We are currently investigating issues some players are having logging into the European PC/Mac megaserver. We will update as new information becomes available.

How would you rate ESO overall?

I honestly can't give it more than 3/10, there are just too many issues, things that have been wrong since Beta and are still wrong. Lack of communication, poor support, not to mention serious grouping problems.
My character getting locked for 3 days for no reason whatsoever.
To be honest I would have cancelled if there were any other new games coming out and I hadn't already spent a lot of money getting the Imperial Edition for three of us. I feel pretty negative about the game at the moment. :\

    As an MMO: 4/10
As a single player with friends hybrid: 7/10
[edit: Graphics & Lore: 10/10 for the scale of the game]

    - Inability to persistently play with a friend in the game world, regardless of each player's quest progress [this removes it from MMO status; mashing it into some strange mutant version of a single player & co-op RPG, but still doesn't 'feel' like an open world MMO]

    - Inability to play with friends unless you PAY MORE to have access to imperials, then you can play any class/race combo you want. However, if they are in a different faction, never mind playing with them on that character. If PvP is confined to Cyrodiil, then why in the poo-perfect-hell can't a Daggerfall player travel to a Dominion city so they can play with their friends @ lower levels? THIS IS AN MMO, RIGHT??? You're really going to split the world into 4 segregated sectors? Thats factionist, bro!

    - No player housing or guild housing @ launch. [Really? This is ELDER SCROLLS, there has been a shack or hut or CASTLE to put your hard-fought plunder in, since the 90s!!!! WTF devs!]

    - PvP concept brilliant. Execution? Broken. So, you thought that being lvl 10 meant you could pvp... oops! Should have mentioned your gonna be shoulder to shoulder with Vet10 players who have access to more abilities than you have bag-slots. Get out there and be a lure, noob! Take ten deaths for the greater good! I could go on for days about how flawed the PvP is right now, but I'm fairly confident i'd be preaching to the choir.

    - No centralized auction house; prices fluctuate horrifically daily due to players joining or leaving trading guilds.

    - LvL 1 upgrade reagents are the exact same as v10 [honing stone; tempering alloy, etc]. This in itself is half the issue with the bots; They never need to leave a lvl 10 area if they can farm for materials and sell them back to players to get the gold they will eventually just sell back to players.[A totally broken mechanic here] The economy will eventually catch up, and either reagents prices will bottom out, or the entire market will flat-line, which is what the devs intended to avoid by forcing players to use guild stores, instead of an auction house.

There IS room for potential, I'm just wondering if the game will become what it SHOULD be, before.. or AFTER Zenimax is forced to go f2p.

ask people right now how they like the game, the after-maintenance-lag is horrendous.

couple that with very long maintenance periods 2-3 days per week. yes they need to fix things but it is really affecting the available playtime for people and it just seems like there is always more and more to fix. just too many problems. with current game lack of stability 6/10.

a perfectly running game in a few months? maybe 8/10. the combat is better than tab target. its what I would expect from TES series. however, its a bit behind still versus mmorpg titles that have gone farther with action combat. ie tera, warframe, blade and soul, and others. so much can be done nowadays with graphics and combat mechanics that while its not as visceral, at least I can pitch this game to people saying at least its not full-on tab target.

has good but laborious crafting. plenty of hours of gameplay if maybe too much once you consider rushers did 50 in 3 days or so. so that's 9 days in game for vr10 without exploits? (took me 6 days played for vr1) plenty of gameplay. story quests are better than basic garbage quests. environments are pretty good though slightly linear. another above average TES game imo.

forgot to mention: all the people we know who are playing titanfall and are laughing at the few of our group who are paying subs for eso. they are mocking us due to the prospect of having both a sub fee AND possibly having to buy DLC packs for future content. that's pushing people away and clearly a -1.

You have my sympathy, I really feel bad for you, support sucks.
It's issues like yours that will ultimately make people give up and walk away, it's bad enough you can't play your character, but the total lack of care from support is beyond belief. Not to mention they seem unable to read...
My biggest gripe is grouping, it's just such a frustrating experience, my husband and I have given up trying to group up with our son because we just can't keep in phase with each other (literally!) it's driving us all crazy.

    I too am enjoying the game. The bits I don't much like are;

    - Guilds required if you want to buy / sell something - (a) it's a rip-off, (b) if your guild is small you're scuppered and (c) did I mention it's a rip-off?
    - Too few skill slots in my opinion...and it's just an opinion.
    - if they want us to police the bots for them then they should make it easier for us to report players. e-mails and chat are fine, but reporting a bot (or bots) right in front of you is harder to do.

