It could be helpful in a way and very bad in another.
There are many wannabe elite players in the game who could simply kick a player from a dungeon/trial because someone does not wear the gear they think is ''best'' for their role.

All they have to do is ask about a player's build.
We are better off without it less kicking of players by others who don't like your build.

You can use /encounterlog to check someone's gear and skills if you really want, idk if it's neccesary to add ingame UI for that.

No thanks. Had that in WoW and RIFT, and it was a real problem - even when not grouped I occasionally got whispers denigrating my gear and so on. If they want to add it, it should be optional, and disabled by default.

I have always thought that an online armory system like World of Warcraft has would be cool in ESO. It would help us learn how people make their builds.

At the same time, I respect someones wishes if they don't want their build being advertised.

Perhaps there could be an online armory, but with the ability to mask gear/spells?

While I've personally never had a build anyone would want to look at :# , I much prefer a system where someone can just click on me to see what armor pieces/costume/motif/whatever I have, rather than the intrusion, annoyance, and time, spent <brrr> talking to people. So much faster/easier/efficient/bothersome to just let them /inspect.

I honestly don't get the "omg, my privacy!" thing about /inspect systems. /shrug

But, then, I mostly view /inspect from the standpoint of looking for visuals and curiosity, not "we kick you!" judging.

Huh, wow. That never happened to me in WoW. But like I've probably mentioned in the past I didn't really do 'high end' or PUG content, so I rarely was in a position to get that. When I was playing, the judging was all about gearscore. /Inspect was for "ooh, what's that shiny armor you're wearing!"

I had similar experiences in open world WoW. I was also kicked from a dungeon once because my gear didn't meet their standards. The ironic part is it was that dungeon that dropped the gear they thought I should already have. What did they expect?

That's one way to deal with criticism on your suggestion.

The worries have nothing to do with privacy but with the abuse such system could cause.

I think it’s a bad idea. As a former WoW player I can say first hand how rude and mean people can be towards other players. It can get very bad. I’ve had guild mates stand around belittling people in trade houses for their fear choices.

If it’s ever implemented in this game there needs to be an option to block others from seeing your gear if you so chose. Otherwise they can just as easily ask what gear or sets the other is using.

There are better ways to get help. There are multitudes of builds online, which get updated as time goes on. That is a very good way to start until you begin playing with your own builds based on how you play the game.

I've played games where people could inspect your gear in one form or another. As has been mentioned, WoW is a chief offender as gear discrimination is one of the main cornerstones to that game's toxic community.

So, if your intent is to simply improve your situation, then all that information is readily available in spades.

While I have benefited by seeing how someone was geared in other games I think it would be a bad idea in ESO.

Toxicity in certain circles is already pretty high. Groups that have requirements such as raid groups are the only groups that really need to know what someone is wearing but they have their own ways of ensuring player performance.

There's so many builds on YouTube or online. That also usually gives you an explanation, because if you copy a build and then play like you're just smashing buttons then you're not helped one little bit.

As mentioned above, using the /encounter at the start of the fight and at the end of it will do this for you via esologs (can capture entire dungeon and trial runs). If you set up your esologs account and download the uploader, you'll be able to upload your encounter publicly or privately and assess practically every aspect of the run (skills used, gear, ability uptime, most damage done, healing done, etc.) Can also view public logs made by others, which can be useful in learning what others are doing in order to be effective.

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

If that's how you say it here, I'm not sure I want your opinion on any of my gear or looks.

Memes aside, the idea that criticism is indeed constructive and desirable is not something that should be assumed.

Encounter Logs seems to work quite well on PC because of a couple factors.

    A. It's after the fact. ZOS explicitly stated their concerns about giving detailed individualized combat feedback immediately, and the impact that would have on groups. After-the-encounter was their preferred method. I see no reason why they wouldn't use the same after-the-fact idea for a gear inspect option, since they already have Encounter logs.

    B. Its anonymized by default. Players had to insist on this.

Together, this means that Encounter Logs on PC is usually used constructively organized groups to refine their trial runs and other aspects of combat like buff uptimes.

So when you ask for an Inspect system, it's worth looking at what ZOS has already done and why it works properly.

ZOS explicitly stated many years ago they don't want to open this for the toxic behavior it may generate. Same reason for the lack of in game DPS meters, though there are addons providing workarounds.

These things are always divisive, and what some players consider to represent constructive criticism of someone else's build is often (a) none of their business and (b) seen by the other player as unwanted harassment. Making it optional never works for groups as failing to display your build may get you kicked anyway.

Out of curiousity, does ESOlogs show motifs/costumes/etc? Or just game stats?

Because like I said, the most common thing I've used inspect for in other games, is to see what exactly someone's wearing. And just some guy passing on the street, not "member of my dungeon pug".

edit: and asking people about that in chat is just a massively intrusive bother. I'd never do that.

This has been bought up many times and the consensus is usually that most players don't want it. I can't see how it has any use outside of trials/dungeon guilds where you would aready know what everyone is running. Pretty sure ZoS won't do this, but if they do it would definitely need to be an opt in situation.

people already are insulting and toxic ingame, right now people are removed from pve and pvp groups for not animation canceling and light attack weaving, adding the "inspect players armor" would just add yet another tool for insulting other players for not playing the way some players want you to play eso. i vote no and i hope it never is allowed in eso.

There is way too much potential for abuse, which is obvious in games that have this feature.

ZOS explicitly stated many years ago they don't want to open this for the toxic behavior it may generate. Same reason for the lack of in game DPS meters, though there are addons providing workarounds.

If you want to check others' builds who are willing to share, try esologs.com where you can see them in real action.

I agree concerning the toxicity. As for the DPS meters, I think ESO logs in sanctioned by Zenimax. While we can make it so our names do not appear in the life it’s not hard to figure out who is who.

Very awful idea. This will add a new level of toxicity that the game could do without.
