Vet ranks: a terrible idea

Craglorn will be coming out soon, and I have a vet rank 1 templar. Don't get me wrong I love the PVP but it hardly awards any vet XP, it would take years to get up to vet rank 10 playing PVP. And I refuse to grind low-level quests in other zones just so I can play the new zone.

I signed up for these forums just to make this topic. This is my first post ever here. Please consider allowing ALL vet ranks to enter craglorn or whatever new zones you come out with. This game has had a lot of problems and very disappointing group content, but hey the games only been out a month, and I think it looks like it could have a very promising future if the grouping was just a little bit better (I bought the game hoping there would be 6 player and 12 player dungeons, but nope... I found myself going back to LOTRO because the game has better grouping and that game is free)

What you are suggesting would be akin to other mmos (which shall remain nameless) allowing people to raid as soon as they hit level cap - in whatever hgear they happened to be wearing at the time.

Veteran levels are the time sink that would normally be taken up by "heroics" or various other mechanic that requires you to perform basic progression toward increasingly difficult end game content.

I'm afraid as tedious as many may find such progressions... I personally don't agree with removing them.

Have you even been to the other zones? The quests don't give you 200xp. The main quest will give you 10-11k per interval, and the longer side-quests will do the same. This is just in the first area. I assume the other areas give more.

I absolutely agree this should be zenimax's primary concern and method to grow the game, replacing the recycled other two alliances with group content, dungeons, pvp alternatives, etc. I love to play alts, and I already have characters in all 3 alliances, I'm really not interested in seeing every alliance on every single character. It's just too much repetition.

They're releasing Craglorn for like 1% of the playerbase. Sure it's nice that it's there but I for one will probably never even see it. They're pandering to people who exploited to reach max lvl as fast as possible, too, when they probably deserve bans instead. Too bad corporations can't afford to have morals or ethics.

it's a stupid idea allright. but the stupidity lies in calling them "veteran" ranks. see it as level 50-60. it's essentially that anyway.

the other thing that's not stupid but lame rather i'd call it, is that they recycle other zones. i'd rather level one guy to "60" then another and another and play different quests. then again in other mmo's you're playing the same zones most of the time too.

it's a strange system, but in the end not any much different than in other mmo's.
i wonder what they'll do when they'll eventually raise the level cap tho. elite ranks?

Craglorn is geared toward Veteran level 1 is it not? And the quests in the other zones you travel to are Veteran level, they are not low level. All the NPC's are scaled accordingly.

Edit - Although there is some container loot problems in Veteran zones, but its a bug that needs to be fixed is all.

I for one am very hyped for the Veteran content.

People always whine about it like "oh my god, this takes so long, one Veteran rank is like 10 levels" and "i don't want to visit other Alliances to get my exp".
But i think it's a really cool idea. It takes away the dreadful ways of other MMOs which level you up like a madman and then let you raid in green gear.
I love it when the leveling aspect is long. It gives me more time to master my specs and to play around with different skills.

Besides, you are suppsoed to actually enjoy your MMO.
Reading all the quest text, getitng to know what is going on within your Alliance and the War, finding your place in the snippets of lore that they have...
If you play an MMO to quickly grind your way to max level, you might as well go singleplayer.

Veteran content is awesome, the only problem is not how long it takes to go through the content but how long it takes you to actually get to the next veteran rank, I barely hit VR4 yesterday when leaving the VR4 area to step into the VR5 area and now I'm gonna need to do more quests with poorly scaled exp rewards, you don't get enough exp to get to the next rank before having to leave for the next area. This is becoming a real issue since you basically get a few more points of hp/stamina/magicka and access to slightly better gear while the mobs are scaled up to be more challenging.
Also, you could more or less skip PVP as well until you reach VR10, you basically get no exp from it, took me 3 hours to get maybe 40k exp, that's less than the scaled up area story quests rewards and those are done in 20 minutes, tops.

It's not about being max level for me. I just want to be able to play the new zone, new dungeons, etc, without an insane grind, playing 2 factions is that grind. Sure, i COULD keep doing low-level quests until I hit vet rank 10, then finally I get to play Craglorn... But I won't. I'd rather play a different game that involves less grinding.

You realize theres not ANY end-game content right now? Group dungeons would be good. PVE group dungeons are a great option for when you're in the end-game. I would say every MMO should have a few end-game group dungeons.

The PvE to be competitive in RvR did indeed harm DAOC for RvR focussed players. It was great for PvE players in DAOC. As long as Veteran ranks and raids have marginal impact on PvP here this shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm finding the Veteran Ranks to be horrible now that I am here.

