What's next after High Isle?

High Isle is the upcoming chapter for ESO in 2022. It is going to focus on the Bretons, and for the first time in The Elder Scrolls history we will explore a brand new never seen before location.
But what's next for ESO? Where do you think, or where do you hope the next expansion will take place?

My wish is that it also be somewhere (like High Isle) that had never been in an ES game before. Problem: being a prequel, it's all bound by lore. For example, you can't invade Akavir, since that wasn't done until the 3rd Era.

So I guess it'll have to be a trip through the Crystal Tower to that strange city with the skyscrapers.

The only races that haven't had an associated significant expansion yet are the Wood Elves and the Redguards. It would make sense that either of them would get some love. And because most (if not all) of Valenwood has been covered, and I don't think that they would explore certain magical mysteries like Falinesti, I'm leaning toward unexplored Hammerfell territory.

I don't think they will look at other continents / territories nor other races outside of Tamriel. Nor would they explore certain mysteries that give the game its magic (I'm looking at you, Dwarves).

It can't be the first time in TES history we saw a new location, they were all new once. But I know what you mean, it's unusual for ESO to feature a location which hasn't been in a previous game, especially if you count Arena. (Arena obviously counts as a TES game but many of the locations don't reflect the lore - even as it was at the time the game was created - due to graphics limitations, so I don't always consider it an accurate representation of the locations.) I'm looking forward to High Isles and I'd like it to be the start of a continuing trend of adding new locations, or ones not seen since Arena.

I'm not sure where I expect us to go next, so I voted for where I'd like to go. I was disappointed that Tenmar was missed out of the Elseweyr release and I'd like to see it.

I think the slice which is missing from the Elseweyr maps might be too small for an expansion, but there's quite a few patches like that around Tamriel and I think it could be interesting to have an expansion which features multiple smaller maps instead of just 1, with a story which takes us around all of them. That could also fit with their plan to deal with smaller scale stories too, a political intrigue or small scale quest story could easily involve the player character travelling around many different locations to complete their quest.

As long as we're not looking for pieces of the Staff of Chaos, which I think is the only thing from TES 1-5 they haven't rehashed in ESO.

    1. The Battlespire... co-op and pvp mode (just like the game had). 20th anniversary is this Nov. 30th.
    2. Rest of Mundas/Aetherius/Planes of Oblivion.

It's 2022 and Battlespire is still my number 1 wish, though I've given it some more thought. Q4 2022 will be it's 25th Anniversary, so maybe for the Q3 dungeon DLC? Yes, I'm sure the Q3 dungeons are already in the works, but I can dream. Creating Battlespire as a group dungeon but with a PvP element like two or three teams competing to complete it would be a lot fun I think. Kind of a combination group dungeon and battleground area.

I had a similar idea for a dungeon/battleground area in Cloud Ruler Temple way back as well, where two or three teams raced to close the anchor there. Each team would have a separate path, but the paths would cross every so often. Your team could decide whether to lay an ambush, or move on and try to get ahead.

Both ideas actually pre-dated the existence of Battlegrounds, so should be even more possible now no? After Battlegrounds I posted this.

Each Chapter has been a centered around a race so far, ones left are Bosmer and Redguard.

The city of Falinesti is my bet, and whatever part of oblivion it ended up in.

Bosmer and Redguard are still missing their big chapter. Both require some love and I'm hoping for bosmer.

I also wish for a proper Nibenay chapter but that's unlikely. It would probably be disappointing anyway just like Leyawiin and imperials in Blackwood.

I think they love otherworldly stories. This year's story will be down to earth so next year will be far out. I bet Sheogorath is there too. With lots of Bosmer. Lots and lots of Bosmer from a missing tribe who fell through an oblivion gate last year. Never mind, the vestige will rescue them.

They'll be so grateful they will be giving out robotic spider legs (a different colour from this year though).

I doubt it will be Hammerfell because of TES6 but it would make the most sense. I think it will be the Western Reach personally. Maybe parts of Yokuda would make sense to keep with the maritime theme.

Tenmar would be sweet. The views from Sunspire are AMAZING and I love the Khajiit theme.

I really hope they don't do another plane of Oblivion. It's so dull and such a cop out instead of making good Nirn content. I really really hope it won't be. I like the design of Fargrave but I just don't like the lore. I don't like what they did with Deadlands either.

