What's your behavior toward other players?

I'm really interested about the outcome of this poll. It's anonymous so that everybody can feel free to answer honestly without being embarrassed.

What I mean with "behavior" is for example: do you run over players on your way or do you go around them? Do you mount//dismount straight at door, without caring to go a few steps away? Do you back up if someone arrives at a pant/tree/ore node/chest before you or do you speed up to take it under his/her nose? Do you turn off your pets when at vendors/crafting stations/... or not? And so on...

I believe that there are 3 main categories: those who fully care, those who care but not all the time and/or not for everything, those who just go straight forward not caring.

I've put average - I don't run around players, and don't get off my mount until I get to my destination, but I don't take nodes/chests that I can see people are running to or are fighting enemies near by.

I help out with various content, sometimes give away hundreds of thousands in resources, motifs, free crafting plus upgrades with gold enchanting. Occasional I give away a few 100 thousand in chat doing trivia. Flipside, sometimes I'm rude, I won't deal with jerks and I can trade insults even though I know it's wrong. Yep, basically an average but caring dummy.

I sometimes forget to put Baron Jangleplume away, and I am that person that will yeet themselves inside a building on horseback if I can. I am also that person that sits at guild vendors on their mount.

    But.

I try not to run through people if it can be avoided. It's uncomfortable for us both!

I'm courteous about nodes, chests, sacks. I'll sometimes try to point them out to low level players if they run by them, though sometimes they act like I'm a crazy person just hurling fireballs at them. 🤣

I look around compulsively before I engage bosses because I realize I'm a tactical nuke and someone may need to get a hit in. Relatedly, I don't PUG often, but I'm easy and I'll go at whatever pace everyone else wants, and I try to let inexperienced tanks do their pulls and stuff.

And I'm generally pacifistic toward lone players in Cyro or IC, unless they engage me first.

I don't knowingly take nodes someone else was about to claim, except once during the Clockwork City event because I'd literally spent 40 minutes trying to finish a daily collecting nodes and repeatedly had them stolen from under me so by that point I was done trying to be nice and just wanted to finish it and leave as soon as possible. (Now I avoid those dailies if I can.)

I also aim to unsummon my warden's bear when I get into towns, but that's because it annoys me too. My sorcerer doesn't use pets at all because they're annoying even during combat (especially the endlessly flapping twilight). But sometimes I forget until I actually see the bear, especially since I was probably mounted coming into town so it would have been hidden and often reappears off-camera.

The bit about running through people and dismounting away from doorways surprises me though because I wouldn't have thought anyone would care if another player is doing that. Even if you're role-playing 2 minutes in any city will require ignoring or excusing all kinds of random things other players will be doing which are a lot more obvious and distracting than dismounting close to a door. Sometimes I'll do it, sometimes I won't but I've always thought of it as something I do for my own immersion, not anyone else's. So it depends on whether I'm in the mood for that or if I just want to get to my destination quickly.

I was fishing a few days back and someone thought it would be fun to keep jumping on the fishing hole which stopped me being able to click it again. I took a few screencaps of this but decided I'll just ignore them and they will get bored and move on which they did eventually.

Yes, usually, in most cases, not "feeding" back is the best way to go on with that. If bored due to no reaction, they stop. Same in chats.

A few days ago someone pulled a mob to me while I was picking a chest then proceeded to loot it, leaving only junk behind. It wasn't even a Master chest or anything, so I can only imagine they were doing it to be an a**.

Personally, I try to be considerate when I can - letting people have nodes they saw ahead of me, waiting a few seconds before killing a delve boss if they're around, no pets in crafting areas/banks etc - but sometimes I might be in a hurry, or stressed, or frustrated about something or it plain slips my mind, and I just want to get stuff done. I've never gone out of my way to troll/inconvenience people though.

I'd say average, I don't look out for people around for every action I do but if I notice that someone is first to something, or need to get a hit or anything I'd be obviously stopping. Dungeon runs I'm just behind the group 90% of times so they'll be able to do what they want despite being 1.7k cp, if the group trying to follow me because of that so I'm dealing with all the stuff I'm also fine with that. Overall kinda thinking reactively and not just have formulas of how to behave no matter what.

