Gift from CS to @names with special characters

How do we gift CS items to @names with special characters?
The latest was a Danish letter combo that I don't have on my SAE keyboard, so I had to sadly let them know they couldn't have their free gift after all.
If they're playing on the same platform as us, can't we gift to anybody using the game??
