They are. The only people who need to be concerned with meta are people going for extreme world 1st competitions. I accept that for those few players (less than 1% of the population), that behavior is actually enjoyment for them.

For the vast majority of players however, having almost any set that is keyed to your build fully golded will NOT be holding your group back in any meaningful way, so this is just silliness.

The difference in DPS between a "meta" set and a "pretty good" set is generally less than 10%.

Meanwhile the difference between a person with a 100ms or less ping vs a 300ms or more ping alone can be greater than that, and the difference between the average person who just plays without reading any guides or practicing vs. someone who knows fights and a basic rotation for their class and is willing to work as a team is closer to 30% or more.

Meta chasing by non-meta players is a form of self punishment by setting unrealistic goals for the content they engage in. It ends up sabotaging their enjoyment of the sort of content they would naturally seek and burns them out chasing a form of "keeping up with the Jones'" in their leisure time.

As if we don't see enough of that in our lives as it is.

The old saying "stop and smell the roses" would seem to apply. If people spent more time doing what THEY find enjoyable and less time worrying about what some internet meme personality TELLS them they should find enjoyable, there would be a lot more enjoyment in the world, and a lot less people would burn out on games doing things they hate because they "have to."

Seems like a problem only the 1% have with leaderboard chasing, my guild you can run whatever you like as long as its functional.

I'm in a trifecta prog and on one boss I'm front barring Bahsei, backbarring BSW, with kilt and Ilambris, and as of last night was #10 on DPS leaderboards for that boss with a 168K parse.

Meta is boss specific and trial specific. The OP seems oddly hostile.

The OP is the usual watches too many videos/reads too many articles and doesn't play enough game. This forum is full of them. Too many people paying heed to builds that are built for etching out every last point for leaderboard scores, when in reality most don't even go after leaderboard scores.

That mentality has always baffled me. People in game banging on about it and they're never even on the leaderboards. any leaderboard. But they must have the new crazy or they're hobbling their Fungal Grotto runs.
