Top DPS build for companion?

Has anyone actually tested which build does the most dps for companions? I can’t seem to find anything.

There are multiple builds online ranging from lightning staff/mages guild light armor versus all medium armor/bow build.

Assuming you’re in all purple aggressive gear, what build outperforms?

Best one I have found is 3 shattering (penetration) with the rest quickening (lower cooldown for using skills).

Companions being able to spam skills more seems, in my testing, superior to the 1-2% more dmg pr. piece with slow skill usuage.

It's not gonna be any mindblowingly amazing DPS.. But a little boost.

Worth the gold to squeeze in a couple more DPS Ks? You decide..

Depends on the content... because from what I've read previously... the ONLY content that actually utilizes resistance is VET dungeons and trials. So open world, delves, public dungeons, world bosses and normal group dungeons do not even need penetration.

Don't use light armor on a Destruction staff equipped DPS companion, their gear and skills work different than a players. The only passive benefits of light armor are for healing done and break free cooldown, use medium armor for the damage done passive.

And yes, even overland mobs have built in resistance. In my testing using a couple pieces of Shattering helps boost the damage of each hit, more so than even filling those slots with Aggressive.

I like this question, but even more than the information provided I was wondering what skills people are using in what order to get the best DPS 🙂

Funny how no one chimed in on that other thread to mention this. Yet even so, that means that overland enemies still only have an 18.2% mitigation if players had ZERO armor and that's not including the fact that every character without any armor has 700 pen; so that brings our enemy mitigation down to 8400 or 16.8% mitigation before any pen is added.

So sure, I can see how pen would be helpful for players... but at what cost? What are you LOSING in order to gain the extra pen? Crit, weap damage? In Group content I can see it being more useful... but in open world, delves, public dungeons... not really. As it is, even with only 700 pen... I'm cutting through enemies like butter.

For companions... as we're discussing here... sure I could see how it would be useful but how much more useful compared to full Aggressive or Quickened trait? I'm running all Quickened because I'd much rather have her be able to use her skills more often which would equate to more DPS when moving quickly between fights- as can happen when in delves and dungeons. However, pen seems like it would probably be more useful in longer fights where Companion is using their light attacks more frequently. I'm not an expert in numbers, but as of yet, I haven't seen anyone post a detailed BIS post, which seems strange given that Companions have been out for a month.

Besides the damage factor, with full quickened, Mirri can use her FEAR skill more frequently... which IMO is more useful than damage because it means enemies have little chance of doing damage to US while we are cutting them down. ;)
