How can I measure different character progression after the next update?

Eh, none of us know what "most players" want. All we know is our own feelings on this sort of thing.

Given achievements are squirreled away under a secondary menu in the journal. I think it's fair to estimate that, at least, 50% of the playerbase is, at best, apathetic about them.

*shrug* Possible. The only people I can speak for are myself and two good RL friends: one of them isn't thrilled but says she'll adapt, the other is happy enough with AWA, and I don't give a rat's patoot about achievements at all - I have no problem keeping track of what all of my many alts have done so far, and where to pick up when I get back on one of them, no matter how long it's been (because I have that sort of nit-noidy mind for games).

People do quests more than once?

I don't do all quests on all characters I run, but I do some on various ones - I have quest lines I just love, and do them on practically everyone, yes.

The lack of communication on this change is shocking.

It's not a lack of communication. This really is not an important issue for the vast majority of players.

Like, yes, it's extremely important for a handful of people, to the point that they're willing to cancel their subscriptions. But, most players don't care. Even I'm not especially worried about it. Yeah, I'm going to have some weird data on characters that completed specific achievements, and I'd argue there isn't a lot of reason to keep the, "earned by," tag on achievements, because that's not particularly relevant piece of information. But the players who use achievements to track individual characters is not the norm.

Most players don't care about their achievements to begin with. At least, not beyond, "do I get a thing for this?"

We'll see what happens to the forums after the update goes live.

That’s your opinion. Based on what?!

If you have read the threads, particularly the Bug Report one on the PTS, then you will understand that this is much more than just being about getting ‘shinies’ but about the basic replayability of the game.

I think more than 50% of the playerbase will be, at best, a bit annoyed about that.

If you have read the threads...

Based on the fact that almost no one comes to the forums.

No, seriously, ZOS advertises that there are 10m accounts, but, there's probably less than 1k players posting here on any given day. (And, yeah, I'm estimating, I could be off, there could be double that. But there are not five million people wandering in to check on the boards. There aren't even 500k (which would be half of the estimated active accounts.)

The vast majority of players don't care about this hyper specific thing, that a few people on the forums cared about. That's kinda how this works.

The number of community members that cared enough about achievements to specifically go out of their way to participate in achievement related threads was minuscule, and the fact that the list of players who are taking issue with this change is even shorter... Saying you represent the majority is like saying, "I know it's just me and 5 other guys, but when the people out there hear about this, at least 6 million of them are going to be extremely irate."

I seriously doubt that, especially as this will finally give PS5 owners a way of transferring their trophies over from their PS4 days.

I don't think there's any way to know how many people read the forum (but you can read it without an account so that also wouldn't be a useful metric - some of them won't actually own ESO at all) but we can see that 160,893 people have gotten the 1st Comment badge - meaning they've posted at least once since the forum was created (and only 41,453 have gotten the 10 Comments badge).

I think it's safe to assume that across all 6 servers there are considerably more than 200,000 players, so the forum is a minority of ESO players.

The real question is whether the forum population is likely to be a representative sample of the player base as a whole, which is a lot harder to answer (I don't think we can do it with publicly available data).

In this case I suspect not because it's likely people who choose to read and post on the forum regularly are more active or committed players - those who want more information on the game and/or want to talk about it when they can't log in (as well as those who come to get help with something specific) and that sort of player is probably more likely to care about achievements. But as I said I can't be sure.

    Greetings,

After review of this thread, it seems to have derailed from answering the original thread question and is mostly general feedback about Account Wide Achievements. As there is already two official threads for feedback on that topic here and here, we've gone ahead and closed this one down to consolidate feedback and prevent the forum's getting clogged with repeated information.

Feel free to continue discussion on the official thread, however, please keep in mind the Forum's Community Rules when doing so.