At VR2, you get 46 exp per npc kill. You read that correctly, 46 exp per enemy kill.
It's 912,000 exp from VR2 to VR3.

The frequency of dropped items is also lower. The rate of killing enemies is also slower.

The content is exactly the same as making a new character in another faction, except with higher numbers and stats.

I wanted to play as a Daggerfall Covenant soldier, I did not want to drudge through the "end game (aka the starting areas of the other factions)" as an Aldmeri Dominion soldier and be forced to Quest through their content.
For the Queen, let's go kill those Daggerfall Covenant bad guys! Just no.

I feel like I just played through a poorly made single player game (between level 1 and 50 there are only 3 instanced dungeons that make grouping mandatory, and are totally optional) without "end game" content that requires a monthly subscription fee.

Questing. Innovative, I know.

Required completing 90-100% of available content in each veteran zone, yes, compared to quickly outlevelling it during 1-50, but there IS enough content to ding v10 purely through questing and regular zone content.

No pvp, no cyrodiil pve, no grinding, no exploits. Only a few veteran group dungeons (still have these to look forward to, and their lovely epics). Pretty much just quest quest quest.

I too was frustrated by the idea that coming through 2nd/3rd alliance content would be repetitive with alts... So i just 'wowquested' through it this time: paying little to no attention to the main story quest of each alliance, and instead enjoying the variety of environments and the knowledge that i'll probably miss much of this content levelling through it 1-50 with an alt.

Now? I'm actually looking forward to bringing an alt through this content to experience it for real... LISTEN to what Bill Nighy has to say finally

Well , to me they are fine , ONCE.

I dont mind lvling my first char all the way up to vet 10 , seeing all the regions and quests , actually , i like this.

But the fact that to have an alt , i have to do all this again ... annoys me.

So i really wanted to have one of each class at a really high lvl to test them , but there is no way im doing this.

If i get tired of my templar , i would rather quit , than lvl an alt from 0 honestly.

The idea of vet ranks is good, not so good however is that you only gain VR 11 + 12 at the Raid Zone.

But... seriously: How is levelling through the same content here any different to levelling through the same content in any other MMO?

Better it's a long, tough process than they just start, i dunno, selling max level characters in the store like other games are looking to do...

I agree with you but not for your reason .. I won't see it because I loathe being forced to 'group up' to see basic content as do many playing.

I don't mind group-or-die side issues like optional dungeons or raids but open world content in an entire zone demanding grouping is so 1990s.

Because other MMOs , usually , offer multiple paths to quest , they have more than one zone for the same lvl range.

ESO does not , so if you want an alt , you must do the exact same quests again , well , maybe your choices change a really small bit , but it is pretty much the same thing all over.

Now , up to vet 10 , im visiting ALL the PvE lvling areas , for ALL factions. Not that it would matter much to me , because i cant afford to change factions since we are lovked to the factions we belong when doing group content.

There is just nothing else to see , granted , im certain i missed a few quests , but not enough for me to lvl a new char.

Now , i also dont agree that they should sell vet 10 chars , but where the game stands now , if they dont a solution to this , i for sure will quit over making an alt.

But that is me , i heard one or other guy that had a vet char actually doing this , some people got more patience than I , the question is if enough people do so or if more are like me, which would make the devs think about this issue. A question i have no answer for.

Honestly, the only reason I don't like the veteran levels and veteran "content" is that it requires me to do ALL of the quests in the game on ALL of my characters.

I don't mind the grind or the amount of XP it takes to get each level. It takes something like 1.3 million xp to go from VR3 to VR4, but my Nightblade is almost there. I certainly don't mind doing the quests and taking in the story and all that.

The problem is just that it makes me quite a bit less interested in making alts. Initially I liked the idea that each alliance had their own set of zones, their own complete set of quests and their own story. I liked the idea of being able to create an alt in one of the other alliances and level up a character with 90% of the quests being different with a different story.

With the way the veteran content is done, ESO will be just like any other MMORPG where my alt characters do 100% of the same exact quests my other characters did. That's going to make it much less exciting to play a new character for me.

If I had to pick the best zone, it would be Coldharbour. It was 'immersive.' The quest lines made sense and progressing through the zone made sense, well, more sense than other zones that seemed more like a hodge podge of random quests.

Then you hit VR rank and suddenly you lose that sense of coherency. ZOS should have left the questing in opposing faction zones as an option. Unfortunately, ZOS had to make it mandatory because they needed the filler content. Otherwise they knew that the pts guys would hit level 50 in less than a week after early access launch. Mix that in with the idea that some didn't want to level alts and we have the current kludged 'leveling' scheme.

Quite happy with VR ranks myself. On the other hand I am already VR10.
