not blame yourself for it, though I would accept that is it more likely something you did if it happened more than once. Look within yourself to decide what you want out of a guild, then try to find a guild where that is their raisin d'etre. Consider if the problems are you struggle to cope with a large number of people, with a fraternity mentality or simply with lore-obssessed individuals and use the guild finder to score a place you can call home.

Maybe you'll decide nowhere shares your vision closely enough and you need to craft your own guild that allows hugs 24/7 (I'm sure it'd get members quickly!)

    P.S.
I noticed your quirky style of writing and can believe it reflects your personality; so I used a lot of long words for the sake of it...

Ive only been in 4 guilds and theyve all been very cool, kind, supportive, constructive, and pretty good humor. I mostly just use them for the traders but enjoy most of the banter.

I think you can typically tell a lot by the guild messages and daily banter. If it’s at all toxic just bail. I’ll tell you the guilds I’m in if you’d like to try them.

I would say that it's normal to get kicked off at least once during a game life time, usually more than that.

In most cases, nobody has done anything wrong. It's more the result of a mismatch between concerned person and the guild, due to different cultures, sensibilities and such.

Based on my experience, the main reasons for kicking off members are:
    - Upon intention, the person doesn't adhere to guild rules.
    - Upon intention, the person is trolling.
    - Upon intention, the person has caused an incident and hurt others.
    - Upon intention, the person keeps doing that for what he has been warned about several times.
All other cases - on my opinion - can be handled without a kick.

So, in conclusion, even if it can seem boring, when you join a new guild, read its description and rules fully to be sure that it's OK for you. Because if not, you will not feel well once there. Of course, even if you like rules and description, there is no certainty it will work, but at least you start with in an environment matching for you. :)

Most guilds have rules of some type or another in order to attract like-minded players. Disregarding them will get you booted, so it is pretty important to at least know what they are. I know of one that requires you join Discord, which while some may think is trivial and optional, the GM will boot you if you don't join. Trade guilds have sales or donation quota's, most RP guilds I have come across are fairly strict in what is allowed and how/what you RP, as they have a theme, etc, etc, etc.

Then there is ZOS, which counts members as inactive if they have not logged in for two weeks, and the guild membership on the guild finder only reflects "active members". Most GM's have realized that to fill out your ranks with like-minded players, you need to keep over 350-400 active members at all times, as most players looking for a guild, look at the active member number, and if it is low, they pass on the guild. So what happens is, players who are offline for 2 weeks or more, run the risk of getting booted, for doing nothing more than not logging in. Most guilds do post their inactivity period though, so reading the MOTD or their rules on Discord if they have one, helps.

Having been a GM, I find it easier to assume that a new member read the MOTD as instructed, which points them to our rules on Discord, and if the member doesn't follow those rules, I feel no need to inform them as to why they were booted. I am quite sure many of the folks I have booted felt exactly like you, but there was in fact a reason, and our rules & requirements are pretty light.

I’ve never been removed from any guilds. But I suppose one person’s toxic is another person’s treat.

As always, there are two sides to every story. We would be remiss to make any judgements without hearing the whole tale.

Surely I was kicked from a guild, it was a trading guild and I missed to pay the taxes for some weeks. So that should be normal.

But on social or raid guilds I was never kicked, I left by myself when I wasn't interestet anymore or strange people were in it.

If you find yourself constantly being removed from guilds...

It might not be the guilds.

There's an old saying for that.

Some guilds are good, some are bad, and this could well be the case here, but either you are really unlucky, or there is something you are doing wrong.

Reading between the lines, it sound like you are trying too hard to fit in, and, I guess, are becoming an annoyance to people who are already busy attempting to run a guild and manage multiple people and situations.

I've been trying to establish a good standing within a few of the many player-made guilds one can join in the game. Unfortunately, most of the would-be 'leaders' of those guilds ended up dropping their ban hammers down onto my virtual head

This, right here, raises red flags for me. Join, and do your thing. If you do it well enough people get to know you. Everything else is superfluous.

The only guild I was kicked from was a mostly Australian guild. I am in Colorado. They were a trial guild and had a minimum number of events you had to join. When I joined the guild our schedules matched fairly well. Then the US sprung forward and the events were happening to late for me to join. I was kicked for not participating in enough guild events. I knew it was going to happen though and the guild big cheese is still on my friends list. No hard feelings either way.

If you got banned from 3 guilds, especially if they are different in scope and goals, I might start thinking your attitude or disregard of rules might have been the problem, not megalomaniacal guild leaders.

I've been a part of a great many guilds in my time playing ESO and, in addition to the in-game guilds, many multitudes of Discord servers without joining their in-game guilds. I've never been kicked from any of them. I often prune how many Discord servers I'm in. There was one PvP guild that reminded me about inactivity for which I told them I would step away from the guild and Discord to make space for someone more active. I have never been kicked from a guild.

I don't know what to say. I'm not a fan of jumping to conclusions without hearing both sides of a story, and we've only heard one (and one post edited by a moderator for naming and shaming; just pointing out that it's not a good look so far as reading and obeying the rules are concerned). If there's one thing I've learned in all my time playing, it is that there is a lot of drama within certain parts of the community. A lot of he said, she said. Some people are drama magnets while simultaneously being oblivious to it.

Maybe you're incredibly unlucky and you're simply not finding the right guild. Maybe those guilds were particularly toxic or drama-prone. Maybe there's more to the story than the one side we're seeing. Who knows.

One thing I would say, though, is that any online disagreements you have with other players/guilds should be dealt with away from the forums. Creating a topic about it in a public setting only serves to stir the drama-pot and make a name for yourself (whatever the reason for being kicked, just or injust, has now been amplified by making it a public spectacle).

I'm still in one guild that I joined in 2019. I drop the game every 3-6 months for 3-6 months, but that guild still didn't kick me off.
They are not a huge guild though. But they always keep the same trader all the time, one of those in wildlands outside big cities. They have weekly trade requirements and such and when I play the game I usually trade fine, but hey, I'm offline for several months... They seems to treat me as someone exceptional. :)
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

    Sorta.

Long story short I played on console and was a member in an alliance capital trading guild with a lifetime membership back when those were purchasable. I eventually went on hiatus and naturally when I returned I found that I had been booted as expected.

However when I tried contacting one of their officers to see if I could be reinstated they said my grandfathered lifetime membership was null and void and because of size limits I would have to be put in one of their overflow guilds.