But things like dismount for no obvious reason or helping really annoying people isn't my cup of tea.

I would say average. I'm not overly conscientious about other player's "space" but I also won't idle directly in front of a high traffic stall/npc, and I make an effort not to interfere with other's activities.

Do you run over players on your way or do you go around them?

I will dodge around (or over) other players if it's sparsely populated, but there's like 15 hanging around smith in Vivec, I'm not going around them.

Do you mount//dismount straight at door, without caring to go a few steps away?

I had no idea this was a thing that annoyed people, I honestly don't see why it would. When entering I generally will block-dismount a short distance away and sheath my weapon while running, though that's just for time's sake.

Do you back up if someone arrives at a pant/tree/ore node/chest before you or do you speed up to take it under his/her nose?

No, at least, I will never run ahead of another toon that is clearly slower than mine. Sometimes though it is a legit race for that corn flower, and even then, I will only do so if the other toon has more shinies than I do.

Do you turn off your pets when at vendors/crafting stations?

If I played sorc or warden, I would, definitely.

It depends. I try my best to be kind to other players but being treated poorly in ESO, especially by veteran players has left me a bit bitter. It can be hard to not give in and end up like them.

Every resource node, chest and quest item is a race to get there first but I come off second best more often than not. The one thing I don’t do is take a chest if someone else is fighting a foe for it... unless I want to. I try to run through players’ characters and mounts because it’s dumb/lazy that you can. I always turn off my pets when not in or expecting combat and I don’t have the same pets on front and back bars so it’s easy to turn them off. My own pets annoy me just as much as they annoy anyone else.

We all need basic courtesy, like not sniping a node, or sitting a bear on a writ box.

If there are people out there getting upset about others riding right up to a door before dismounting, that's some next level pettiness. Almost impressive.

I think this is an interesting question, and for over a year I'd occasionally thought of posting a similar question with a sort of click-baity title of "Do you avoid other players?" :)

In general, I try to avoid, or veer around, other players as I'm going about my business in the game. Part of this is because we need to veer around NPCs anyway, since they're "solid," and it isn't always easy to tell the NPCs from the players in locations that are heavily congested. Another part of it is that I have a nagging concern that simply running around "through" all of the other players in the game world might carry over into an attitude or habit of simply "barging through" people in the real world. But it's very difficult to avoid other players all the time, so I do simply barge through them at times, either for convenience or because I can't help it.

As far as sharing the game world's resources with other players, I definitely try to be considerate and friendly about that. If I'm headed for a node or chest and then notice that someone else is heading for the same node or chest, I'll generally break off and go on my way, because there will be other nodes and chests. And if I don't notice the other player, or if I race past them on my way somewhere else and then veer toward a node or chest that I suddenly spot, only to be in the process of farming the node or picking the lock when they suddenly appear beside me, I usually feel bad. In fact, sometimes I'll actually turn and run off without actually taking anything at all from the node or chest, so they can have it. But other times I just take it, since its contents will largely be "set in stone" once I've touched it and the other player's character might be a lower level than mine.

Edit: Sorry, I hit "post" when I meant to hit "return."

When I'm questing in the overland game world, inside a building or natural location (mine, delve, etc.), or anywhere there's a boss or other named NPC who must be killed for some quest, if I happen to notice another player then I'll try to hold off on killing the boss or NPC until the other player has had a chance to get some hits in, too. Or if I see them already engaging the boss or NPC I might veer off and keep well away from their fight (so I don't get quest credit for the kill without actually doing anything) and wait for the boss or NPC to respawn after the other player has moved on-- except I might also run in and join them in killing the boss or NPC. It might depend on different factors, such as how much time I've got to finish the quest or delve, how strong the boss is, how far along the other player is in their fight, how well it looks like the fight is going for them, etc.

I think that most people get rid of pets (cause add-on) and won't steal chests/nodes/whatever if you are fighting a mob.