I generally play solo, so not really interested in pvp, dungeons or end-content, so can't comment on their adequacy or otherwise.
  • Crazysam87
I'll try to make my review as detailed as possible using all the aspects to give a score that best represents the game!

    1: Graphics
Interesting details and the environments are rich, the quality is very good, but from what i've seen there is one MMO with even better graphics. Right now it is looking awesome, but the "realistic" style ages very badly and in a few years it will look aweful!
    8.5/10

    2:Soundtracks
Not much to say about this aspect if not that the musics are in no way appealing and they don't immerse the player into the game and story. It is clear that very little effort was made in music creation for this game and sadly, music is as important in games as they are in movies. Epic soundtracks help the player stick to the story and the environment, but ESO does not really offers anyhing.
    4/10

    3: Playability
We have to be honest about one fact; ESO is not noob friendly and it is clear that it was not intended to be easy or anything. That said, it is fairly easy to use the interface and even tough the leveling/questing system if very classic, all classes have almost infinite ways of being built and it brings players a lot more creativity and rerolling opportunities than most MMO's. Some may argue that in the end, only a few builds will emerge, but the system is here for player to enjoy. I have to finish this section by pointing out that the combat are a bit clunky and the visual effects are not really appealing.
    8/10

    4: Lifespam
With 3 factions and a lot of different leveling paths, combined with rich classes with "infinite" builds, ESO certainly gives the players the opportunity to reroll a lot without getting bored too much. Very good for a new game. End-game content is not out yet, so I won't be taking that in consideration.
    9/10

    5: Scenario/Storyline
ESO offers much in terms of storyline with the help of rich choice-based conversation and tons of lorebooks to discover in wich more story is revealed and it is refreshing when most MMO's offer poor story and only "chain click and accept" quests. Sure it does not compare to SWTOR wich as the best system yet, but the one ESO offers is far enough!
    8/10

6:Launch(Added this one because a smooth launch is what retains players the most)
Let's be honest, ESO has is share of troubles and had a lot of game braking issues such as broken mainquests preventing players from progressing for days and a week+ in some cases, wich is not acceptable. Game was still very enjoyable, but ZOS poor decision making made an horrible "first impression" on a lot of players.
5/10 ***Note that in time all the bugs and glitches will be fixed and this section will stop hindering the score I give to the game***

Overall, ESO gives the player a lot to do with tons of different areas to level, dungeons, Epic PvP and nice story to read through, but lacks immersion from poorly designed music and very standard combat mechanics and effects. More content is already being added in a few weeks or so and it's a good news for the harcore gamers. Excellent experience even with all the major bugs and balance issues.

    7/10

A couple weeks ago, I would have said 0/10. But now that the amount of issues are going down, and I don't feel like hulk smashing my desktop every time I play. I would say 6/10. There are still a lot of frustrating bugs, and I am still not feeling the impending subscription charge after the 30-days is up.

It is fun though.. When it works properly.

    that's my biggest problem to

Bugs, glitches, bots and gold-sellers don't overly bother me. I'm patient and know they'll be fixed in time (and indeed many have been). It's long-term playability and a sense of engagement that I look for. ESO just doesn't engage me. Quest progression becomes lackluster quite quickly (with a few shining exceptions). PvP the same. The scenery, while beautiful, is rarely noteworthy and lacks the wow factor I've felt in other MMOs and TES single player games (and partly by extension exploring is a solid 'meh' as well). Crafting is OK but not that worthwhile. Etc in the same vein.

These are things I think certainly can be improved on, but at its core, the game lacks too many open world exploration options and a sense of achievement and wonder. And that, I think, will be much harder or impossible to change without a major reworking of the game and/or a change in vision by the devs.

You can polish a turd all you want.. but a turd is a turd.

"Public" dungeons went the way of the dodo back when EverQuest died. If I wanted a giant conga line of players clearing EVERY mob in EVERY dungeon so that the only challenge is FINDING something to fight? Yeah.. Fail. Epic Fail. Stupidly Epic Fail.

Taking gear damage for NOT taking damage? Idiotic decision.

YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE! ... again.. for the 10,000th game ever made! .. nothing like 2+ million "Chosen Ones" running around eh?

Every major quest FORCES you into Solo gameplay.. cause who the *** wants to play with others in an MMORPG amirite!?

