Yes there are things players are upset about at the moment, yes there are things which need attention in multiple areas of the game, but those issues are not going to be fixed overnight.

So what if this is a sweetner? It doesn't do any harm, it doesn't mean they aren't trying to fix the problems people are annoyed about, and it's good for your characters.

I know people are upset and frustrated, and it's fun to have a gripe and swipe on the forums, but deary me, this is a reason for jollification of sorts, is it not?

It's not necessarily a bad thing to throw an event as an apology.

I also play Warframe, and in apology for the bad rollout of their new Nightwave series, DE will be running an alert with extra rewards and giving Playstation players boosters to make up for their inability to play for a bit. Those Devs were pretty upfront that it was an apology and compensation.

ZOS has even done that in the past, such as when they extended the Anniversary Event because PC/EU was having login queue issues.

I can only guess that ZOS may be reluctant to say "this is an apology for the Update 33 mess" because that creates a certain expectation that we'll get an Explorers Event every time something goes wrong.

An event works as part of an apology, not as a whole one. Without a communication apologizing for wrong doing its not an apology. It's an attempt to placate.

I just want to say, I really appreciate this little event!

ESO is a huge, in-depth game. When a major update gets coded in, bugs are bound to pop up. I bet ZOS wishes they could be fixed over night but the sheer size of the game precludes that from happening.

Just because ZOS doesn't post an exact agenda for, "what we are doing today" does not mean they are not hard at work trying to fix the latest bugs.

No matter the reason for this event, I am going to enjoy it while it lasts. The choice is YOURS if you will too.

Yes, new UD's and new coding will sometimes cause a few bugs, but this is bigger than that and with the continued silence from ZoS, this just feels like a weak attempt to "pacify the masses".

I looked at your join date on the forums, I may be presuming too much but I think you may be a fairly recent starter of the game?

For players that have been here since the beginning mostly this update is horrible!

I see it all to often in my guilds, new players wanting everything immediately...... maybe those players just got their wish, however the long term player base just got screwed!! :/

    I apologise <3

However the explorer event has absolutely no interest to me......

I'm sulking because AWA has impacted my long term continuing enjoyment of the game, I actually have spent today looking for an acceptable new MMO that might suit me. If you knew me you would realise how massive a situation that is for me! :/

Edit:- ZoS can no longer presume there are no other decent options out there

Since the problem people were having with skyshards seems to have been due to map add-ons which were looking at the achievements, and the undiscovered/uncollected skyshards were working perfectly for me on day 1 of the update because I don't use add-ons, it strikes me that one could easily flip your criticism around-- that the add-on programmers had 6 weeks when they could have been getting their add-ons ready for the update instead of waiting until after the update went live to worry about fixing things on their end. I mean, this certainly wasn' the first time add-ons have needed to be fixed after a major update, and it certainly won't be the last, so what makes this time any different than other times?

And to be absolutely clear, I never asked for AWAs, and I have never liked them in Skyrim or other games, because I'd rather be able to start a new character with a completely clean slate. But AWAs have never stopped me from playing Skyrim again on a new character, and so far they haven't hindered me at all from doing quests, collecting skyshards, etc. on my alt characters even though I'd already done those things on my main. As much as I didn't ask for this update, I personally think that it's gone smoother than I had expected-- for me, anyway, since I don't use add-ons.

I've been booted several times in the past hour, and find it impossible to zone without crashing or its taking so long I forget I am playing. If I am not alone, I really don't see the point in adding an event while people cannot access the game. It only frustrates me more now that I am missing out.

If performance continues to persist through the weekend, will the event be extended?

It is difficult to be not skeptical, but giving them the benefit of the doubt, even if the event is done in goodwill, I would much rather have communication about the bugs that came with AwA and assurances that they will be looked into, addressed, acknowledged<--pick any of these. That would placate me far more than a surprise event, one which I'm not playing because I still can't bring myself to log into my characters. I've already dabbled in another MMO that I've played previously, and I'm still on PTS because whatever I do there is not permanent and somehow that feels safer to me right now.

The Explorers Event is a pretty poor excuse for an apology. As a veteran player there is really nothing in the event I don't already have more than enough of. If ZOS really wants to show contrition for Update 33 and AwA they need to step up and offer something more substantial. Better yet use some of that promised improved communications to apologize for the mess they've created.

This is the best kind of event, just do what you like and get more rewards, no need to do same quests every day and watch tickets to not overflow or clean up event trash constantly from you inventory.
Except if you like PvP. Then you are not getting more rewards for doing what you like.

i have said what i was going to say about AwA as a whole. ZOS chose to ignore my input and take other actions. So i have made my peace with AwA. It is what it is.

my new frustration is the fact that i can't stay logged in. ESO is crashing constantly. with Addons disabled, with addons deleted, with a new download of the game. It crashes or freezes, or get stuck in infinite loading screens. On top of that the queues for the group finder is broken. up to a 2.5 hour wait before the game crashed.

Normally when the group finder breaks i go skyshard hunting and do quests but those are also not working with addons off. i have been relegated to writs and mat farming for any game play experiences i enjoy.... So YAY double node and gold event i guess.

I would have just liked something for the PvP community in this "event" - much has been promised but nothing has been given. It's a real shame, would it have hurt to add double AP? No need for extra campaigns as many players wouldn't bother with it but for those of us who PvP it would have been nice.

There is an official news post for this explorers event lol It is here: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/61765 Apparently it was put on the launcher 85 minutes ago. Im more surprised we are getting this and not the Jester's Festival, which was the event advertised in the crown store showcase.

My guess is Jester's will start exactly when this ends and when Jester's ends Jubilee will start. So this should be a big long event if you look at it that way. Long enough for the heat to die down on the forums I am guessing is the plot. ;)

To put it simply the Explorer's Event is always random and spur of the moment. They are never scheduled. But they also have a tendency to pop up after they feel that they have lost some community goodwill.

Thanks. I thought it was maybe just my cynicism in overdrive wondering if the timing of this seemed like a rather desperate attempt to entice unhappy customers back after the character implosion fiasco of u33 awa implementation.

Good to know my bs (beautiful senses!, obviously) detector is still in excellent working order.

I'm on PS5, so this hasn't affected us yet (Soon™), but when a guildmate mentioned the sudden event pop-up, I actually did laugh out loud. They wondered why the sudden, surprise event and I told them about the forums being on fire and why and that this was exactly done to try and appease angry customers/distract from the PC update launch.

Not the first time this has happened, sadly won't be the last.

No it isn't. It's a bribe to keep players playing, it always happens when an update drops that is badly worked or where there have been major issues.

It isn't an event about exploration its an apology.

PvP players are due just as much as apology as PvE players, therefore the event should feature double AP.

I'm sorry for disagreeing but the fact remains that this is a bribe.

I don't care about the fact that it has always been a PvE event in the past. That doesn't mean it always has to be a PvE event in the future. If its aimed at appeasing players it should aim to appease all players, not just a subset of them.

It's time to stop thinking in terms of PvE or PvP but rather in terms of players. All players should benefit from ad hoc events such as these not just those who mainly PvE
