This is ridiculous its not in game. It helps alot of new or returning players with what they should wear. I know as returning player... im blindsighted by all the different attributes and stats with new skill tree + combinning with gear sets....

it is sensible that is not in game.

if you want to know what i'm using ask me. my response will depend on how you ask me.

The best sources of build info is from numerous sites because those build creators take the time to fully explain what/why they're doing. If you have a supportive guild, chatting to them is another reasonable source. Asking randoms will get you incomplete answers due to the time/words required to properly explain a build. Silently inspecting their gear is a pretty poor option since you have no idea of why the other player chose what they chose or how it fits with their other choices (traits, attributes, skills, cp, ...).

And yes, privacy is a thing. I have no interest in trying to explain why my templar healer pairs Spell Power Cure with Rattlecage and don't feel obliged to defend gear choices when the gear I choose fits my style and objectives perfectly.

Really bad idea, for the reasons others have listed already.

LOL give players something like this always ends up bad. For me, I could care less if someone can see my gear as I don't do the group content or PVP. at all.

I'm gonna go ahead and join the steady chorus of "heck no"s in this thread.

Game is already full of elitism when it comes to the group content. People getting kicked immediately at the start of the dungeon just for being 300 CP or something. Last thing we need is doubling down on those situations. If you want to know someone's build that badly, ask. In a polite, non-confrontational manner, preferably.
Stay out of my loot drops, too.

    Also, that.

    It would just turn toxic.

People will vote to kick from stuff like 4 man vet dungeons all the time because they aren't using the ABSOLUTE best set up, ignoring the fact that there's like 10 setups that can be almost as effective and absolutely enough for that content.

Aren't there a bunch of websites and Youtube channels dedicated to build ideas?

I don't see a need to see other peoples set ups at most add an option to share your build in chat would be nice for those that get asked about it often, so they don't have to type it all out themselves. But even then some idiot would probably use it to spam chat, you already get people from time to time who link there gear to chat with no one asking them about it.

PLEASE NO!!! I still remember in WOW and other MMO's that have this, all the random people telling me my toon sux's. The gear was lousy, I didn't know how to play.

I Love that we don't have inspect in ESO.

    Absolute no.

Stay out of my loot drops, too.

    S.

    Absolutely this.

I've had the same issues with gear inspections in another game - people sending PM's to ridicule your gear, telling you it isn't good enough, or just sending spiteful messages to let you know they will never ever do dungeons with you with a loadout "like that!"
Considering in that game I didn't do dungeons anyway, it wasn't even necessary. I don't want or need someones irrelevant opinion on what I'm using, if the only person it's going to affect is myself.

And I hate loot spies. It's none of anyone's freakin business what I'm wearing or what loot I'm getting unless I want to tell you. I don't want anyone's begging messages about my loot, and then getting aggro when I wont give it to them. Which has also happened in another game where prizes are announced on screen to the whole server.

Nope. When I started a nightblade a while back and was standing in Stonefalls minding my own business at level 14 or something, someone whispered to me about what gear I was wearing and what I had in my quick slots. I was shocked. I didn't know it was possible to see that info about another player. They must have been using an addon that was maybe using a backdoor bug or something? Anyway, the player was saying detrimental things about the potions I had slotted (I had tri-potion slotted because I have zillions of them from login rewards, and for some reason this person took issue with that) and making suggestions about what pieces of gear to wear. This was intrusive and unwelcome. So no, don't want this.

(I just ignored them and they eventually went away, but it sort of ruined my play session that evening.)

Yikes... I personally think they're a bit lacking in intelligence since the crown tri-pots are only a fraction of a % worse than a hand made tri-pot. And only in the health field to I might add as the Stamina and Magicka are literally the same (If we're talking about the Mountain Flower, Bugloss, and Columbine tri-pot)

I use the crown tri-pots all the time, especially when procing Clever Alchemist.

Nope. No need for it, ask another player if you're wanting feedback. Raid groups already use encounterlogs to see whats up, a raid is really the only situation where it would matter kinda what you're wearing. Older players can tell what you're wearing based on your proccing, or lackthereof with skills/abilities you're using.

Adding the ability to see everyone elses stuff is...not good. People will be mean about it. I run an add on that shows me people food levels and some people get irritated about that as it is, and I only use it to let them know their food is out.

I get that people can be too shy or too scared to try talking to other people. Reaching out to ask someone might be the horribly awkward experience some posters here seem to be describing. No judgement, its a fantasy video game and we're all nerds here.

But I don't think that spending development time on programming solutions to something that is so easily solved by basic human communication is the right answer here.

I've been asked a bunch of times about the gear I'm running or the motifs or whatever. Its never felt it awkward or hard to explain, and I've made friends or added people to run with because we had something interesting to talk about.

ESO is NOT WOW - something the community is actually very proud of. Keep it as it is, and people can choose for themselves whether they want to share or not, and we can put that crucial development time rather to things that will make the game shine in its own light.

I'd add that being able to see any other player's equipped items would do little to help new/returning players know what to use, because so many people don't make good choices about this anyway. Best to just look up guides for the current patch.

From a strictly personal POV I don't think it would be a good move. I have played many MMOs over the years that allowed players to inspect another players equipment, and it generally creates a divide between players.

Let me explain, many players will tell you that if you can inspect another players equipment you can then give them advice on what would be a better choice or to compare your equipment to see if you could improve. That is all well and good IF the player in question wants advice, or wants to give out his ideas but when you implement this ability you assume everyone wants to compare equipment. This is generally not the case for the average player IMO and just leads to others telling you to get X equipment or in the most rude cases just dropping you from a group.

If you in fact just want to see what they are wearing/using there is nothing wrong with just asking them, and if they don't want to tell you that becomes their prerogative. As it sits we have on PC damage meters (I personally won't use), we don't need more ways to separate the players into the haves and have nots!.

This isn't a competitive game. The casuals have plenty of barriers to get into groups. We already have enough elitists to keep the servers toxic for a decade. We don't need more ways for that type to troll newish and casual players.

In fact, maybe removing dps stat sharing for anyone until cxp 1200 should be a thing. They shouldn't have to be competitive at all in such a casual game, but if players must view their dps to get into groups than beginning at 1200.

Give new players a chance to play, have fun and learn before they're thrown into the cold water of trade and elitist group content which usually brings them to drop the game.
If only there were a practice Arena with intelligent enemies that gradually got tougher as the players improve. That would get players doing the decent amount of dps. It's better than shaming them imho;)

Its enough that someone with loot addon telling me during fight and in middle of dungeon that he want what i looted, even when i dont know if i have it in collection or not (i usualy dont look what i looted with "autoloot" so stay out of my loot until end of dungeon/trial). Outrageousness.
Anyway about gear inspection. So you can't ask someone in dungeon? You are not in some guild? You can always kindly ask and you can get answer.

No thanks. Had that in WoW and RIFT, and it was a real problem - even when not grouped I occasionally got whispers denigrating my gear and so on. If they want to add it, it should be optional, and disabled by default.

I had similar experiences in open world WoW. I was also kicked from a dungeon once because my gear didn't meet their standards. The ironic part is it was that dungeon that dropped the gear they thought I should already have. What did they expect?
Yes, remember it was an pol about raising gear level requirement and many wanted gear level higher than that dropped in the dungeon to be the requirement.

I don't like the idea as it would make pug dungeons more toxic.

No discussion here. Not hard to find good current builds that already exist on the internet, so don't reinvent the wheel. Absolutely no reason to have this in the the game except to bully and be toxic to other players. Good try though.
