Any official statements about the total companions we are getting in our $40 purchase?

I splurged without detailed info and bought the expansion because I have nothing else to do, saw their big banner on Steam, and other MMO releases this year are still so far away. I like this much better than Greymoor stupid scrying thing (it was nice at first but then you realize it's just a mini game that you have to grind over and over again).

The biggest thing that lacking for me was the amount of available companions, just 2, really?

Has ZoS released official statement about additional companions? Are future companions will be included with our Blackwood purchase or we have to spend another money to get them as well.

Companions are a bonus, not the focus. The cost for the expansion isn't derived from two glorified NPCs.

There will be more Companions in future DLC, but you're just getting these two Tomatoes for Blackwood.

You did have the option to watch their live streams, which are all over YouTube, or read articles about them. This would have informed you about what you were getting.

No, of course not. No one should ever have to pay for new content. No one in the company ever wants paid for their work.

You know, you could try WoW.

Problem with that is you have to sub.

Once you do you get all the base game content and expansions up to the newest stuff. However if you want the newest stuff, you have to :gasp: pay for it, in addition to your sub.

You buy blackwood, you get access to companions... I'm sure youll get more companions with future updates. But if you're freaking out about paying to keep getting companions... look at any other bethesda game: every fallout game... every elder scrolls game.. when you buy the expansions you get access to more followers.

So are we getting more companions included with our $40 or no?
Can you link me to their livestream/videos where they talk about their plan with the future companions and how they are going to monetize it

No word on additional companions, but it can be expected that they will eventually make it into the Crown Store as additional purchases. They will probably be treated a very similar to how they did house guests, but cost more.

Lol the cost of this chapter isn't even justified with companions as the marketed main selling point. This is the first chapter I had no problem skipping until it goes on sale later this summer, and Oblivion is my all-time favorite game.

No one knows, maybe one will be a daily reward, or buyable with endeavours, or part of an event. But most likely you'll have to buy them in some way, yeah, whether directly or as part of the next DLC.

They are not going to give us anything for FREE... unless it's part of the 'base game', which companions are not... and even to have access to companions (present and future) you'll have to have Blackwood, kind of how Jewelry crafting is only available if you have Summerset. Unless, at a later date, they break it out separately, allowing people to buy access to companions.

I fully expect that new companions will be either part of future DLCS or perhaps relegated to only Chapters... yet, I would also expect them to be available in the Crown Store at a future date.

    [snip]

Na I'd bet $100 he's not. People don't realize that they put a bunch of work into the new zone, quests and trials. You get skill points, you get skyshards, and you get a bunch of extra exploration for $40. Then there are two basically useless companions as well. If you're buying the expansion for the companions, don't buy the expansion.

More companions are forthcoming in more updates. People seem to forget that once every quarter there is a free ESO+ Trial event. It’s not difficult to assume that one can easily get these additional companions without having to subscribe or pay.

I’m also sure that you must have access to Blackwood for companions to work. Like Greymoor for antiquities or Summerset for jewelry crafting.

Technically, no, actually the Companions are the only reason why this is a Chapter, instead of a DLC. The other stuff like the zone, the quests, and the trial are all DLC content. Companions are the only extra feature for Blackwood. They aren't a "bonus" and the cash cost of Blackwood is absolutely tied to the new feature of Companions.

Now, true, one might compare our two Companions to the other Chapter features like...hmmm...
    - Battlegrounds & Warden
    - Jewelry crafting & Psijic Order
    - Necromancer
    - Antiquities
...And might think to oneself that perhaps this Chapter is a little lacking. Even ZOS admitted that Blackwood was going to be light on features thanks to the pandemic and their work situation.

Companions is a pretty radical concept for ESO and the devs said they wanted to introduce it in a relatively small scale manner, allowing time to work out any bugs/considerations. They anticipate evolving the companion system to include both more companions and more features. A question about romance options was asked, for example, and the devs said it is absolutely on their agenda for the future but, again, they wanted to start fairly simply and make sure the basics were working well before scaling things up.

Worse, then an new expansion drop max level increases and endgame moves to the next expansion who you can not touch unless you have it.
Compare it to ESO there you miss out some nice gear

You keep saying that, but this isn’t a Bethesda game. ESO is Zeni’s first title, and it’s the only MMO in the TES library. What the Bethsoft studio did with followers in single player titles has no influence on what the Zeni studio will do with companions in this, a monetized b2p mmo.

You won't have to pay for the future companions exactly, as the companion system comes with Blackwood. Like Antiquities with Greymoor, new antiquities will be added into the game with every DLC/Chapter. You don't have to pay for those antiquities necessarily, but more than likely, a lot of the new antiquities will be in the new zone added; therefore, you aren't paying for the antiquities, most likely, but more the new system/zone/story/class/etc. What will likely happen is ZOS will add new companions in the future, where some companions will be in those new zones, be crown store exclusives (I see them doing this with companions that are in the actual story already, such as Naryu), or be in existing zones as a way to incentivize people going back to those zones. So you don't have to pay for them only necessarily, besides those that will be crown store exclusives (and even then, that's only a possibility as that brings up which companion will be stronger and can lead to pay to win arguments).

I'm truly excited to see what new companions we get and to see if we will get any companions that are already in the main stories/side quests, such as Razum-Dar. The new features that they've talked about, such as romance features, will add a lot of new roleplaying opportunities in the game and breathe more Elder Scrolls into it.

what's the main selling point of the expansion then?

what's the big new feature this year. Feel free to elaborate because it isn't the 'zone' or 'story.' Never has been the main selling point in any MMO expansion. Usually there are new features and changes that get people excited to buy into the expansion. I'm trying to figure out where that is in this one aside from the two new companions.

Now Naryu or Razum-Dar will be problematic as Raz show up a lot not only in the AD quests but also, gold coast, Summerset and he has an quest in Northern Elsweyr. Naryu also on gold coast and Morrowind.

This is an problem if you have not done all the related quests. Yes they would be very popular companions but find it hard to implement.
