It's much easier to be a part-time healer than a tank. If you equip a resto staff, change your skills, and otherwise use the same gear, attribute points, CP and Mundus Stone healing that you'd use for other kinds of content, you can be a decent dungeon healer, with group DPS being only a few percent lower than it would have been if you'd equipped a Major Courage set and so on. Indeed, some would argue that by being more serious about personal DPS, you actually IMPROVE the group over where it would be if you had a more classical healing build.
This assumes, of course, that you're on a magicka character who has bothered to unlock the relevant skills.
It kinda depends because sometimes you may need a defensive ult to keep people up and Barrier is harder to get than Inner Fire.
That said most of the time people have their own self heal. So you just kinda have to glance at their hp bars when you fight and toss them a heal every now and again. And that's easier than paying attention to the boss's mechanics so you can hold it in place. And some bosses hit really hard, more than a lot of fake tanks can take in their dps gear. For those bosses, you may need a different monster helm or gear. And changing up a build is harder than using a couple of skills.
So ultimately which is easier is really gonna depend on your own situation. Which backup gear you have (if any), which skills you have unlocked doing the activities you already enjoy, and how good you are at watching health vs watching bosses.
Personally though, as I said before, I think healing is easier. I usually do tank though because a lot of fake tanks don't have a taunt, and I do. So at least I don't have to ever deal with the annoyance of the boss doing whatever the hell it wants to the team if I do the tanking.
And I think the ease of the dungeon increasing dramatically and consistently when I do the fake tanking vs some jerk with no taunt far outweighs the difficulty differences of faking either role.
In easier content, it doesn't matter. In harder content, a tank is much more important than a healer. Therefore, a healer can deviate further from their role without causing an issue. Typically, that just means more DPS, which often is actually a good thing.
Don't get me wrong, I prefer to play with a good healer, but pretty much all four man content works just fine with three DPS that can take care of themselves, as long as you have a competent tank.
tank because you basically just need a taunt on your dps. healer you gotta keep others alive which is harder if you not actually built for it.
but it all depends on the content
Hard disagree. In just about any content you are more likely to succeed with 1 real tank and 3 dps than 3 dps and a healer. You can't out heal one shots.
i have 3 in 1 build for Sorc. Vet vanila dungeons only. Tank + burst healer + 32k dps (heavy attack build).
Inner beast for taunt (+5% damage as nice bonus). Ele drain and damage orbs as well. Aegis to block heavy attacks. Works perfect.
Again, only for base game vet dungeon, don't mess with vet DLC with such build!
