Does stuhn's kick in on the first surprise attack used by a nightblade? or only on the damage after?

title says it all. I'm wondering when Stuhn's actually starts working. If it's incorporated into the dmg of the first surprise attack, it would be way stronger than if it only kicked in after the first surprise attack

It's after. When you damage to an enemy that is off balance. It's a great set can't really recommend it enough👍

Or dizzying swing on non nb classes.
You can also use toppling charge (mag morph) on a templar.
