CP Nerfs

So with the next update, the major CP stars for the warfare tree are getting nerfed to 6% increases, 10% instead of 15% for backstabber, and 8% instead of 10% for Fighting Finesse. This is probably in response to the overall power increase that came with the hybridization of skills, but it begs the question: What really is the point of CP? 10% was already, by far, much lower than the bonuses granted by the old system. With only 6%, when they eventually balance skills more (which they're bound to do), these buffs won't really do much. I feel CP 2.0 is a failure. It doesn't really do what they claimed they wanted it to do, and isn't much of a help before this nerf anyway. It's a nice small boost, but with or without the trees, the boost to overall dps isn't huge. CP doesn't need a buff, but it definitely didn't need a nerf.

It doesn't promote the build diversity they wanted, and still won't with these changes.

Exploiter CP is nice though, glad its coming back.

Personally I don't think it matters how much you nerf the stars that are actually useful. No one is going to pick a star like "does damage when you kill an enemy" to fight a boss where there are no adds to use it on, and for an effect that is less than one destro staff pulsar cast.

I think if you really want to improve engagement and diversity with other stars, you will need to make other stars more engaging and diverse.

Most of the alternatives are either niche with little to no applicable effects in raids, or just flat weapon/spell damage or resource increases.

How about stars that let you change the visual theme of spell effects? Or stars that cause a percent of the magicka cost of skills to cost stamina instead or vice versa?

This exactly. They need to add fun effects that do something interesting. % chance to cause a magical bolt to strike an enemy you hit. A chance to cause the enemy you're attacking to turn into a sweetroll (like that one set that lets you eat the sweetroll for a random buff) and if the enemy is a player or boss, it instead gives them a debuff. I dunno, they have a lot of options they can do that aren't just increase damage by %, but aren't as useless as the enemy explodes dealing radial damage. They just decided everything in the tree needs to be weak, and therefore their design philosophy is super limited.

Yup. I 100% agree. I made a thread on this as well and agree that at this point cp is kinda feeling a bit pointless especially if they are just going to keep nerfing the points in the trees.

I just saw your post and posted my suggestions there. I'll copy-pasta what I said there:
    What they should do:
    1. Buff the bad stars that no one uses until they become relevant, or change them to make them relevant.
    2. Make more unique stars that do weird or fun things. For example, a Warfare star that causes a bolt of energy or a crow from misrule or something to leap out and attack an enemy with a % chance proc dealing x damage, or a Craft star that causes an enemy that dies to dance in place before dying. Purely fun with the Craft star, since they can't give mechanical benefits for some reason.
    3. Make the stars that give flat bonuses passive while leaving them nerfed. We know they claimed that the reason for them being slotted was because it effected the server stability, but that's complete garbage for a reason. If they're going to be such low %s, make them passive and give us new interesting stars rather than ones that are just the old CP system but worse.
    4. Make it so when you bar swap, you also bar swap your CP stars. I mean they way they are designed is similar to our skills, and if they want us to experiment, the best way to do that is to give us the option to bar swap our cp stars. This obviously only works when they do 1-3, and add a bunch new fun stars.
    5. This is optional, but why not combine the trees a bit? They are skill trees, so a branch could reach and share the Warfare+Craft or Warfare+Fitness. This could open up some really unique abilities that are somewhat shared between the trees.
