Why in hell would you play on the NA servers in the first place? If the maintenance is at 8am in NA, it's between 8pm and 10pm in Australia...
If you're on the EU servers, it would only be between 1pm to 3pm in Australia...
Of course right now both servers are in NA but eventually, it will be way better in EU no?
To give an actual answer to your question, the majority of us purchased (or pre-purchased) the game and had to elect a server on installation prior to ZOS releasing their maintenance times. When given only a choice of two, Aussies will generally choose a US server over a European server as ping consistency seems to be better.
Now that we've invested character time on the US server, it's not simply an easy answer to swap to the European server as, being that characters cannot be transferred, we will be starting from scratch. Some people may not be keen to do that.
The European client could be run as well as the US, but some people may not have that much capacity on their hard drives to accommodate that.
Personally, if their maintenance is only going to be 1.5 to 2 hours, then that's pretty palatable.NA Mega-server

Can you explain to me why Oceanic lag more on a EU server compared to NA when the distance is relatively the same (assuming the servers are located to the places listed above).
I'd have to assume NA consists of 2 sets of servers to cover West and East but those are all assumptions.0 -

I know that Australia has a pretty archaic internet infrastructure compared to most other places! And the meagre hope that we had of a vastly improved infrastructure is quickly becoming bogged down (don't you love politics)!NA Mega-server

THINK about this, we might not be a big chunk of your subs but why wouldnt you plan this mid week when all times zones are generally on a working week and gotos bed early this came through at 10pm which is pretty ***. anyway Ill tell you now me and thousands other will most likely not SUBSCRIBE to TESO if this i'snt changed, remember WILDSTAR, ARCHAGE online are both coming out soon and this could smash your other half of the worlds timezone in subs.0 -
jorill✭✭Aussies players will always get the shaft im sorry but thats the way it is due to population numbers. I do agree maint should be during the week and not on a friday.
Also you wont get an aussie server in almost all mmo's except WoW due to pop numbers. It might be able to support it at first but as people leave those servers turn into a ghost town1 -

Don't want oceanic servers but a little consideration wouldn't go wrong. During the working week, this is the norm.

I would pay money to see how the thread would've done had the shoe been on the other foot so to speak
All we can do now is hope that ZOS realise the error they have made and adjust their maintenance window out of such a peak period for their oceanic customers.
It's not like we're talking about Blizzard here, I'm sure they'll understand and do the right thing.3 -

Clearly I read the thread, and the only person who would look silly in this is a person who forgets what they started the thread on.
I will leave if its Fri and Sun in our prime time every week, why pay for 7 days and effectively only get 5 days, seems silly to me, if it continues until my sub runs out i just will not renew, its not worth it.

Starting next week Thursday, we have updated the maintenance times for the North American megaserver of The Elder Scrolls Online.
This will allow our fans in the Far East and Oceania to enjoy their Friday nights in ESO. The European maintenance windows remain unchanged.
The updated maintenance times are:
North American Megaserver
Mondays at 8:00am EDT (12pm GMT)
Thursdays at 8:00am EDT (12pm GMT)
European Megaserver
Tuesdays at 6:00am CEST (5:00am BST)

The problem of using GDP by country is that it is broad measure. It's basically the total dollar value of all of the goods and services a country produces in a year. It would provide a more useful measure if it looked at income and consumption rather than just production.
It's actually quite challenging to truly process a country's economy, it's not something you can summarise and make a decision on from one wiki page. If you compare GDP(PPP) by country to GDP(PPP) per capita to GDP(Nominal) per capita you will find quite different results.
