Jewelry Plating

Today, I farmed the hell out of craglorn & wrothgar an refined nearly 700 units of raw materials. You know just how many chromium grains I got? Zero...Zip...Zilch...NADA. And, I'm not the only one. Folks in the clans I belong to just destroy their jewelry master crafting writs because they're too expensive to fulfill and the return simply doesn't justify the expense. Just Just another ZOS screw-up.

I get most of my Chromium Grains from Rank 5 crafting writ boxes on 18 characters. The rate is about 1 out of 4, sometimes you get 2 Grains, and rarely you get a full Chromium Plating.

I have refined 150 raws and got 3 Chromium Grains. The RNG Pendulum swings both ways.

And, 700 is not a serious amount of Farming in a Doubling Event.

There is hundreds of unused Jewelry crafting writs. It is just too expensive to buy the ingredients on guild stores and you never receive any in the world and very rarely in writs, so no one actually does them. with the few ingredients i get from refining, it is not enough to even improve gear.Maybe after years i will have enough for gear, but too busy to constantly harvest.

I still do blue jewelry writs unless it's for a trait that costs too much like triune. I will stop doing any jewelry writs once I get to 100 writs completed.

What's kind of funny though is that I have no problem selling purple or gold grains or plates. So somebody is using them for something. Maybe just upgrading their own jewelry.

Blue ones are mostly worth it,except the triune ones.Purple ones over 200 vouchers are worth it kinda,if you need voucher items, and gold ones aout 600+ are worth doing. To get chromium grains, you gotta really max out JC and put points into the extraction passive.Out of 700 you should get 1 or 2.Sometimes you get nothing for a few stacks, then will get a few in 100,it's called RNG.

I think the people that do Jewelry Writs are outfitting a House with Attunable Stations. Because after about 20 of them, you will have bought everything else from the Writ Vendors.

Heck, I bought everything from the Vendors from doing a few events worth of Master Writs for Clothing, Wood and Metal.

I get FAR more zircon and chromium than I do iridium. Iridium for me is less than .1 of a percent of all the rest. It takes me 3 weeks to a month to get ONE iridium plating - in which same span of time I have 3 or 4 each of zircon and chromium.

    RNG is a total "femdog".

Wow! Wish my rng would fall like that. I get tern and iridium a lot. Zircon drops pretty regular. Chromium is more rare. I seem to get more chromium from daily writ rewards than refining.

Welcome to the past 3 years! We hope you enjoy your stay. :) I know the rest of us have. /jk

Seriously, though, RNG is a fickle beast at best, but the worst part of Jewelry crafting is that the raw trait mats are just dust that needs to be refined like the basic raw mats, and deconning items only gives you a chance at recovery a piece of dust instead of a whole trait mat.

The master writs were adjusted a while back to make them less painfully expensive by knocking the writs down a level-- i.e., instead of gold and purple writs we now get purple and blue writs. This was great at first, but the longterm outcome is that Iridium is now in scarce supply and costs a lot more from guild traders, while personal supplies of Zircon and Chromium are slowly piling up.

But they did that already, it used to be as much as other crafts when it was first introduced.

It's not about how many vouchers particular writ provides, but value per voucher.

In fact, it is even more beneficial to do few writs with smaller total voucher reward, but same voucher/gold cost ratio, as you get xp and gold reward of Rolis per writ turned it.

With this said, there are absolutely no jewelry writs that are worth doing for profit. Some blues and purples with cheap traits (all default traits and some "advanced", but not i.e. infused or triune) can be acceptable for personal voucher use, but you can never profit from these.

Personally, I don't sell jewelry upgrade/trait mats and not selling voucher stuff either, so I am doing those blues and purples that are on a lower end of voucher/gold ratio, just because I play a lot and have more mats than I can use, and every quick additional XP towards cp3600 is welcome :) But these are absolutely not worth doing otherwise.

There is also a major bug right now that makes your passives randomly fall off. Personally, I am not refining anything until the bug is fixed since I can’t be sure the extraction bonus passives are in effect.

There is a 5% chance of any gold mat dropping from refining with max passives (not including CP boosts).

700 equals 70 chances at a gold mat. If it was straight stats you would have gotten 3.5 grains from that.

You didn’t but that’s still within the standard distribution range of returns with RNG.

ZOS didn’t screw up. The odds just aren’t in your favor.

And IMO never decon gold jewelry unless you have all the copies you need or they’re perfected pieces from any trial except Cloudrest.

The passives bug being publicized here and acknowledged by the devs on stream isn’t random — it’s tied to synergies like Combustion and reportedly also the one from the trial dummy. Combat logs clearly show certain passives fading after those synergy effects. It isn’t that people are walking around losing passives left and right out of the blue. It may only be until later that you notice what’s missing, but it is triggered by particular circumstances.

It's the highest end mat for jewelry and the most expensive, it shouldn't come in amounts to make it worth nothing and be easy to get. Endgame is meant to be a grind and to cost in-game currency and time.

I only do one full set of writs per day. Adventuring generates quite a few nodes farmed and rings to grind up. I base what master writs I do based upon the current level of my current stock. I frequently destroy master jewelry writs if the plating/trait material is not in line with my stock. That said, they are still generally my most profitable master writs in terms of building up writ vouchers to help feed attunable tables to my guild every quarter.

What grinds my gears is ZOS has intentionally made the actual gameplay as casual friendly as possible while leaving the farming/crafting so hardcore it requires at least 20 hours a week to obtain enough mats to gold out a full set once a month.

Very n00b question but... can Chromium grains be found from regular daily jewelry crafting writs?

Or does it have to be the master Jewelry writs for vouchers?

I average about 5-7 chromium grains a day across two accounts both megaservers, doing daily writs on 2-3 characters each account. Which is why I have 15-20 platings on both accounts both servers.

And I never sell mats of any kind.... I'm a pack rat.

You are guaranteed a grain or plating from daily jewelry writs. Chromium grains drop about 25% of the time from tier 5 daily writs.

Master writs only consume mats, never grant them. They give writ vouchers and XP as a reward.
