Is logging in and out 500 times to farm motifs an exploit?

It is not an exploit because it has no real in-game value. The fact that people are willing to pay ridiculous prices for them, because they are impatient, is not a game mechanic. That perceived value will fade away pretty quickly. It has already started.

So so true. I saw motif books going for 2 grand early on, two days later I offered one up for that price and got some pretty nasty comments... :p

The logout / Login "tactic" is just a more convenient way to loot all the Chests/Containers... you can do the same with just running around between a few spots.

Whoever is doing it for the "normal" racial Books is insane anyways... i got about 7 of each during my normal gameplay in my Zones. Heck, i got 5 out of 1 Storyline Mission dungeon without relogging!

i admit i did the relogging game in the last VR Zone for a while, no success :) getting worthless 0gold racial Stones and cooking mats OR Lockpicks! YAY ...

had way more success getting Books (4 Daedric / no AE actually) while i quest away and loot everything on the way.

apparently they make 6 alts and cycle through them. do it for 8 hours straight.

Then it sounds to me like they need a life. They pay a good amount of money to play a game, and spend all their time "working". Why not play "Cabinet and Drawer Simulator" instead?

daedric motif = 50k-100k, barbaric/primal = 25k, ancient elf = 35k, then you get things like copper which is selling for 1k each. it adds up

Dunno why, have you *seen* the Daedric armor? It looks horrible, nothing like Skyrim or the other TES games. Complete disappointment. That the stuff made with Calcinium btw.

edit: Heres some guy that made the VR10 epic version... it's balls.

Yup, they definitely reduced the number of active containers on subsequent logins .. I don't do it endlessly but like many here I mule a lot and if a mule is in one of the main banks I'll go check the chests etc. and I've seen a marked reduction in the number that aren't empty since last Friday.

I would say everyone is or has just about done some form of exploits its in our nature I relog when me toon is full , so spread the mats like herbs to 1 runes to another etc have 5 toons for this . I probably wouldn't do this but since game lost me 40 bank slots and 10k gold to which they only replaced some of it , so they do what they like even suspend , then they cant be bothered to replace what you lost no wonder things go bump in the night

    I quite like this.

They spend their time doing this and in turn lower the price , which makes it cheaper for me to buy and saves me time since i dont need to farm this myself.

    Great teamwork.

so im still a bit confused. If i do this for 3 or 4 days to make 500k+ gold, i won't get banned? or i will, just not for a while? It seems to be the fastest way to make gold at the moment.
It's legal to grind as in killing wolfs for leather or bosses the way bots do.
do not see how this is any different, only issue is increased load on login and zone transfer system, however if you get minutes with wait time login in this will become less economical. if an problem they might add an delay if you switch between alts very many times say 20 in an hour, but this is not something we want as bank and crafting alts works much the same way and is legal.

And as other points out, racial style book has fallen a lot in price and will continue to drop as more and more players get a full set.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

If your losing money farming, your doing something wrong. Tips:

-Invest in gear that has the sturdy trait.
    Good idea

-Just craft replacement gear rather than repair.
Supid mechanic that confirms that repair costs are broken

-Become better at avoiding massive damage and dying.
    Good idea

    - Grind dungeons nude.
Another lol workaround that confirms something is wrong

    - Wear only the essentials, boots, legs, and chest, or what ever, for your set bonus. That's more than 50% reduction in stuff that will need repairs.

    Same as above

    - Wear trash gear when you grind, and replace it with trash gear you loot.

Again broken mechanic, players should not have to worry of wearing the "main" gear

    - Sell your broken gear to noobs for outrageous prices.
(Okay maybe don't do the last one.)

    LoL

On topic, I usually open the nearby containers while I'm shuffling the inventory between my characters. I 've gotten several "normal" motifs but I haven't sold any. I'm using them for my alts.

Buying will only diminish when ZOS ban buyers and there's no evidence at all they're doing it and they've had many places in which to say to do and the haven't done do.

This is really the wrong issue for anyone to be focusing on. People that pay for motifs instead of getting them themselves clearly aren't actually playing the game (all the motifs I got on my crafter were obtained by normal gameplay without intentionally resetting instances).

People who are against this are people who can't be bothered to do this, I'm one of them. But I'm not going to tell someone who enjoys doing this that they are doing something wrong. Play how you want to, its a game to be enjoyed, however you choose to.

This is not something we consider an exploit or bannable offense. Though it's working as designed, we do intend to make some improvements to the current design.

Is it an exploit? Yes. Is it easily determined from a developer side who is "guilty"? No. Just like others have pointed out - I might run through a continuous stream of logging and relogging characters for other reasons besides looting goods. Unless the devs are able to tap into our brains, I don't see why they would even bother to ban people for this.

@Musonius Please...find another game. Better yet, I will help you find another game that you can spend many hours playing while at the same time whining and bitching about how bad it is. Thanks.

Why would relogging to reset loots be an exploit. It harms nobody else. It cuts down on your travel time a bit.

There are some public dungeons with a lot of lootables and you can exit and enter to reset.

This is just using a game mechanic to do a bit of looting. If they change it then so be it. Nobody should be banned or warned for it, it was known in beta and was posted as a suggestion in forums.... login to reset ... no deleted posts on that.

The motifs will be collected by all who want them in the end, No big deal.

I would consider this an actionable behavior simply because I know how this behavior impacts the servers. Whether it's an exploit is irrelevant in my opinion because the people doing this are creating an unnecessary burden upon the login and authentication servers that could greatly impact every player's ability to enjoy the game.

    A fool and his money...

Good for you..but in three weeks, my Dunmer has found all of ONE racial motif book, and I poke into everything. EVERYTHING.

My Bosmer? Took all of four hours to get four racial motifs.

My Redguard? Got two the first day.

Needless to say, I only require one more racial motif to have a complete set on -one- character. Altmer.

Some people have the luck of the Irish, I'll say that much. All I ever get from that bank in Auridon is lockpicks and racial motif stones/materials. No books. Oh, and food ingredients/recipes.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

So I have something different. Completely hypothetical. So there's a location a friend of mine knows about where a chest spawns every couple of minutes. He parks his toon there and then, throughout the day when he's doing other things, he logs in picks the lock, loots the chest then logs back out again for a few minutes. Sometimes the chest is already looted but most of the time its' there.

He's looted that chest probably a couple hundred times.

Would that be considered an exploit?

How could farming a chest be any different than farming a node that repops in the same place every time, or a mob that repops every time? If that's what he's into, more power to him.

My main blacksmith & tailor has all of the "normal" books from opening everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. I've sold a bunch, as well as passing a bunch on to alts who are also crafting. Maybe the RNG gods like me, but I think I had them all after about 3 days into early release. The market has dropped down to about 1/3 of what it was just a couple of weeks ago. Whether that's good or bad depends on whether you're selling the motifs or buying them.

I think your 'friend' is ok in this regard. Providing nothing is being done to force the chest to reroll the loot contained inside. I'm pretty sure that was an exploit ZOS already fixed though.

However, there may be a bug that is causing the chest to respawn more quickly/more often than intended. If this is a bug, and your 'friend' knows about the bug and doesn't report it so he can continue to loot the chest over and over when it respawns, then that is an exploit.

I only just found out you could do this last night. I'm gonna give it a try for a SHORT while. I don't need money I just want to see what the styles I haven't yet found look like. I'm gonna drop the ones I already have in the Guild Bank, so if you're a member of The Mudcrab in the Dominion, feel free to grab my doubles later :) ....and let's hope I don't get banned lol
