Powdered Mother of Pearl

So, got that food recipe from Artaeum fishing and went to farm some pearls by closing geysers -- 15 geysers later and not a single mother of pearl.. and the recipe requires 5! Am I missing something?

While geysers and giant clams are nominally sources for this, it's very time consuming. The vast majority of the pmop I have came from Jubilee boxes, and it's not common enough for me to use it in food I use regularly. I'm told the imperial city alchemy satchels (purchased with tel var) can include them also. They do come in the regular award boxes for daily alchemy writs, but only very rarely.

Thank you. Basically I better forget about the Artaeum Takeaway Broth as a daily food.

I would plan on dubious camoran throne as the daily, and use atb for special situations where it might be the edge you need, unless your budget allows you to buy a lot of it.

Sorry but I think it's just bad rng.

PMP is a common drop in shell troves from completing Abyssal Geysers.
It can also be found in giant clams or in a Pyandonean Bottle you find while fishing.

I remember reading somewhere that the drop rate for Pyandonean motifs and stuff like that (I assume mat drops from geysers too) were increased by the number of achievements in the zone.

That being said, you can still complete a geyser and get nothing notable on occasion.

I run down the Summerset coast once or twice a day to find clams and have enough to sustain me through 4 or 5 trials a week (with max provisioning to get 4 portions)

If you are farming giant clams here is a tip: get the keen eye passive, and farm for them at night, when the glow from the keen eye will be most visible. The clams are easy to miss among the rocks, so having keen eye helps, but during the day because the beaches are so bright, sometimes you can miss seeing the glow too.

Wait, is the Artaeum food really going to help with geysers? It’s for fishing. I know it works there.

EDIT: maybe I misread, and you are just looking for sources of powdered mother of pearl at the geysers

Pickled fish bowl uses clam gall and is the food that helps with fishing.
Artaeum takeaway broth is a stamina regeneration food, like dubious camoran throne, but with added health recovery. The stamina equivalent to clockwork citrus filet.
Both recipes come from Artaeum fishing.

I actually never use this food not in trials or anywhere since Lava-foot is super cheap and has more stamina regen. If your getting hit that hard as a stamina dps you might need to consider another option all together. Hybridization allowed me as a warden to switch out one or two stam skills for mag ones and often I don't notice even running out of food for the first time ever whereas before it stopped me in my tracks. Now if I need health (soloing) I'll use sugarskulls which are also cheap.

Anyway, right now during the event you can find this ingredient for cheaper than I've ever seen it since many people are doing the dailies again in Summerset. I stocked up on it just to make the broth for others or to sell. I found a whole bunch for like 2-3k each at traders. TTC is lagging so you will have to go out and get some fresh air. I suggest visiting Graht (just because its beautiful) and then checking those traders. Right now you can actually make a decent profit selling the broth.

These can also be farmed via pyandonean bottles caught while fishing in Summerset, and you can then sell the roe and Pyandonean motifs on traders and exchange that gold for more pearl and clam. Better yield than trying to farm them open world IME.

Better still is just farm a good mat route anywhere with lots of alchemy and furnishing mat nodes, sell and buy the pearl and clam you need. Furnishing mats from node farming are very high on PC NA atm, and alchemy mats nearly as lucrative to farm. When the new chapter drops in 5 weeks, furnishing mats will likely go even higher for a time.

Very cool! Any advice for fishing those, should I be using the fishing buff food and/or be in a group? I believe there's also cp for that, haven't fished much.

The purple Artaeum fish food and the CP slottables really help for catching the trophy fish for the Master Angler achievement, but I don’t know if they help with things like the Pyandonean bottles.

I was also wondering a while back if you need the fish food for getting things from fishing like the coral furnishings. Does anybody know?

I am REALLY curious about this. Not many people fish so it's extremely difficult to find any credible info on the topic. I googled hard, nothing came up, just one guy saying that the food buff does NOT increase the chance for bottles/sacks, only for rare fish. Since I also want roe (and the buff decreases the amount of white fish) then perhaps I should go without the buff. Damn it, wish we had more info.

update: after a LOT of research, it seems the food/party/CP slottable do NOT increase the chances for bottles. If anything, they may decrease it.

If that is true, then I would guess that it does not increase the chances of getting furnishing items even though they are green, blue, purple, or gold. I was just thinking that since the fish were green and blue that maybe it worked the same.

That is good news for both you and me then. We can fish for those without worrying about that awfully expensive fish food then. I guess you should turn off the CP slottables too, or in my case just don’t slot them.

Indeed! Do keep one of the slottables though, the one that decreases fish bite time. I had a good run yesterday, but I have to admit that fishing is mind-bogglingly boring, they need to rework it and give it its own skill line, maybe even throw in a fishing event where you go out with a bunch of people on a boat ala FFXIV. (the only thing I liked about that game tbh)
