I too don't understand the obsession with Battlemage, given that it's already in the game. You just have to spec for it.

I also don't understand the obsession with a new class (or race for that matter) in the first place. It's not like there aren't a lot of options already.

As many people have said, I'd love to see the Martial Arts Monk type class.

But then what skill lines would they have?

Alteration for a tanky skill line - with skills like dragonskin
For Stam DPS maybe an unarmed skill line.
For Mag DPS - Maybe a Devine skill line that could bring damage (or would that be too close to the Templar?). Or maybe even a Deadra worshiping skill line for a more shady monk playstyle that could provide damage
For a Healer - You could have a Devine worshiping skill line that could provide healing and support.

The only obvious problems I can think of this are

Unarmed: How do you balance this with weapons, that improve and offer improving Crit and Penetration advantages? What then becomes the point of getting better weapons or crafting?
Alteration: The same as unarmed: How do you balance this with people who have armor and sets with specific advantages?

Maybe substitute unarmed with the ability to summon weapons...

Generally I think a class needs to have

3 unique skill lines that are distinctly different from what already exists
a way to answer to Tanks / Healers / SDPS / MDPS
a way to balance with everything else.

Already have them, they are called warden.

I think there is old interview from the creators where they say what they think of the classes like
    Templar: stam=paladin, mag=cleric
    Warden: stam=ranger, mag=druid
    Sorc: stam=spellsword, mag wizard
    And so on

So you want ZOS to add.... a bunch of long dead races that no longer exist in the world of Tamriel... and snow elves.

Yea I'm absolutely certain ZOS is going to add the long dead ancient Dwemer and Ayleid to the game.

If we were getting a new Class it would have been datamined or revealed by now. ZOS is still struggling with balancing the current Classes, and given the fact that they're supposedly reworking base code starting this year, I can't imagine they'd go through adding a new Class any time soon. On top of that, if they're going to release a new Class, they'd need to increase the character limit for the people who are already at 18, and iirc it's been said that performance issues are preventing them from doing that atm.

Sadly they arent necessarily looking to balance as a key selling point for new content is to release new meta or op gear.

i think the main form of magic that hasn't really been incorporated into a class skill line is Alteration, which has often revolved around waterwalking spells, waterbreathing, shielding, opening locks, defensive shields, levitation and making enemies slower.

do we have spells with effects like these in eso? yeah obviously, but i don't think we have any skill lines, class or otherwise that really tie into the idea of a character that can manipulate physical space around them the way i picture an alterationist would

i picture a class that heavily revolves around debuffs, snares, CC effects and team support

i feel like i've just triggered some kind of defensive reaction in pvp players that may be reading this

can the game even handle more classes because of the limitations set by ps4 and xbox one?

that being said a dwarven gadgets based class could work, it would most likely have no magic and be all crafted things... the batman class!

Unarmed could be bracelets that go in the weapons slots. That takes care of needing something in those slots for your set bonuses. They could create a new skill line with them or give them the duel wield line with a unique attribute. I suppose that might work with alteration also? Maybe have an orb that acts like a stave? The orb could make sense for ranged builds. Powders might also be fun. Blow a powder into the face of your enemy to debuff them and use a bit of dust on yourself for a shield or buff. They could also have little magic marbles to throw that do different things?
I'm thinking we would probably be disappointed with the animation on attacks? Getting something like what was going on in Big Trouble In Little China would look cool but would probably be to slow compared to other animations. I'm happy with the classes we have but I think there is a way they could do a martial arts style without having to go to nuts with changes.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

The lower class: The Extremely ESO impoverished who cant even afford the mats to do their daily writs. They who wade through the most obscure nodes of forgotten DLC zones for a chance at enough materials to upgrade their new gear which will then be out of meta in mere weeks. They who pawn their hard earned precious chromium for enough potions to make it through the daily dungeons, hoping for that lottery drop that will let them escape their situation. Gambling their time away for a chance that will never come. And those few that are lucky will simply be beaten back down by the price hikes and guild dues that eat their coins. Or perhaps even gambling away their briefly attained fortunes on the newest season of Crates....

That is the the class that is coming.
(This is just a joke. ESO should be fine right? We're all okay?)

    Some ideas for monks:
    • Each class skill line is a particular martial art tradition. We have a reasonable amount of lore about some of these.
    • Your weapons are still equipped, but there's a toggle ability that changes your light and heavy attacks into unarmed ones, as in some ultimates. There may need to be one of these for each skill.
    • Khajiit are noted to traditionally use small thrown weapons. That could cover some ranged abilities. Throwing stars are more Akaviri, so they'd better fit dragonknights, but they can have one class and bit of a new one, perhaps as part of a Dark Elven martial art.
    • The following people are said to study unarmed combat in TES: Khajiiti adepts, Dissident Priests, the Mages Guild and criminals who don't want to kill people. I don't think Dissident Priests are around yet, but TESIII also had monks who taught the skills in the orthodox Tribunal Temple, the Morag Tong, the Imperial Cult (although its philosophies are seen as incompatible with Imperial/Western culture) and Houses Telvanni and Hlaalu.
    • If we can get new animations at all, we might as well get animations that are so acrobatic that they put older TES game monks to shame. Gap closers could use flying kicks or somersaults and so forth.
    • Simple "combos" could be a defining feature of the class, which is to say that class skill would change based previous actions, to make rotations feel just a little like a beat em up game. This is already a feature of existing skills, but I suggest making it a little more common or using sequences of three different moves using the same skill.
    • The overall strengths of the class could be in debuffs, mobility, evasion and close range combat. Maybe critical attacks so that it has some DPS. I don't know what to do with healing.

I could be wrong but it sounds like an excuse. How do they add so many fancy new animations to new zone NPCs every patch? What about third morphs? New skill tree for existing classes?

I feel that they could do it if they wanted to but are not interested in doing so. They want to put out Antiquities, Companions, Card Games, etc.

If they made a post on the forums for once that went into detail about the situation it would be a different story.

I think a new class wouldn't achieve much. The existing players who only play for new would still leave after 3 months, while things like the Card game will gather new players who'll have enough content in game to stay for 12 - 18 months.

Adding new things wont grow the playerbase because those people already staying for 'new' will still not stay and that's bad for people who are not them.
