Acting like the ranged aspect is a handicap is kind of silly. People use endless hail in a melee rotation but suddenly the “range” is confusing on this one?

definitely doesn't need a cast time.

There is a difference between a ground AOE being ranged, and a spammable being ranged particularly when there is a channel that waste a cast if you would be playing at range.

Of course there is. I’m talking about people with melee builds up close. We use range attacks all the time up close. It’s not confusing. You just cast like any rotation.

I did slot it for poops and giggles one day.
Would not even make much sense since I am frontbarring stuhns and I swapped dizzy to poop rock. Since we were running in a duo with a stamden I could proc stuhn anyway since I am running dots and am responsible for major breach.
At first I was like "dude, the damage ticks are ***". It only hits like 2.5-3.5k. But then I noticed how fluently it weaves with light attacks compared to dizzy. I noticed that noone is trying to actively block/dodge it unlike dizzying swing. Also It increases the dots by quite a bit! Overall the damage increased by a lot.
And now the most important thing. The stun comes at the exact righ moment. I AM NOT KIDDING. It felt like a magdk with fossilize just before the leap. Poo rock does that.
Cons: not as effective as dizzy for quick "turn and burns", makes you a stam magdk. Requires running both dots for full effectiveness and I should switch stuhns for something else if I would run solo.
Also Bamboozles the heck out of experienced players, noone knows how to play against it, it looks like you are casting fragmented shield 😂

So ZoS themselves have established that certain ability categories are relegated to a certain damage standard. Single target melee abilities are designed to have higher tooltips(the rare exception being blast bones and shalks because DLC), while ranged or aoe abilities will hit for lower damage. This is why other stamina ranged spammables (i.e. cutting dive and venom skull) are rarely used because, in most scenarios, wrecking blow or rapid strikes will out perform them. Even when accounting for stagger and mountain's blessing, wrecking blow will out damage stonegiant.

*The sole exception to this rule is shrouded daggers, which requires one to have executioners blade*

But Stone Giant’s base damage is using single target melee damage standard.
The tooltip scaling is the exact same as NB’s Surprise Attack according to https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Special:EsoSkills

The point is Surprise attack is a lot better in many ways as a spam skill like smooth cast animation and good additional effect.
Point is dev team seems not want to make a stam morph of whip which has smooth cast animation and acceptable interaction with class passive.
The main issue is that earthen heart mag skill cost is still too high for stam build to proc passive and no smooth melee spam like surprise attack or whip.

Stone Giant would need a damage buff of ~20% and the cast time removed to be worth slotting over Dizzying Swing in PvP.

Its damage is actually pretty good as is, but I agree the whole animation locking thing needs to be removed. If it was just insta cast and not ranged it'd be perfect. I feel like if it had all that AND was 20% stronger it'd be too strong. It already has an 11-12k tooltip.

If the skill did not have the delay, the tooltips would make more sense.

Admittedly, stam dk isn't a class I have a lot of experience with these days. I have one, and I used to play it a lot when SnB damage was pretty good, but stopped after it was axed into the ground. I was looking at this stone giant ability (aka poo rock), and it actually seems pretty good on paper.

    - The initial hit does AOE damage
    - The fragments actually deal a nice bit of damage
    - The third cast stuns opponent
    - Each fragment applies a debuff that causes the target to take more damage
    - It's ranged
    - Thanks to the passives in that tree, your entire group gain minor brutality increasing your damage further, AND you generate 3 ultimate.

I can't think of any other class DD ability that has that amount of benefits. So my question is, why aren't people using it?

    Its clunky af af
Looks stupid, not to use more adequate but also harsher word
Stun on 3rd cast is laughable at best
If we talk PvP than no group benefit since I play solo.
If we talk PvE than no group benefit since pugs are mostly magicka and have no use for minor brutality

    Terrible skill.
    I wish it gets deleted
