Infinitely-respawning Jute exploiters

Soulless_God
Getting kinda sick of this- pretty sure it's borking the low level economy a bit, and funding gold sellers too. I keep running into bots (low level chars, names like ghslfdg or asefsdvd) sitting there apparently infinitely harvesting and respawning jute nodes. In one area they were on every possible jute spawn point, all within 30 seconds of each other, constantly farming jute after jute after jute.
- Took a fraps video of it, shown below.

Also seen this, reported too. Do they spawn the Jute (script o.e.), or does this happen due to a broken respawn timer?
  • JOHNHARDEE13_ESO
I came across this on my new alt in Stonefalls. The bot ran back and forth between two jute nodes. As a distraction, I spent a few minutes "stealing" his jute and leaving the poor farmer with nothing but worms to pick up :)

@Soulless_God I know this is unrelated, but would you mind sharing what mod you've got that gives you the bar/info in the top left of your screen? Bag space, gold, etc.

That's pretty funny. Good job. :p

Note sure if they're scripting it or taking advantage of a borked spawn timer. I thought it might be possible they're exploiting a set-spawn-order on all the jute in that particular area so each harvest forces one of the other points to spawn, but it seems to go too fast for that.

Yeah those ones you can interrupt easily, but these ones are so tightly scripted that most of the times you try to interrupt them you'll just get the "Someone is using this" message.

Something really needs to be done about this.

The bag mod is Smartbags- if you use Curse, it's available to download through there.

Awesome, I'll give it a peek. Thanks a bunch. :)

On topic: Those constantly spawning nodes should really be fixed >.> Wtf Zeni.

Logged back on just now- same nodes being exploited, but they've rotated out to new bot-characters either because of being reported, or to avoid bans. See attached screen

It could be that you're just in a separate phase after relogging, and the same nodes are broken in all the phases, thus being exploited by different bots.

I've encountered a few nodes that are bugged in every single phase in the Aldmeri zones. It wouldn't surprise me if the same is true for other zones.

That seems possible. The fact they're farming it up like this in every phase..imagine how much jute they must be generating/farming, and how much gold they must be making off it, even just vendoring?

While I agree that these bots are terrible, posting pictures or video of them showing names has been warned against. It is a violation of the no "Naming and Shaming" portion of the ToS and can get you suspended. Just some friendly advice... :)

And again I abhor the bots running rampant...

I can understand not naming and shaming players who're behaving badly..but why would naming/shaming blatant bots be a bad thing? It's not like they're people with a conscience, from their behaviour.

Another idea as to why these nodes are instantly respawning:

Perhaps there are always going to be at least a set number of nodes active per phase per zone.

Example: If there are potentially 100 jute spawn locations in a zone, the game would ensure that at least 50 of these are active at a time. If a node is harvested and the supply falls below the threshold, another node would systematically generated. This would keep the supply consistent regardless of how many people are in the zone and you wouldn't have to worry about too many people competing for items and the materials being 'over-farmed'.

Now imagine if you've got a bot at every single one of those node locations. As soon as one node is harvested, another will spawn elsewhere to maintain the balance. Except, it's going to be instantly harvested and force another node to spawn... the cycle would continue because they've got enough bots to keep the system on lock.

Like I said, just an idea. If the system works anything like this, it would explain how this issue has come about. And it would also really need to be fixed. >.>

@Soulless_God‌ Just pointing out the policy so you don't end up suspended...

ZOS forum mods have stated it repeatedly in many other video/screenshot bot complaint threads.

    I agree with you though!

Ah, got this one figured out now. :)

To keep us from suffering all Empty nodes when say.. 20 of us are harvesting in the same general area...

They set the nodes up in Groups, and coded a hard minimum of spawned nodes in any given group.

Eg (these Numbers are guesswork, but they demonstrate how it works)
    Each group has 20 nodes.
If any group has more than 5 Empty nodes, it forces a random one of the empty nodes to spawn immediately.

So all the exploiters had to do was figure out which nodes constitute a group.
Then park a bot at each of any 5 nodes in that group.

    Viola - endless spawning nodes.

Fix is simple. field randomize the group assignment. Network several groups, and have them (on a timer) randomly Swap nodes between them.

Then they'd have to have several Hundred bots parked at all the nodes to accomplish the same thing.

I found this also in Bangkorai with "everspawning" spidersilk and reported the bug and the bot.

Guess I'll try and blur out names in any further images/vids then. But it's ridiculous. I just moved to another part of the zone and found a whole pile more doing the same thing.

All the NEED to do is ban people that buy gold and all the bots and gold sellers will go away.
  • Soulless_God
Killed off one of the botters through mob aoe and looted the jute to see what would happen- the jute was still infinitely respawning. They need to do something about this to make it unexploitable.

Just came across a set of the constant respawning Jute - just remember to send in a bug report, Exploit, Game system, Interactable/Lockpicking - and a screenshot of the area.

This just makes me sure about the cause.
And the solution is pretty simple. They just need to randomize the node grouping every few hours so the bots (and we) can't figure out which to camp and force constant replacement.

It's not a bug per-se, just a side effect to the system used to keep us from finding empty fields of nothing to harvest because other people are in the area.
  • Soulless_God
Noticed as well, a lot of them respawn on the spot- it's likely the crews farming public-dungeon bosses are getting filled soulstones so these node-farming bots can res-on-spot if killed.

I've come across the same thing in Stonefalls, made a ticket since i felt it wasn't intended to respawn that fast. Bots and players just stand there farming almost instant respawns. The answer i got from support was not to farm those, since it sounded like an exploit.
    Greetings Adventurer!

Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online support team! In particular, thank you for taking the time to ask if this is legal. At this time, I recommend that you do not use this method. Please report these nodes as bugs with "/bug" in game. These sound very much like an exploit in the game and people farming them could be suspended or possibly banned.

Yeah there obviously must have been a pile of complaints- GM Kickingbot (yes, that's actually his awesome-as name) just came online and embarked on a 30 minute bot hunting spree, GM-porting to any player who whispered him identifying a bot.

Aaand the problem got worse- now there's players taking advantage of this exploit too, and trying to make themselves seem in the right by making up justification in zone chat

When will this bug be fixed? I'm getting pretty sick and tired of seeing it every few feet in the game. Always one farmer at each broken node
  • Soulless_God
Erch. Now people in zone chat are trying to justify the fact that they, as players, are taking advantage of the exploit. Trying to make it out as if they're in the right for farming it. And they laugh when I point out it's a bannable offense for exploiting this bug, and probably against the TOS/TOU
