Leveling up Scrying on alternate toons is mind numbing.

Started leveling up a second toon just to get the treasure chest passive so they are easier to see. Also doing it mostly in Shadowfen so I can try and get the harpoon lead at the same time. I had no idea all the leads you can get are green and blue if you've already gotten the purples in the zone on another toon. I'll never do it again. Just seems a huge oversight that Zos could make the rewards a little better than just green and blue leads once you've acquired the purple and yellows.

I get that you want to kill two birds with one stone but IMO you are making it worse for yourself but doing it this way.

Artaeum is a much smaller area and has no hostile encounters, which is why the majority of us level up the antiquities skill line there at least to lvl 7.

I 'spice it up' a bit if I happen to have purple leads just to break the monotony if it starts getting to me but after having done this many, many times on my alts at least for me the sanest option is to do it this way; not try to 'make it more efficient' by adding other tasks in the mix, just knuckle down and get through it in Artaeum.

Shadowfen is a terrible zone to level scrying, unless you buy a bunch of treasure maps for it for the Ancestral Nord motif pages.

Personally, I do blues and greens in each zone until I complete the lore entries and can do purples, and then I farm the purple furnishing in the zones that have those, like Bangkorai, Stonefalls, The Rift, Eastmarch, Vvardenfell, just to name a few.

And you only have to get to level 7 on alts.

I'm currently working on my 6th alt.

Note that you can scry things on one character and excavate them on the alt, so you can dig up purples before your character can scry them. It speeds up the leveling. Some people will even do yellows, but I'm lazy.

This is interesting, thanks for that tip!

I don't get it, why do you feel the need to level Scrying on more than one character in the first place? There is nothing to having the skill lines that affects any other aspect of game play. And leads are account bound so any you get on alternate characters are automatically shared with the one that has it leveled. Plus any mythic items acquired can be cheaply reproduced via the transmute station, making it simple to give all your characters a copy if desired.

I level antiquities on everyone - because I find it fun (keep FIRMLY in mind that I also find the psijic quest line fun and level it on everyone too....) and I don't want to swap characters to dig. I want everyone I'm playing to just keep going when I'm on them - and also I have a bad habit of forgetting about leads I stumble across on whoever.

As the OP stated they are doing it for the passive skill that makes treasure chests glow. It's quite useful thing to have on a character for some people.

Like others have said here, Arteaum is the place to do it. Smaller map, no enemies to attack you and slow you down. It's also a nice relaxing thing to do at times when you are bored of doing other stuff. You can also actually have the game music on since that dang annoying combat music wont come into effect here!

I have done 6 chars to lvl 9 so far here. It's good cash too. I have 10 chars altogether and had planned to going to lvl 9 on all of them until I found out something recently. That lvl 10 reward, the lead that sits in one of the buildings in Solitude that is worth 100k, can be done on ALL your chars apparently, so my new goal is to get them all to level 10 for an easy million gold. :p

    Good luck, have fun! :)

I found this very insightful but I still find leveling up this skill line absolutely boring tbh.... Also, I wish the leads would not have a time limit to them. 😐

I did it on one of my characters and one on each of my alt accounts for the mythics. Good luck doing it on all your toons !! 😊

Yeah, I don't know that I'd go for level 10 on more than one character, unless it was naturally over time.

On my alts, I do it in bits. Right now, I'm distracted by Midyear Mayhem, but afterwards, I'll go get a couple of leads, dig them up, do something else, come back, and so on. They will all get there soon enough.

All my alts would spend an hour or so in turn a day in Arteum farming green, blue, repeat to level 7 for the glowy chest perk. Not too bad.

As far as I'm aware, the Al-Esh Ascension coin lead is only available (like the 5k purples) on the first character on each account. I just took an Antiquities level 10 there to see, and it's not available for her, after my main had already done it.

I’ve maxed scrying on all 18 of my characters and found it quite relaxing. Like with most of the skill lines it’s slow at first and difficult with the initial character. As you continue though you end up with a system when a main character finds leads passively and you switch to another to scry and excavate.

Yes it takes time but it’s in no way unfair.

    Some thoughts:
    • Strictly speaking, all you need to level for the treasure chest passive is Excavation.
    • Once you hit Level 5 in Excavating, you can dig up gold leads. Gold leads advance you faster in Excavation (and in Scrying) that purple ones do (10 points vs. 5).
    • So for antiquarians after your first one -- once you hit Level 5, you can advance most of the rest of the way on Void-Crystal Anomalies. (This does assume the new antiquarian has good access to Coldharbour.)
    • One implication: Once you hit Level 5, you don't have to spend any more skill points in Scrying if you don't want to.

I save up the purple and higher leads, scry them with my max Scrying character, and let the other characters dig them up.

With practice, you can dig up a gold lead with nothing but a single point into the Trowel. That's right -- one point.

Sometimes don't succeed if I don't pin down the item's location, and you give up extras, but about 80% rate of success with just trowel level 1.

So happy I did it on most of my alts back then you could start doing void crystals at lvl 5.

Yeah, the purple and that one gold are once only. But the greens and blues go on forever, and with my alt setup it's still pretty good money. And it's a LOT more fun than writs on gazoolas of characters every day.
