I started a thread on this very subject in 2014 not long after launch. That is how long we have been asking for this.

My favorite is when a skirt ALSO has a flap and it clips into itself.

And styles that clip into themselves (same style and weight) with the default personality!

    It's truly amazing.
    Hoping for more playable races.

I just want werewolf to be viable in endgame PvE T.T (which not allowed according to PTS update 50)

I wish the hip flaps/butt flaps/loin cloth were part of the waist slot. As is the waist slot is just a floating belly belt buckle and is goofy

while i don't think they should stop , per say, i do think they need to make it so they AREN'T floating in the air around you, and i think they absolutely need to give us the option to turn them off, like helmets.

I dislike them, i think they're poorly done, and i really would love to not be forced to constantly have massive parts of floating armor on my characters just because i liked most of the set EXCEPT the floating bits.

That said, i'm sure they DO have their fans, but Zos needs to give us the option to turn off those, elbow and shoulder pads, as well as give us a blank style set, so we can add that empty slot to an outfit without unequipping it.

This would be great, especially if we could hide waist.

I don't understand how they are part of the chest.

Probably to help with clipping, since the torso gear can overlap the waist and legs and needs to be on the outside.

Yeah, it clearly seems to be part of their "style" (like giant flaming shoulders in WoW).

Also, "hide flaps!" isn't a simple option to add. The flaps are part of the chest motif, so they'd have to rebuild all of them in order to give any option other than "hide entire chest". With the whole thing made more complex by asking for "oh, can I hide the hips but not the butt flaps?" or the reverse.

edit: for the record, I don't like them, either. I just don't see it happening.

But they don't seem to be truly part of the chest, going by how the back one goes away for argonians and khajiit, as well as a "Hide tassets" setting has been found hidden in the files among the hide mount training stuff. Same as we have seen hide shoulders from a dev stream.
At least the hip flaps saves this one’s money. One look at it and all inclination to spend crowns is gone.

Why would you ever pay crowns for a style that is obtainable in game?

I'm pretty sure that these kinds of threads are still going to be around on ESO's 10 year anniversary! Which isn't far off now.
PLEASE for pete's sake, isn't 8 years of asking for a way to hide shoulders and tassets enough?!! Let us hide them!!

I hate floaty flaps too, the ones that stick to your character are good though. Here are the 3 worst flaps in the game.

1- Trinimac heavy. The worst. The flaps are so big that they come down to your kness. You can just remove them and use them as shields

2- wormcult heavy. Not as big as trinimac but still very big and they are so thick that your hands will clip through them.

3-Nighthollow heavy. Probably the thickest flaps and your hands will clip through them.

It is easy to "hide" the tail flap for the beast races. All they have to do is create a separate 3D model that does not have the tail flap and use that when the gear is equipped on those races.

I hope, I am. Not wrong. But ZoS engine can't implemented this feature nor cloaks for that matter...
If they did make cloaks till will be like in skyrim the red guards clothes... I say that isn't a cloak at all..

Front, rear and hip flaps do bother me on some sets, so I try to avoid them when I can.
Mostly what burns my eyes the most is the awful clipping that happens with them.

Either from the crotch\butt flaps looking like they are cutting into your legs during some animations\poses or hip-sheathed weapons clipping into, or under, many of the hip flaps.

Designing a motif to account for the full range of character body builds\weights\heights would be challenging so I imagined this was why many look like they are floating 5 inches away from the characters legs.

To get around the clipping you'd have to do something like design the hip\butt flaps with enough rigging\"joints" that they crush and fold naturally around the legs\rear when crouching or sitting.
Things like that may just be beyond technical capabilities of an older engine.

But like others have said if they'd wish to correct or modify these things it likely would have already happened, so I won't hold my breath.

The reason they don't have capes is because of the engine - they didn't have the ability to add any more surfaces that bend/curve/move/transform during player movement. It's part of why robes look like they are stuck to the backs of legs when characters run. Those transformable surfaces had limited range away from the wireframe. It's easily imaginable that the same engine limitations affect the rest of the possible options for character clothing. However, I can't be the only person to have proposed a "No Tasset" option that is technically a 1x1x1 pixel piece of armor.

Agree. Many motives have tassets, even on light armor. I'm not against these things, perhaps ZOS really likes it. However, I really want to be able to hide tassets (and shoulders). This little thing will make my game more enjoyable.

A solution that I suggested in the past is to move the tassets to the belt piece, so if you don't like the tassets, you can change the belt piece.

I really wish for new motifs without flaps and rags. (I don't mind some, am just asking for something else this chapter)

I will farm motifs if I have a master writ but I never buy the style from the crown store- hate the bulky weird hip pads and the massive shoulders. I’d rather save my money and just farm the ones I have to get for writs.

This game seriously needs something like BodySlide...

This one is from Skyrim SE. Fully modular, each piece of the outfit can be switched on/off or swapped for a different version.

They're awful. It's one of the reasons I use the very same outfit (Cyrod's Gentry's Town Gown) for years (the other is because since then no other outfits were very skin-ready). It's almost like ZOS excuse for the flaps is for them to be scabbards for non-staves weapons.

The only way to make it right is to make em optional. We already had this option in UI it's just hidden and do nothing currently so hope is that they're working on it.

Also on a theme that "it's impossible, they're part of an outfit so make them belts (spoiling this entire slot)": not really. Some parts are already modular, like parts of some particular boots, gloves and armor can already be hidden by unintended means (equipping some particular other outfit piece, for example) and probably there's more to it. If some aren't already it's not a problem, it would need a couple days max of intern work to separate and fix meshes. Pretty sure implementation team would handle this.

Personally I like most tassets etc. and without them won't be able to create decent outfits but with amount of personalities we have it's impossible task to balance everything out, just things like a toggle would be any good solution.

Agreed, most hip flaps looks bad, just floating in the air...should be toggleable, just as shoulders.

What bothers me is that 90% of new armor pieces which have front flaps don't have them on rear end, it's just incorrect from an aesthetic point of view, lasy.