The other staff mentioned are just silly though, not going through people? lots of times I got hide players active so I can't even see them, not to mention that when you are at vivec and you need bank/crafting station it is impossible to approach without "running over someone".
Not riding up to doors? That one is also silly, why would you care if someone else rides up to the door? It doesn't affect your gameplay.

And I'm generally pacifistic toward lone players in Cyro or IC, unless they engage me first.

I have an issue that I want to fight solo players, but since we are both not engaging solo players I have hard time conveying I want a fight, so I end up just walking away :(

I think running up real fast and bashing them in the face will do the trick. Pretty clear message but does minimal damage so they have a chance to recover and run away. If you can't catch them to hit them in the face, well, that answers that. 🤣 Tbh attacking someone in Cyro or IC doesn't make you evil, I'm just a big ole softie.

I'm generally trying to be nice and helpful to everyone. However, recognizing other peoples intentions isn't my best skill, so it's likely that sometimes I think I'm helping someone, but in reality they are annoyed by me.
E.g. when someone with noticably lower dps than me is fighting a boss and I help kill it, I had people thank me for my help but others complained that I took away their fun fighting a challenging boss.

Most people I met are nice but some experiences left me a bit sceptical so I mostly avoid a lot of social stuff nowadays in game.
Like the one time a guy from my friendlist asked me for help to find the skyshard in a delve,so I ported on him and took my time to run around with him, killing mobs and looking for the shard because I didn't remember myself where it was exactly in what floor.I also told the person that I don't remember exactly but I will do my best to help.
After 5 minutes the person gave up and left,I insisted in keep on looking for it because I promised to help so I did run around on my own till I found it finally.
I did whisper the guy and told him I found it he can port back to me I can show him the way now, well instead of that he started insulting me as toxic elitist who does not want to help lower level players (the guy was cp500+ so not really low level in any way) and result was I waisted 15 minutes of my time trying to help and as thank you I got insulted.

So yea,I am specially careful now if someone asks me to show the way to anything because content I did complete long time ago I forget easly.

I play ESO to spend time with my elf, not real humans so I solo as much as I can and generally try to ignore that there are other players in the game - preferring to think of them as NPCs. When I do encounter other players though, I am always courteous. Backing away from harvest nodes if others are going for them, paying attention if others are approaching delve/public dungeon bosses at the same time and even waiting a few moments for someone behind me, dismissing summons in town, no spamming skills near others, slotting cherry blossoms instead of mud balls, etc.

If I see someone running towards me on foot or mount I will try to steer out of their way. I know it may sound silly but it's not about being nice, it's more for immersion for both myself and the other player.

I remember in another game I used to play, one of my friend's would constantly moan to me how she hated standing on the same spot as other players when banking or fishing lol. I would always laugh at her but now I sort of get it.

What an interesting poll! I fall into the same boat as most of the other responders so far. My warden puts his bear away until I'm in a dungeon, at home, etc. I don't node snipe and even leave the area if it looks like someone else is trying to farm there, and the same with thieving routes. I always think "that could be a guildie of mine, I'll let them have the space". I always give people space and try not to ride my mount through cities, and I'll never sit mounted on top of a banker or guild trader. If I see another person in a delve or public dungeon I wait to pull the boss until they're with me, and even if I haven't seen someone, I'll usually just sit in block for a bit when the boss is in execute in case someone comes along (it's happened a few times).

The main reason why I wouldn't call myself fully considerate is that I love to fly around bunny-hopping on my mounts, especially my camel and senche-raht. Once I was going to dig up a treasure map on the Gold Coast and flew off some rocks at max speed... right into someone roleplaying sneaking up to attack some wolves. I still feel bad about that, but I also still do it :D

II don´t run over/through other player´s or LA them. I handover chets and nodes to low levels if they aim for same node.

I never interfere, when low levels are in combat. Do I see they are in trouble on low health I can throw a heal, max. Am I getting attacked by a WB I would consider attacking back.

Im never on mount in craftting areas. I don´t use pets.
