Thoughts on a second account

I only have one account. And currently 10 characters on it, of which the first is a master crafter and has completed all the quests in the game (apart from Deadlands).

Supposing (and admittedly it is unlikely), I got up to 18 characters and wanted more... How would I go about starting a second account, and would I have to pay actual money to do so? What about access to zones and dungeons, how would that work? Would I have to buy a second ESO+ subscription for the second account to have access to the DLCs that I'd actually bought with crowns on my main account, and still be locked out of the newest Chapters (which I bought with actual money) until they were a year out of date and got included in ESO+?

To start a second account you need to buy a new copy of the game and activate it on that second account. Nothing is shared between your accounts, from the game’s perspective there is no connection at all.

I recently bought a second copy of the game which was just base game + Morrowind for about $5 I think. I’m tempted to buy upgrades because for example Greymoor can be bought very cheaply… but it’s also kind of refreshing to be limited in where I can go and what I can do. It makes me feel less like I have to chase after hear from a certain DLC dungeon, or do DLC trials. No, I have what I have and I make do with that.

That being said, I took full advantage of the recent ESO+ trial to do some dungeons, scrying (which you basically lose after ESO+ trial runs out and you don’t have Greymoor), trials etc.

To all those who have a second (or more) accounts, when you first started the second account and set up your add ons, did they reset your add on settings for your main/first account? I'm thinking of making a second one but I'm too scared that my primary account's add on saved variables that I spent hours setting up for each alt will be reset or somehow be messed up when I log back in my main account after whatever I set up for the add on settings for my second account.

If some folks can share their experiences with this that would be appreciated!

Also I know I can just make a backup for the saved variables for my main before I mess with my second, but I'm just very scared that it still won't save everything exactly as it's been set (for example, the position of the add on that I've arranged on my screen) and I don't want to take a blind risk without knowing for sure that the saved variables for both accounts are independent from each other and that what I do with one account's add on settings won't change the other account's settings and vice versa.

It is up to the author of the addon. I am not recalling any addon where things broke because of a second account. At least, not recently. However, I have come across addons that do not support copying configurations across accounts, so I have to do things all over again on the second account.

    Hi mate.
I have a lot of accounts and like most I have my main setup just the way I want with addons. None of the other accounts change or alter my main acct. In fact from acct to acct you can have different setting/key binds for the same addon. Even from NA to EU [If you play both servers]
It makes sense however to make a copy before you do, but otherwise come join our Altaholics group

    Hope this helps.

I don't know how people do 18 characters, it takes me long enough to do writs on 5, though I am still feeding horses on four of them.

If you are on PC, you use Lazywritcrafter addon and go to Vvardenfell, it takes less than 5 minutes to do writs on a character, including logging in and out.

How can you do all events on all accounts without buying the expansions or chapters or dlcs needed to participate in some events?

Also it takes long enough to login and out of main account characters without having to play login on other accounts...how many hours do yall have in your day/night?

Actually you can use the login time of one account to do the writ on the other one and vice versa
so no more wating for loading screens

If you play on the opposite server (ie eu or na), you will keep any chapters you bought with money. Anything bought through the crown store will not carry over, but at least you will have the chapters.

You also keep ESO+ if you have it - because it's a purchase from outside of the game, too, not from the crown store. All the things you buy inside the game, i.e. in the crown store, are only there on the server you bought them on. The crates from Twitch drops appear on both servers, again, this is because they are injected from outside the game.

    All good information above.

Anyone migrating to the opposite server to start fresh and wants a hand with armor made [research or otherwise] wayshrines or basically anything mail me on either server @sgtwinnie

I found starting on the EU server during the summerset house event was just like buying another account. So it's always an alternative to buying another especially if you are on Eso +.
It's fun to revisit old storylines and fight that little bit harder because you are low cp on some of the more challenging content.

To all those who have a second (or more) accounts, when you first started the second account and set up your add ons, did they reset your add on settings for your main/first account?...

I have noticed that creating a character on EU with the exact same name as a character on NA creates some problems with some addons. Bandits Gear changer is a classic example in that the gear and skill setup on one server will overwrite that on the other with annoying, but not catastrophic results. To combat this, I use special ascii characters to substitute out a given letter. I have not tested whether the new armory station has the same problem.

Since I play multiple accounts off of one base install, another impact is that by default the add-ons for one account are active on every account until I specifically turn them off.

Finally, and related to the thread rather than the quoted post, I have pulled back from playing multiple accounts. I realized a lot of what I was doing wasn't actually fun, for me anyway. Crafting writs is lucrative, but not compared to earning real wages and selling crowns. While others may enjoy it, I find it's really more like an easy chore. CP 2.0 put max CP effectively out of reach, so I no longer grind CP, no longer buy DLC for most alt accounts, no longer pursue the daily rewards... you get the picture.

Oddly, subscribing tends to suck me back into gathering materials and running writs, so I rarely sub now. I occasionally run dungeons with family members, and regularly decide to play a particular character on a particular account on a particular server. For the most part, though, my many, many leveled alts gather dust and aren't even geared. I've been down the alt (and achievement) rabbit hole and come back to a place where I really enjoy the game more just piddling around with new characters and deleting them as I get bored. Your mileage may vary. (P.S. this is an alt account)

my main on EU and NA (xbox) is cp 1600 and cp 1490.

All toons have at least jewelry crafting and woodworking skills, so I used them for a while to farm daily crafting writs.

Also liked to try out different classes/setups and doing (Event-) dailies on as many as possible.

At some point I got a burnout though, and created a second account.
No more grind, not even using the xp-bonus from events. No eso+ either.
Just slow relaxed questing, enjoying challenges connected to my low level (20-45). Completely different gameplay.
Snce 2 weeks I actually just login to my main account to fill up trader slots and do endeavours.
