Stun from sneak rules

Was digging my Nb out again and it seems to have changed. What are the rules now? And, um, what's actually lhappening in practice/working ....

I think the relevant update is U30 but may be wrong. The patch ntoes state "Fixed an issue where the guaranteed Critical Strike and bonus damage from attacks made while hidden in crouch would fail on many attacks. It will now properly grant a guaranteed Critical Strike on your next Direct Damage attack, deal 46% bonus damage if a Ranged attack (now Magical and Martial, rather than only Martial), 275% bonus damage if a Melee attack (Magical and Martial, rather than only Martial), and Stun the target on Martial or Magical melee attacks."

- Does that still apply against players in pvp?

- And what abilities actually count here? Surprise attack obv will but I was testing stampede vs ambush on mobs. Stampede does not appear to stun, so I thought, ok maybe its not melee (22 m range) - but ambush does. At least on overland mobs...

If there's a simple summary of this somewhere do point me to it. otherwise, any advice welcome....

    Yes and no.

    All stealth attacks will crit as usual, but the bonus damage only applies to pve. Stealth attacks haven't had bonus damage applied to players in a very long time. Somewhere around One Tamriel bonus damage was removed against players.

    Now for the stun, this is a recent tweak that should be mentioned. Previously magical attacks didn't'/couldn't stun unless they themselves had a stun mechanic. However, heavy and light staff attack COULD stun, but no longer do.

    And finally a change that happened 3 or so patches ago was, Bow attacks lost their ability to stun from stealth. However if the ability itself has a CC component it will still work.

    Yeah that start making more sense. I noticed my magblae getting stuns too.

    Still not sure though why Ambush appears to stun (on my stamblade) but stampede doesn't. They're both 22 meter range attacks, and both gap closers. I couldn't see anythign in the passives or am I missing something?

    Any close range attack if target not in battle

    Ambush stuns because it doesn't drop stealth upon activation, stealth drops when it does damage. It's made to synergise with stealth gameplay.

    "Flash through the shadows"- Ie, remain in stealth (note: must be in stealth for it to stun, not invisibility)

    All other gap closers will drop stealth immediately upon activation before travel. Even if you are 5m away. Thus those will not stun.

    With all that said, Lotus Fan and Ambush are quite lackluster and there are usually better abilities to use.

    However if you have a fantastic ping to the game, there are some really creative combos that can be done utilizing ambush's mechanics.

    Thanks again, that actually... makes sense. I was slightly wracking my brain but that has to be it. The mudcrabs of Rawl Kha are grateful to you. I can now leave them in peace ...
