That would be fine if the game was designed like this from the start, but as it stands, many of us have repeated achievements on alts, as well as used achievements to track what our alts have completed. The way the system is being implemented, all that time will be invalidated.
It's important that those who favour account-wide achievements don't vote for the principle, but for the actual implementation currently on the PTS. Those opposed to it on the official feedback thread on the PTS forum include supporters of the principle of achievements being account-wide, but they don't agree with the way it is being implemented.

So you want me to replay content on alts because of your time spent?

No, I want you to have access to an account overview of achievements so you can do what you want, while I still have access to my individual characters' achievements so I can do what I want.
Yup, this is the only reasonable way - just make it right having both character and account wide achievements. I don't know why this is even a problem, when they track some achievements individually anyway (so why not all of them?).Yes, respect both player paths, both player headspaces.
