No mumble works fine. Only play with premade guild groups so have no need for an ingame voice program. Resources can be better spend on other aspects of the game.

Team Speak, Mumble, Vent etc. are fine, but not something you want to mess with for every little 2 or 3 man group or PUG. There's always somebody who'd not set up right, can't download it, wants to use Vent instead of TS or whatever (or vice-a-versa).

An in-game audio chat that EVERYONE with a mic has access to, with basic features for small groups, would be great to make this game more group friendly. I've played other games with it, and it at least doubles the amount of time I use voice with people.

Yes because everyone needs to hear techno music, soundboards and YOU WANT GOLD? YOU BUY NOW CHEAP GOLD! and the ever so popular HOW I MINE FOR FISH?

No. And here's why. Because 99% people won't use it. Look at other mmos. I have played a lot of them and some of them have ingame voice chat but almost noone uses it. Everyone will still prefer TS, Mumble, Ventrillo etc.

Totally don't agree with that, and not my experience. Lotro is an example--lots of people use the in game chat. It's nice because you can depend on it being there, and it's quick and easy to set-up without leaving the game. EQ2 as well. Just because it never seemed to catch on with WoW may speak more about it's bad implementation.

Or possibly the fact that, hey, who wants to talk to a WoW player anyway? :D

I'd be down for that for in-game groups. Right now, it's almost impossible to get random group members on a unified voice chat.
    ;-)

agreed. If LOTRO can do it, so can ESO.

I would like to see a integrated chat program for pugs and stuff but id likely still use TS for guild. But I really think other content, bug fixes and cool stuff should come 1st.. Low priority IMO but as long as it doesn't add to much stress to servers it cant hurt.

If done right, sure. After playing some games with in-voice chat, I gotta say that it can be absolutely horrible at times. I remember this one time in GA where we got into a pvp match and this one guy was singing Britney Spears the whole time, and there was no way to mute people in that game. Even /ignore wouldn't shut his voice.

If the leader has the ability to mute everyone but himself, that'd be great for raids/pvp. If players can individually mute other players, that'd be great for pvp. But if it's always on, with no control whatsoever as to who can speak and with no way to muting players, absolutely not.

Considering they have so many things to fix, and this would be a huge strain on their already fragile servers, I don't see this ever happening though.

I only like to use voice among friends I'm familiar with.

Because having some drunken guy screaming into my ear or a kid fantasizing about elf breasts can completely kill my fun. And when game's have an in-game voice it becomes almost mandatory that you have to use it and listen to people.

I had to put up with a lot of this when I played LOTRO.

So this is one of those things that can be either good. Or bad.

EQ2 has a nice system that many guilds, groups, pugs groups and raids use.

I hate to say this, but it's been my experience that the players who aren't able to install and use Vent or Teamspeak, are most often the players that aren't worth grouping with in an MMO. I know it's an absurd over-generalization, but it has saved me from countless wipe fests with bad pugs when I follow this rule. The few times I've allowed myself to join a pug against my better judgement when I could have applied this rule, I usually ended up regretting it and walking away from the group without accomplishing anything but a large repair bill.

I also agree that the in-game VOIP is a bad idea. The load it places on the servers is beyond excessive.

If they implement it, then disabling it would be the 1st thing I do...

I would much rather play in silence, rather than listening to music or someone chewing or shouting at people in the same room/ house as they are.

No way. Bad idea for an all access voice. I have been there, and like I have read above, more time spent listening to people go on about drivel than any productive use. Its bad enough to read the dribble that is in chat, no way to I want to have to listen to it even more.

No thanks. If voice chat becomes a force deal in-game, it'll just lag the servers, and lag the game for people on lower end systems.

This is why it would have a max and minimum range, just like the /say option. Not rocket science here.

You don't have to implement as a proximity thing at all. Sheesh. You're going to invite Gold Farmers into your group????

Do it like Lotro does. Group or Raid only. You won't be bothered unless you invite an idiot into the group.

And... it's often done on a dedicate server. The cries about server load are exaggerations.

This game is already not considered very group friendly--a lot of people think of it as a stand-alone game played in the company of other stand-alone players.

A dependable, basic, voice chat would simply be a tool in the arsenal to make it more social for those who want it. If EQ2 and Lotro are any indication, it can be very useful for that indeed.

    Simple answer, No.

I don't want the devs spending time on a function that can be provided, free and better by an external piece of software.

The term "better" is relative and subjective. For instance, in an MMO, external voice-chat software, when using "ease of use" and "standardized" and "ubiquity" as the metric, is not "better" at all.

Those utilities may have better sound fidelity and extended features, but the whole point of this freaking thread is that in-game voice provides convenience, functionality and universality that make it, for some people and in some circumstances, clearly "better'.

Cyrodiil would/could be off the hook at times, BUT, I can see things (with an in-game VIOP) being a little better organized from a "military chain of command" POV.

I don't know how people can effectively play PVP non-solo without some kind of VOIP, in-game or otherwise.

For me, it would need to be limited to dungeons only. No using voice elsewhere in the game.*

I really don't want to listen to 12 year olds spewing every naughty word they've ever heard their parents say, or the more likely of the two -- wild screaming for no reason other than to be an obnoxious little turd.

Play RUST for 10 minutes and then tell me how much you want voice chat. >_<

    *PVP excluded.

Eq2 in game voice chat is the best I have ever used. Has selectable channels built in, for guild chat, group chat or private chat. So while out doing dungeon runs it is no problem at all to invite someone you know or not cause the second they accept the group invite they are put in to group chat, unless they have it turned off. A lot of players will have it turned on to listen and just type questions they may have if they do not have a mic.

If I remember right SOE uses a separate server just dedicated to voice and doesn't impact the main game at all.

That server also does the games public chat.

And I still caught crap not wanting to use it in pugs. And I couldnt normalize sound like I can with vent so everyone was too loud or too quiet and I spent way too much time adjusting volume.

If they do it as a group/raid thing, I really don't know how you'd not either kick the obnoxious little turd from your group, or leave their group, in 2 seconds. Just as you would seeing them post like that in text chat. Not really an argument against in-game voice.

Yes, with today's technology and the constant pugs we get into with this game, it would be nice to have in game chat.

Add that to the hundred of things that should be in this game already and we will be good.
