New Math to learn?

Im confused

Velindreth has a spike that hits in her third stage for 47k on Vet

The tooltip says its dodge able, but I cant seem to time it, as there are TWO that target me, probably cause Im the tank, fine

I have 43k health, so a 47k hit will kill me

Im ignoring the fact I have max resistances and Major and Minor Protection on

So, going by math I learned in the second grade, I use my Barrier Ultimate which gives the entire team a 33k damage shield

Now 43 + 33 = 76

At least that is what I was taught

I also learned 76 > 47

At least that is what I was taught

And yeeeeeeeet, her spike damage still went through ALL that, and the tooltip says 47k damage

Where can I learn this new math?

I have never heard of this kind of addition and subtraction

Is there a reference in the game to help me figure it out?

Please help

It is a one shot mechanic. If you listened really closely Velidreth is saying "Do not move a muscle" or something similar. If you fail to do so (if you move basically) you will be one-shot independantly of your stats.

You have to dodge roll to out before it strikes you. Personally I look up at the ceiling at her, hold block and when she starts to move I roll dodge and miss the attack every time. Don't think the math really matters here because it is a shot no matter what.

As far as 2 targeting you that sounds like a bug for sure. Had no more then one on me at a time. Now I have been late on the roll before and got hit by it but once I started to look up and block and roll dodge as soon as I see her move I never get hit anymore.

Stay safe and good luck :)

There's an empty red circle underneath your character that fills over 1-2 seconds. Dodge about 2/3 full and you'll be fine.

While I appreciate the helpful responses from the community, the issue isnt the mechanic itself, but the math applied and told to us via the tooltips

If you jump off the edge of a cliff in Sunspire, you take 999,999 damage, making it clear you will die no matter what

By giving us a specific number value in the tooltips that we CAN mitigate, with the right build, and it still being a one shot mechanic is a massive misstep in communication by the developers

If its a one shot mechanic, no matter what, they could just say that

Giving the players a number that seems to be survivable when its not, not only causes confusion, but can waste large amounts of time for players trying to figure out how they want to approach the fight. I will refer to the mantra of ES “Play the way you want to play”

Clearer communication on mechanics is a must for game garnering millions of players, and many newcomers

Pretty sure the whole point if doing it this way is exactly to force players to trial and error and figure out the best way to survive. And every one shot mechanic functions this way.

what type of damage is it? If it's oblivion, your shield isn't going to do squat.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are mechanics that ignore certain aspects of your damage mitigation or scale with the targets max hp. Figuring out how to survive thoses is most likely intended to take some time and trial and error.

For your specific fight, I never bothered to test it as it's relatively easy to avoid once you figured out the correct timing for your dodge roll. But I guess there is at least one possibility to survive it without dodging.

Then why bother with tooltips with asinine numbers to begin with?

    Again: Clear communication is key

So you COULD survive it if your health is high enough, is that what you are saying if the damage is Oblivion?

OR are one shot mechanics always one shot regardless of what the tooltip says?

The communication is: figure out how to do this encounter through trial and error.

If they told you that it's a straight one shot every time that would literally defeat the purpose of you needing to figure out the best approach to the situation. The expectation is that after you've attempted the mechanic a few times you figure out the best approach. When you see the one shot damage always scaling above your max health, that is meant to be a clue that max health or defenses will not save you. So, you have to try something else. Like dodge rolling or blocking. Until you find an approach that works.

There are some attacks that are health % based instead of having specific values. If you increased your health I'm guessing the value would go up as well.

As mentioned this attack is designed to kill you no matter what, so it probably does health + 10% in oblivion damage to make sure you die if you don't follow the mechanic.

It might be interesting to experiment with and see if there is a way to survive it, but it would probably be easier to just learn the appropriate moment to roll dodge.

Oblivion damage ignores shields so it's still 47k damage vs your 43k health. These one-snot mechanisms by design are unblockable, some even undodgeable (not Velidreth obviously). The tooltip says 47k damage, but that is also most likely based on your max health - in this case 110% would make sure you die even with the +10% HP buff on. It looks so close to avoid but that's just an illusion.

So it leaves nothing but a bit of practice - been there too, died a lot, but now I think it is ridiculously easy to avoid.
    Holdviola - Khira'de Regalo - Lélekvadász - Used To Be An Adventurer - Zetor - Does-Not-Give-A-Duck - Lord Sugar - Tenar Arha - Da'rinka - Violent Moon - Extreme Runner

By telling me the attack does a specific amount of damage says there is a way to mitigate it, when there is not. That is not trial and error, but simple misleading. There is a stark difference between the two

Look to the ground, there will be some sort of circle around ur feet.
After u hear cracking disturbing noises similar to these when you step on lego and ur bones shatter to pieces then roll.
Velidreth will laugh like an old lady when she manages to suck out the remains of lunch from her teeth cavities after hours of trying to do so and she will proceed to murder your team.
Anyone who didnt stop on time or moved before time or moved too late after the cracking sounds will die and others will shame that one calling him all non politically friendly names that are banned on twitter. Do not be that guy. Do not die to telegraphed oneshot mechanic.
