Where are people getting Guild Mage followers?

I've seen this more and more in recent days, and I have found ZERO topics or information online from what I can tell.

People are running around with a 'Guild Mage' wearing a green-ish robe. All of these seem to have the same appearance.

Can someone please tell me where I can get such a follower. I don't care if there are spoilers in a future questline

It's one of the Mage Guild quests. Don't worry, your time will come!

In Cyrodil? They come from Mercenary Contract vendor.

    Within; Without.

I somehow acquired a wasp as a follower yesterday which stayed with me for quite a while helping me fight until it died in a fight.

No idea where i got it from ...

Ah - saw a group of "guild mages" in a dungeon tonight and wondered where they came from, then saw them following some players. My friends and I thought it was part of the quest we were on and that somehow we had missed this part of it so we all ran back out of the dungeon to check but of course the quest didn't come with any "guild mage" companions. :\

It might also be a quest follower. When a a named NPC accompanies you and you see other people doing the same quest, their follower appears as a generic NPC: a Bosmer Ranger, a Guild Mage. After all, you don't want a dozen Abnur Tharns running around. :) That's actually the quest when I saw Guild Mages, I think. 25 level MQ.

The guild mage's are quest followers, only have them for the one quest and that's it.

@SirAndy -- The wasp follower is something you get from fighting yellow wasps, which lay their eggs on you....when you kill the mother wasp, the baby hatches and follows you around for a bit until it dies.

It's usually the yellow wasps that use a strong attack or something like it and it plants an egg on your back, if you kill the wasp before the egg hatches, the baby wasp will think you're its mother ;D

If you're not talking about Cyrodiil, it's most likely just from a mage guild quest.

ON EP side in the last dungeon in Deshaan?
if so it was probably a renamed main character you him see as guild mage instead of the character's name.

I had one of those, too. It was in the Davon's Watch zone. A Young Wasp followed me around eagerly, I couldn't attack him and he'd attack anything I did. Very strange. This was a while back when it was in early access so I just figured it was a bugged quest or a glitched NPC/monster.

Probably spoiler protection, as well. We didn't know what was going on our first time through, but the story would have been spoiled if we could have seen the specific NPCs following people, heheh.

...seriously, someone told me that once here. The things people will do to win their internet arguments!
