Aetheric ciphers and vvardenfell in a nutshell

Since vvardenfell is (for quite some time now) part of the base game, does that mean we can potentially drop etheric ciphers and dust in those parts? Asking for a friend ;)

Vvardenfell is not part of the base game. Aetherial ciphers and dust are locked to the original game zones and no DLCs.

Morrowind is part of the base game now. Standard edition does come with the Chapter.
I guess it still gets recognised as a DLC though.

The standard edition includes the Morrowind chapter, therefore I'd count it as base game nowadays. Due to it's a chapter it's unlikely aetherial ciphers and dust would drop in there but you never know with rare items! Could've been a hidden thing I never paid much attention to.

Technically it’s not base game. Base game are the original zones with One Tamriel and Craglorn. Vvardenfell is two “chapters” removed from such. It’s not “free” for all players as those who purchased the Gold Edition or One Tamriel do not get Morrowind for free.

Furthermore it’s not coded as base game. It’s simply an expansion that depending on the version you purchase you may or may not get. There are still codes for just One Tamriel and the Gold Edition out there that don’t get players access.

I guess if you start the game off now, or whenever it has been added to the Standard Edition, you just go and consider it "base game" without being actually base game.
I know I got it when I bought my copy of ESO 3 or so years ago, and I didn't notice it was a DLC until my fiancé pointed out he did not have it.

From what i understand though, ciphers and dust don't drop in Cyro or crag, so really its limited to the Alliance zones.

Yeah - when I first started in June 2018, the gold edition came with Vvardenfell, and that's where I started with my first character (and boy, what a nostalgia rush Jiub was!)

I'm totally unsure what the whole "ladder" is now. And three years on, it doesn't matter to me - but it might to others.

I’ve gotten several dusts from both Cyrodiil and Craglorn. It’s rarer to hear from Cyrodiil due to the spread out nodes and lack of farmers but both the cipher and dust can be gotten there.

It's not base game if it was my 2nd psn account would have access to the zone.

You can argue the Imperial City and Craglorn are since everyone has access. But for Vvardenfell I have to either sub or buy an entire new edition of the game.

If I stop subbing to ESO+, I lose access to Vvardenfell. My inventory account doesn’t have ESO+ and can’t access Vvardenfell, and is prompted to buy it from the Crown Store if I try to port there. It’s not part of the base game.

I saw it dropping in DLC dungeon (Mazzatun).

Really? I wouldn't expect it in any instanced content, much less in a DLC. Was it from an event box perhaps?

I think it's because of where the dungeon is located. It's supposed to be in Shadowfen, which is base game, so I assume it shares the same drops.

I know that dungeons can drop paintings from chests based off of the zone they are into, so this follows maybe the same logic?

So you're in the same situation as I was, you've purchsed ESO before Tamriel one came out and therefore ZOS still wants to charge you for the vvardenfell expansion but everyone who started (with the base game purchase) after a certain point will receive vvardenfell for "free" or included in the standard edition who ever you'd like to see it.

Aetherial Dust and the Cyphers will drop from the base game Alliance zones and Coldharbour.

Craglorn and Vvardenfell aren't among them. Cyrodiil probably not either, but I haven't spent a lot of time harvesting nodes to really ever get an Aetherial Dust in that zone anyway.

Base game is zones at "original" launch.
Craglorn was not a part of that and neither was IC.
When a tip says Base Game Zones, pre - Craglorn is what is meant.

Yes, they drop in Cyro as it's part of the base game. But a definite no for Crag, IC and Vvard--those are all additional content that came out after the original base game release, regardless of whether you have to pay for them now or not.

Dust and cyphers only drop in Cyro, Coldharbour and all of the base game Alliance zones, including the starter zones. But anything that was released after the base game is a no.

When I have ESO+ active, I make a habit of harvesting any nodes I pass by. Dusts are very rare but definitely do drop from base zone nodes for me. Cipher drops I've never seen but it drops from any enemy in base zones. My understanding is overland or instance should make no difference as long it is in base zone.

Vvardenfell is part of the standard SKU, but is technically a DLC still as far as the game logic for drops etc.
