Companions are a bonus, not the focus. The cost for the expansion isn't derived from two glorified NPCs.

There will be more Companions in future DLC, but you're just getting these two Tomatoes for Blackwood.

what's the main selling point of the expansion then?

what's the big new feature this year. Feel free to elaborate because it isn't the 'zone' or 'story.' Never has been the main selling point in any MMO expansion. Usually there are new features and changes that get people excited to buy into the expansion. I'm trying to figure out where that is in this one aside from the two new companions.

The selling point has been the story, whether you like it or not.

All the ads on websites like YouTube and Twitch exclusively talk about "The Gates of Oblivion year long story" and don't even give the slightest mention of companions. The same way Greymoor ads didn't talk about Antiquities, Elsweyr didn't mention Necromancers, Summerset didn't mention Jewelry Crafting, and Morrowind didn't mention Wardens.

Yes, the expansions with new classes did feature them in the trailers, but they didn't advertise any info in them. A person with no experience with ESO wouldn't look at the Morrowind trailer and think "If I want to summon a bear, I need THIS expansion."

Thing is I see this guy asking the selling point when they made it very very clear that the chapter will not have any major major system because they wanna focus on continuing to try and fix things this year. Granted companions to me seem like a big one but not to them apparently . This year is def just a weird one since this chapter was made while the whole dev team where stuck at home making it remotely

    Well welcome to TES :)
MMO or not, TCG or not,CK3 or not, it is all about 3 things.
    1)Exploration
    2)Story
    3)Lore