Realistic choice would be Hammerfell, since there's SO MUCH of it left open on the game map, and the Redguard are due some content.

Personal choice would be Whiterun Hold. I've been really missing Skyrim and West Skyrim made me super nostalgic. Whiterun Hold and Falkreath Hold are the prettiest locations in Skyrim.

Seriously tho, I'd love to see them do something with a totally diff realm. Perhaps getting us into the Celestial realms?
Or something closer to a primordial plane where everything else grew from? I'm not the biggest lore nerd so IDK if that's feasible.

We have Oblivion and all it's many flavours but so much of it doesn't feel unique like I'd expect.
Like here's an area with lava, and over there, MORE LAVA!
And a giant naga-snake-thing surfing across the lava.
Pointy rocks. Many many pointy rocks (I've gone thru WAY too many pairs of boots and sandals by now TYVM)

However none of it gave me that "Whoa, this is def NOT Nirn." feeling, so it ends up feeling more like Vvardenfell with less trees.

I'm imagining a realm where the normal laws of physics get thrown out the window and few things work the way the Nirn races understand.
Areas with reversed gravity, random elemental effects, pockets of null magic where spells and enchants will not work, corrosive fog that degrades your armour, etc.

There have been attempts made I feel.
Coldharbour isn't bad. You def have to watch your step in places. But TBH I was a bit bummed when nothing exciting or odd happened the first time I stepped into a plasm pool. It really looks like something that would melt your shoes or change your skin colour like you'd just spilled blue toilet cleaner on yourself.

Many sections of Craglorn are fun, Spellscar comes to mind, one of the more awesome areas!

While Fargrave didn't have any wonky physics it did feel different from Nirn cities, I liked that.
Not quite sure why I get that feeling there bcuz there aren't any new strange creatures or anything there. But it's design just LOOKS like an otherworldly city where demi-gods and goddesses would do their weekly shopping. Very cool.

And, maybe they are a small thing, but I love the Deadlands mini-wind spouts that randomly appear in some places. They're largely harmless and I've wasted quite a bit of time jumping into them :D Small things like that are just scratching the surface of what I'd love to see. You expect it to just be more harmless eye candy and suddenly "hoooly heck I'm in the air!"

I think the design\art teams can def pull it off. There are certainly things I stumble across while zone exploring that made me feel like I was in a fantasy game and not a poke-this-til-it-dies-take-its-stuff game.

Technical limitations may also be a thing too, with some of the ideas I have IDK if the engine is capable of executing it properly. The Celestial crates had some very cool Crown items with FX similar to what I have in mind.

I know High Isle is going to be taking us back to a more, well lets face it, a story not filled with Daedra and lava. I also think I've endured enough Daedra insults and sarcasm for 10 lifetimes. (ISTG if Lyranth shows up I am ignoring her.)
So I am really looking forward to High Isle. Political intrigue and plot-twist hopes are high :)

But looking to the future is what the thread is about and those are my thoughts.

(I agree with @ZOS_Kevin tho, like sheesh we haven't even gotten to the High Isle launch yet wth guys)

I hope for more black marsh... Murkmire was awesome (quality over quantity). I just hope that one day Argonians (just like Khajiits) will have a full year long story....

... But the reality is that we will get Redguard content, then Wood Elf content... then Imperial content, then again Khajiit content... and Dark Elf content... Argonians will be neglected forever. :disappointed:

Can people ask what's next once we actually have the thing they are wanting to find out what is after.

If your talking about the DLC I would assume they probably have another part of the High Isles island chain that will serve as the DLC location, since most of the main land DC area is filled in on the world map.

As for the next chapter location doubt they would center another Chapter on a place in Skyrim at this point. Other than that I don't know the Elderscrolls world map well enough to point out an interesting place that is likely to be used.

I'd love more Morrowind, whether its Telvannis or the Sheogorad region (Or maybe they'll finally fix the map and do western Morrowind, after putting Blacklight where it belongs and moving Bleakrock somewhere else...), but its more likely to either be more Hammerfell or Cyrodiil/County Skingrad.

I don't remember where the video is (it might part of a Twitch stream from January), but I think an art lead said that we'd be visiting the Systres through the year. So maybe one or two smaller islands, which presumably differ from High Isle and Amenos.