A UI resembling something I saw in 1996 via Ultima Online, with about as much detail.

Subpoint to above - Nothing like a dozen mouse clicks, typing and dropdown menus JUST to report a spambot tho.. I LOVE wasted minutes of my day trying to report ONE idiot. Again.. is this 2014 or 1998? DOS was awesome...

Absolutely NO "freedom" akin to every ES game ever made. No choices, no epic decisions, no consequences. Nothing. Just do WHAT they say WHEN they say it.

No housing. No Family. No frills.

No Crime, Justice system, or punishment.

You want to see what an MMO ES game SHOULD look like? Go boot up Ultima Online T2A That's LITERALLY the best model for a REAL WORLD Persistant Elder Scrolls MMO. If they had done something w/ an updated engine/UI based on THOSE parameters.. this game would literally be off the charts insane in awesomeness.

Instead.. we get a generic MMO with no polish, point or purpose.

Actually when i began to play my first MMORPG, i coudn't stop playing a couple of months over 16 hours a day. ESO gave me this feeling so far, feeling fresh with game, even i didn't contribute in any kind of social activities yet. There are lots of things going on but mostly what i encounter on every mmo game.

I prefer to play one game only and feel loyal to it, i will stay and give my support till they favor raiders or make group content obtainable gear superior over people who choose to enjoy games smaller group activities. The only thing that can make me unsub in this game is giving raiders superior gear over others, this i just can not accept. They can get their gear killing a scripted boss, but give others equal chances the way they prefer to play. Raiders in, i am out, other than that i am having a blast...

There are only two things that really bother me:
    * Quests bugging out because of too many other ppl around - which usually and surprisingly more often than not can be fixed by simply relogging. Still, I do hate that one with passion.

    * The bank/dummy bank char dance one has to do every few hours because there is too much stuff for too less storage space; no matter how often you buy "upgrades".

    8/10.

I would rate this game to be a 8.5/10.

    Good points

    - The story. We all know that the Elder Scrolls franchise have an amazing story but I rank this game higher than Morrowind/Obliviion/Skyrim storywise.
    - Great voice dialogue in game. There are some points where the actor/actress is way too neutral but overall I feel that they have done a great job with the voice acting. Huge + for Cleese, Nighy and Stormare.
    - Class system. You can fulfill any role with any class. Want to be a sorcerer with a two handed axe and heavy armor? Whack away! Want to be a dragon knight with light armor and heal? That's perfectly fine too. The whole flexibility and design are simply great.
    - AVA. I love Cyrodiil, I love the idea of deploying siege weapons to launch an assault on a keep and then taking it over.
    - Questing variation. Not once have I felt bored with listening to the quest dialogues and I even have an addon that disables me skipping quest text.

    Bad points

    - The lack of a good user interface. You can't even see people in your guild. And the @account name showing in guild chat? That's just horrible. It doesn't make any sense at all, why wouldn't you see the character name? And you should be able to click on a player name to display his class, level and character name. Inviting guild members by right clicking on their name in guild chat should work aswell.
    - Constant Cyrodiil loading screen. I'm not happy with getting stuck in Cyrodiil loading screen just because the server is full (I still have my reserved spot, don't I?).
    - The respec costs. I don't mind the costs per say but the fact that I need to reset every single one of my skill points just because I'm not happy with a morph is ridiculous. Implement a skill tree reset and if need be, increase the cost to 200 gold per skill point or so. I do not want to reassign over 200 skill points just because of one morphed ability.

I haven't mentioned anything about bank space problem. I don't see it as a problem. No one is forcing you to be a jack-of-trades, you don't need to level up all professions and you certainly don't need to keep everything.
My character is leveling alchemy, blacksmith, woodworking, clothing and enchanter and I have constantly around 30 bank spots empty (110/140).
You can handle the bank "Issue" if you take time to clean it out with unnecessary crap.

graphics 8/10 They added so many good things, some textures need fixing, maybe and not mandatory, some more dynamic and wilder/intensive weather conditions, would be great. Also when its raining, I see no drop circles in the water, more like, when its raining inside a pond or a river or sea, there is no effect with water circles from the raindrops! hehehe

sound 7/10 The music is beautiful, but not all areas have their own soundtrack?

