Multi-threaded rendering working great!

I was pretty sceptical at first since I read that the option was supposed to really work for people in CPU bound situations, however, it has significantly increased my performance!

I have a pretty high-end setup: 5950x, 32GB 3600 MHz RAM, the game is on a SSD that gets 5000MB/s Read with 4400MB/s write, and an RTX 3080.

I have at least double the performance now. All my settings maxed out and run ESO at 2560x1440; in highly congested areas I was only getting 40-60 fps, now I get 100+ frequently staying at my cap of 144 (again in a congested area like the crafting area in Alinor or Vulkhel Guard, in pretty much every other area I'm at my cap). This is with about 20 addons, Daybreak, and reShade as well.

I just wanted to say thanks because the performance was one of the things that really bothered me about ESO and it has now been fixed (for me at least)!

Has multi-threaded rendering worked out for anyone else? What were your specs and gains? Does it cause any issues with anything that you've seen?

I was deconstructing gear when I remembered this. Was getting 65-70fps while stood there. Enabled the switch, relogged and capped at 100fps. Amazing work!

Been back to a few congested areas, no longer hitting dips of 40fps but getting a static 100. Very happy indeed.

For me it does appear to work fine on my old potato. Have not done any measures but got no excessive fanning or instability this far and (by test of one Alik'r dolmen) I seem to have pretty smooth fps.

    1. Close the game.
    2. Go to usersettings.txt, right click and properties. Make sure read only is not ticked.
    3. Start the game
    4. Change the setting, close the game using the game interface.
    5. Do not alt-f4 or otherwise force the game to close or the settings file will not write your new settings to the file properly.

I was testing Multi-threaded rendering yesterday in Cyrodiil and the results are more than awesome. It is probably one of the best improvement that was done to ESO. Definitely best thing that was added this year.

Even during extremely large fights, lowest FPS I got was around 35 - 38. Never dropped below 30. And that was during "BIG" fights, where there are 3 factions stacked at one keep. You know, billions of AOEs, Particle effects, server lag, slow-motion bug and yet still, frames did not dropped below 30.

^ That is insane. 99% of times my frames were at stable 60 FPS. During smaller or bigger fights too. Those only dropped when there was an extremely large fight going on.

Before that, in a situation like this I got 10 - 15 FPS after being for while in a big fight (no matter at what graphics settings).

But now it is basically like comparing a day to night. With Multi-threaded rendering & FPS lock on, I get pretty much constant 60 frames (I have 60 hz display anyway) and my PC runs more or less the same when it comes to fans & temp. I tried running Multi-threaded rendering with V-sync disabled and while it was giving me more frames, my PC was running super loud & hot.

    My specs: i7-4790 ; 16 Gig Ram ; GTX 980
^ It is more or less high - end PC back from 2014 - 2015, more or less when ESO launched.

For anyone else with this problem where the game won't let you keep the setting turned on after you restart, you can also add it manually to your usersettings.txt (found in Documents --> Elder Scrolls Online --> live).

Just copy/paste SET RENDER_THREAD "1" to the bottom of the file, save and close. Should be enabled in your game now
