New life event and the cost of crafting

Hi,

Just thought I'd let management know that the cost of crafting materials is not worth the effort of doing the new life 'deep winter' charity.
I don't know how newer players are going to get around this without some frustrations.

Some of the quests require (12 craftable objects)....is this an event or a push to spend our gold?

I've never done those in all the years I've played. I need my housing crafting mats for ME - and believe me, 1 voucher isn't enough to get me to part with those mats.

I just did the provisioning ones. You only have to craft things like roast chicken which is a one item (green) food recipe. The blacksmithing ones are a lot cheaper than woodworking, but less so than provisioning.

Also people are doing it for the skin and achievement, not the writ vouchers.

I actually do the Imperial provisioning writ ones, just not the Deep Winter ones or the Imperial furnishing ones. The provisioning ones don't use furnishing mats!

i stopped doing all of these writs after getting the crystalfrost skin many years ago when it was added lol, i still usually keep them in storage if friends need to do them though or sell them if price is good enough (usually a few months after event)

i do agree the quantities for some of them are extremely unreasonable especially with the high cost to craft each individual item

I put a whole bunch of writs from the previous year up and they all sold very quickly; indeed it is those linked the crystal-frost skin.

Same here, I have the skin already and I'm holding on to my mats, thank you very much!

Well got the skin already, and I am not into creating furniture for the house part of Eso.

I got 1 free house from last year its full of junk of the Antiques I found

The only thing is to want to get the new outfits but seems easier to buy them from guild traders in a few days when people will sell their duplicates and prices will drop deeply/.

And the Materials the drop is sooooooooooooooo low.

The price gauging on furnishing mats -particularly mundane runes and heartwood- is absolutely out of control right now. They're uncommon enough that it's proving to be fairly easy for people to buy them all up and re-list for 2-3x the price that they normally go for. I wish I could list some for reasonable prices, but there's a very high chance that flippers will get ahold of them first and then just list for absurd prices.

And sure, people can go farm them, but I tend to find *maybe* 20 heartwood in an hour of farming at times, and that's with the CP perk that doubles my yield ~10% of the time. As OP mentioned, newer players are most likely not going to have this perk yet. I don't know how many heartwood/runes the writs take, but even if they take 5, players who may need to buy mats to supplement their inventory are looking at spending 10k per writ, assuming 2k per piece of wood or rune.

If anyone on PC/NA is struggling to complete their writs because other people are awful and are price gauging, feel free to PM me in-game or on here and I can send you furnishing mats for free. @aeiathehuntress (that's indeed an i in aiea)

Yes, I know that this is how economies work sometimes, but that doesn't mean it's not crappy of people to do this stuff.

Once I did the event specific achievements for them, I just started selling them for 5K each. They eventually make up for the cost of the mats to do the initial ones, and then some going forward.

Yeah, the festival writs are mostly useless to me because of the cost of the furnishing mats. As others have said, I, too, only do the provisioning ones.

Yeah all I got was the cony bunny runebox for using a few mats I have thousands of gotten for free by harvesting.

It is not "price gouging" to sell a rare / desired item for a higher price. Should they sell it for less so others can flip it or pile them up?

I just restarted on the PC about 6 months ago and I had enough (except for Nickel, which I bought) to make 6-10 of each writ.

I do crafting dailies most days on 11 or so characters, so I also have plenty of gold if I want buy them even at inflated prices. I harvest just about everything I come across. Stuff piles up quickly.

I agree that they're expensive to do. On my main, I've almost got the achievement/skin for doing 12 writs. Once that's done, I won't be doing any more, and I won't be going for the achievement on my other toons.

wait until after the event, when mats prices go down. You still can turn in them then.

The experience from these quests is OK however I do wish that the junk from these quests could be sold back for a jewel or so I'm so overloaded with rune boxes etc.

The Imperial Charity writs can only be turned in during the event. The Deep Winter ones, as you say, can be turned in at any time.

And except for the Deep Winter furnishing ones that require Hardwood, they're reasonably cost-effective ways to grind XP, when compared to alchemy or enchanting master writs. One caution, however; they only give about 2/3 the XP that master writs do.

At least, that's how I feel on PC/NA, this year. Prices vary by server and over time.

I did some and when saw how much mats it takes and the rewards you get. I never did them again. The reward should atleast return some of your mats if nothing else. Who has that many furnishing mats to burn. Anyhow I got the skin and the outfit styles i needed in my first try so i am done with them for good.

Except Heartwood prices haven't gone down ever since around Greymoor, it just keeps getting more and more expensive. The same goes for Mundane Runes. They're required for what seems like 80% of blueprints overall, and in fairly high numbers, which means it's ridiculously hard to farm anywhere near a decent number in a reasonable amount of time.

Don't forget that this is the event where we get the free house, too. A LOT of people are going to be snapping up mats to make furniture to decorate with long after New Life itself is over.

There are too many writ drops, I have started a new character, the loot boxes are dropping rune boxes or writs which when completed give styles that are duplicates.
So far only 2 recipes and 1 skin changer style item from 60 boxes.

Part of the problem is that demand, the other is that every year the same happens so people bought all the heartwood in game and then put it back on guild stores at more than double the price knowing it would happen.

ESO uses a no holds barred capitalist economic model and everything that goes with it. The best thing to do with the heartwood using writs is try and offload them to another sucker.

You either buy a load of heartwood 4 weeks before, or don't do them. And quite frankly if you bought a load of heartwood 4 weeks before you probably sell the heartwood at double your money instead 8)
