Blastbones and Other Pets Go Through Mistform

Me and a friend dueled each other a few times but I was incredibly amazed with his DPS. He made Mistform's mitigation in PvP look like nothing, he had to have so much damage!
In reality he didn't have the damage I was being led to believe. I told him to stop attacking me and he did, and then I had him hit me with Blastbones in Mistform and outside of Mistform.... same damage.
Blastbones, a player casted ability, does not count as player damage and thus ignores the damage mitigation of Mistform. This change to Mistform has actually managed to kill the ability in PvP as well as PvE. I wouldn't be surprised if the other pet attacks that don't count as being done by you did the same.
Edit: And the other pets do go through Mistform as well.

Auberon1983✭✭✭Very interesting! I have a Necro, though he's a PvE TankCro. I see you are on PC. I am on PS4, and we don't get the update until the 16th. Mistform used to mitigate everything till the Deadlands patch, but now it seems even some player attacks are getting through the rule of only player attacks being mitigated by the ability.

They made Mistform reduction not apply in PvE -- so against monsters it doesn't work.

✭This would make sense, I found back last year that blastbones was applying a snare called hamstring when it crit you from a flank. That same snare is applied by PvE monsters in order to slow you down. If this is the case for mistform being PvP only then it was probably an oversight for blastbones to bypass mistform.PvP needs more love.3 -

✭Tried it with my sorc guildie, mist form doesn't do any difference against any of the 3 sorc pets. I received the same damage in normal form as I did in mist form. This is good to know for next Cyro session.

And now this PvP-only ability doesn't even work properly in PvP anymore.
There is a word in German for trying to make things better but only making them worse in the process - verschlimmbessern. This is exactly what is happening here - an ability that didn't need a nerf got nerfed and in the process of nerfing it, it was also broken.This Bosmer was tortured to death. An awesome Guildmate of mine and I just tested it out with his vamp toon. On PS4/PS5, Mistform still has the damage mitigation. Blastbones was hitting for around 3K damage when he was out of Mistform, but only about 790 damage while he was in Mistform. We tested this about 5 times, same result each time. Yes I know those damage numbers are low, my Necro is a tank lol.
So, we can ascertain on PS, it's still how it was prior to the recent PC update.3 -

There was always counter play to Mist Form. Oblivion damage for example goes right through it.
You also can't even attack while in Mist Form. So what is there to counter really?

Some people believe that they must kill you to win. Granted it is a goal of Deathmatch BGs and ends the threat, but if the foe flees they are gone from the picture and no longer contributing. Some think the fact they continued to chase said vampire and then died to them after following them into a choke point only to get CC'd and bursted down is a sign that the ability is "OP". In all honesty, that was using the ability as intended, relocation. Bloodmist is countered by the fact it's slow and has a higher magicka cost, and Elusive Mist is countered by what you already mentioned, Oblivion damage, and damage over time effects that keep gnawing away at the HP.