Questing up to lvl 49 : 10/10 its just perfect and I am one of the few that I didn't experience many buggy quests. The only quests I ve waited and got a bit frustrated, was the army of meridia, it fixed after a server maintenance. The story is beautiful and more immersive even from swtor.

questing in veteran zones 4/10 I give it 4 because the content is not related with my character faction and progression, it makes me feel not DC, the alliance I choose to be and some quests reminding me that I am soulless, even if I got my ingame soul at lvl 50. It need some tweaks there.

PVP : I havent played pvp (just a little and thats it) I love it to be open world with unlocked areas, not campaign style and there is lots of performance issues with some high end gpus.

many technical issues will also be fixed with patch 1.1 so no reason to point anything out.

Overall, VR questing and the economy bugs me allot, VR questing should be tweaked, not as it is. I also dont wish to join guilds be able to sell, that means there is no economy for me, they could give different possibilities in the economy (vendorism, guild stores, guild houses, etc) but they didnt. So without these 2 things, I would give it 9/10, but since these 2 featuers are included,

    I give it 6.5/10

Its things they can fix. Since clagron is coming, they could add the lvling for VR there instead. If they cant do that, they can tweak some quests and voice overs maybe. Also give us some vendors or some trade channels ingame. And lots of balancing and more stylish for light armor :)

am dyslexic and a very generous guy...

    suggestion and notes.

Many people complaining about the grouping phases and the luck of grouping up in quests. I dont... But you could eliminate the 90% of all these complaints, by giving us companions. Thats what swtor did and NOBODY cared about grouping in the entire story mode. Everybody cared about their companions, their needs, their gear. Because both games, are story based mmos. But what makes swtor, nobody to be bothered about grouping up? The companions.

Also there is a selection in swtor settings, allowing others to enter the story mode of other players, as guests/viewers and also help the protagonists. You could give that feature.

I'm currently not very happy with this game.

i bought it for me and my wife so i could introduce her in the sometimes fun world of MMO's and that we can play something together...

and there's the problem, honestly we're not very far in atm, but what i've seen/experienced so far is not very pleasing to me:

    the good:
    - pretty gfx for the most part, at least nice for a mmo
    - voiced quests!
    - Phasing, the part i like, the world changes and your choices do seem to have a visual impact
    - ressource gathering, quite cool, i don't need to learn a specific skill and craft a tool for it, i just gather stuff
    - I like the Crafting so far, because it's super simplified and i mostly hate all sorts of crafting in any game! (probably bad for most ppl, but good for me)
    - there is fishing!

    the not so good:
    - Phasing, yes i listed it on "the good" but the visual impact of your actions is really the only thing good about it. There is NO questing together... i'ts just like we have the same quest and are questing alongside each other. You have to solve some sort of puzzle, she has to do the puzzle by herself as well, she should take the same choice in a conversation otherwise the rest of the quest might differ a bit... was much better done in SWTOR where the choice the group leader makes is how it's going to be... and not some pseudo grouping, where if i have been 3 minutes quicker i watch her whacking things which aren't visible on my screen. Even worse, sometimes you activate something or trigger something after talking to a quest npc, my better part does the same but just gets to the conclusion screen (e.g thanks for paying, why the hell do you still talk to me?)... seems very inconsistent.
    - gear repair-cost, rate of degrading... just ridicoulus
    - broken quests... to be expected, but still very annoying especially in the starter area
    - game could use more colors
    - the UI, or rather the lack of it (luckily there is addons, but c'mon)
    - The Freedom of Class/Skill System, sounds good but for a new player it confuses them if you tell them they can be a mage in full plate armor with shield and sword or whatever... which i would say leads to quite some build-mess at some point
    - Read today that we can't do the storyline quests together, or rather she can't join me on mine and vice versa... doubt we even make it to level cap then, huge disappointment in a "story-focused" mmo
    - dmg hit feedback, probably just me, but unless you knock the sucker off his socks, there isn't much, also when i get hit (again got some addons for pretty numbers)
    - the whole controls doesn't feel very responsive, it's rather all...clumsy (EU megaserver latency issues??)
    - so far, i hate the blocking mechanics, every other game seems to have them implemented better
    - Banking? Auctionhouse? Trading in general?...
    - Character Stats? Where? (did i miss something again?)
    - No Dueling???
    - No underwater possibilities? I mean usually everyone dislikes those in any game including me, but still, if i can swim i want to be able to drown while looking for a chest somewhere under water

I give it a 4/10 so far, would give probably a 6.5/10 if I'd be playing as i usually do: solo till max level except for group dungeons and then off to raid and pvp
