Also, for those who don't have craft bag or don't use auto-loot - there are TONS of merchants along the road to buy your junk. And did you know there is a DESTROY feature? And some addons will auto-fill the text for you! During year 1 with a smaller max backpack and no craft bag, we couldn't destroy stuff! All those useless blue motifs had to be sold to a vendor for 0 gold.

So I will not put up with "well I can't afford ESO+" as a reason to leave trash in nodes or chests. I've never left anything behind, with less bag space and fewer options, and it never seemed a burden. This game is rated M, you know, for adults.

I open everything and empty everything.

    There's no telling what's inside.

And I use everything: keep the crafting materials in my ESO+ crafting bag, deconstruct everything I find, use or sell the recipes and the maps, put the furnishings into my house(s).

I absolutely love the chests and safeboxes and can't walk past one, no matter what the level is.

Guess some people have just "trashing on the ground cause CBA" attitude. Wasting other people time.

Unless I am only getting rid of one or two items I have found it more efficient to mark the items as junk then perform a bulk delete from the junk panel.

I take all or nothing from Thieves Troves. If there's nothing in there I want, I don't even take the gold, because that's a **** move. Chests, I always take everything.

I'm also a loot all or loot nothing person. I figure if I leave it all, it will put the next person who finds it in no worse a situation than if they found it themselves, and it may even save them time unlocking it.

I have auto loot on, but I personally don't feel entitled to other people looting the same as me. It doesn't hurt me to get a resin with no Corn Flower or a green rubedite axe only. It's free stuff.

i tend to leave simple and intermediate chests alone. for new/low leveled players. I will usually only bother with advanced or master chests, but i loot them, i take everything. so that someone doesn't get their hopes up only to get trash.

...do you leave the chest or safebox if it's one of the lower leveled ones (by this I mean leaving the container completely untouched)? From my experience I tend to get rarer items like the Telvanni paintings from Intermediate and above chests. I'm hearing that the more sought-after purples are to be found in the higher leveled safeboxes, as well. Is this true, or would I still stand a chance of getting a purple praxis from a low level safebox?

I never really get anything worthwhile...also, if I open an Advanced or Master container and I take nothing from it (assuming its a motif or something I'm not interested in) does that leave the items for the next player who might want them, or is it better that I just go ahead and loot the entire thing? Again, this is if I take nothing whatsoever from the container after opening it.

I got a sharpened Burning Spell Weave inferno staff out of a simple chest. Open all the chests, and take everything in them. (please don't leave partially looted chests, they don't respawn)

As others have pointed out over and over in the last several years, yes, they do respawn on about a 10 minute timer even if only partially looted. The partial looted one despawns, and a respawn happens at another node generally.

I generally take everything if I possibly can. Every now and then I accidentally run out of inventory space and have to leave something behind.

That being said, I'm perfectly happy to clear out the remaining contents from a previously opened chest that someone else left behind. Even if it's just a single crafting material. Free is free, and I have the craft bag, so I'm happy to have it. My time is valuable, but not so valuable that I can't spare the two seconds to open, grab, and move on. I've even occasionally picked up paintings or other things that I really wanted in that way.

If you open a chest and leave loot, it stays your level. A level 30 leaving loot means a CP160 finding the partially looted chest won't find loot their level, but level 30. So saying partially looting doesn't hurt or hinder anyone isn't true.

    I loot everything.
I decon everything, so I have a lovely stack of green and blue and even purple crafting materials. It's also great for leveling a crafter. I sell whatever can't be deconned and the rest goes into my crafter's bag.
I've come across some lovely paintings and such, so I'm always on the lookout for containers of all sorts.

You can also get some leads from treasure chests, safeboxes and thieves troves

I actually had that happen last night. I was playing one of my low level characters and someone left a non-set ring and piece of armor in the chest. Since this character only gets dropped gear until they level, the CP160 items left in the chest were a bit of a disappointment , but it was fine.

I only leave treasure maps in a chest if I have one in my inventory and something is attacking me so leisurely finding and destroying map won't work.

This one loots everything. Legerdomain 20 takes a lot of stuff to get, all the mats get laundered, all the crap gets sold. Fargrave is nice, lots to take from stupid daedra.

This one is just sad that the game doesn't have an achievement for stealing 1000 sweetrolls

A partially looted chest will not respawn as far as I know. And even if they do, it takes way, way longer than just looting a chest completely so the respawn timer begins immediately rather than 10-30 minutes after someone took the nice items out of the chest.

I will open all of them, mostly because not all my toons have legerdemain maxed but partly because I just really enjoy picking locks. And full disclosure, that's why I'm annoyed when someone leaves a partially looted chest. The disappointment of anticipating that very satisfying click and finding that I ran over there for nothing makes me irritated. I've found partially looted chests with decent stuff in them before and I STILL felt let down that I didn't get to open it, so it's not even about the loot.

I've come across enough partially looted chests in my travels that I don't need to read anything more about how it works. If a partially looted chest even respawns at all, it takes too long to justify leaving the chest partially looted. Please do not leave chests partially looted as it hoses the next person who comes along.

Maybe they should make it so once a chest is unlocked and opened it disappears after a minute, regardless if anything is left in it or not.
