Performance Idea: Universal Training/Clock for Mounts

The idea is relatively simple and should not affect the use/sales of Crown Store Training Books, or how the majority of folks play. Instead of every character having a rolling reset/train timer on their mounts, make it occur once per day. This can either happen with daily quest resets or with the legerdemain launder/sell resets (which occur about 4 hours earlier).

I think the every 20hr reset was cool when the game first launched, but with 100x more players and every account having up to 18 characters... those rolling clocks have to be dead weight at this point.

This is problematic when you log in much earlier than the day before. You can’t get your horse training done first thing so you go off and do some stuff and forget about it until much later. Oftentimes the time creep causes you to lose a day every so often.

Having this reset with daily quests would be preferable.

This is one of those topics that comes up every few weeks. I totally agree but I don't think ZOS ever commented on it.

The server does not have thousands upon thousands of timers ticking away at these 24/7. It just needs to save the timestamp (static) and calculate based on the on server time in the UI client. Server impact is totally insignificant.

    It certainly does.

Personally I'd rather have one single global cooldown for everything (per megaserver).

EU would reset at 00:00 UTC, resetting the weekly cooldown at the same time on Sunday.

NA would reset as it currently does: 06:00 UTC.

    Simple, consistent.

Are you sure? Because I downloaded some random addon that told me I had mounts to train for alts (that I hadnt logged into for some time).

Right now the server needs to save the timer for each and every single toon you have to the very second, tell me a system that could be even worse.

Agreed, I've always thought having an individual 20 hour timer for each character was silly, it would be nice if it just reset when the writs reset.

This. People should stop thinking that they are smarter than programmers.

how about just letting us do all of the mount upgrades at once with gold and then not have to deal with these stupid timers lol

(i know this likely wont happen because of crown riding lessons, but doesnt mean i cant complain that those are extremely overpriced and i am never buying them lol)

Any other way would totally overkill. The add on would work in the same way, only it checks its local file store when you're logged in with another character. It probably just assumes no timestamp > 20 hours, which is correct 99.99999% of the time, because as soon as you log in with that character it will update it from the server.

That is a good idea. There was a similar topic here some time ago, one day reset for other things (like cooldowns for motifs and so on) would also be nice.

Anything that resets daily should all reset at the same time every day. :|

Ya, if it would help performance , the point is I don't see them doing it cuz they still make money in the crown store on this mechanic

Changing it to a daily reset should not impact crown store training.

I would agree. Though I sometimes play to close to the reset that I would miss things. That would still be better.

Just add a riding trainer outside the crafting area in Alinor (and shut Curtaros (sp?) up) and I would be very happy with daily crafting and riding training!
