This is one of those topics that comes up every few weeks. I totally agree but I don't think ZOS ever commented on it.
The server does not have thousands upon thousands of timers ticking away at these 24/7. It just needs to save the timestamp (static) and calculate based on the on server time in the UI client. Server impact is totally insignificant.

Are you sure? Because I downloaded some random addon that told me I had mounts to train for alts (that I hadnt logged into for some time).
