How would you rate ESO overall?

OK, I'll try to create my own short list, not everything will be included ofc, but some just points:

    The bad:

Not enough information is provided through normal game UI. E.g. what does 1800 armor really mean? How much is 200 dodge rating? etc. No ingame way to find out what sift cap is (w/o usage of addons)

Overall inventory system lacks sorting and grouping. Need addons to make it at least somewhat ok-ish. Still, provisioning mats are the worst, no color coding makes usage of those extremely hard w/o online data sheets

Trading system. Right now it seems trading through WTS /z is much more effiicient then using guild store of 500 people guild. Not enough filtering in store UI, no search function.

It seems that diminishing returns are either not existent or I duno (ability to stack ulty reduction gear that just adds percantage is kinda bad) I have no idea how armor reduction debuffs are stacking either.

Bugs with skills/issleading descriptions, these are the worst. You try to build around skill description only to find out it doesn't work or works in a different way than you expected.

Some voice acting is pretty bad.

Quest bugs - I have high tolerance to such issues, but my frioends don't.

Game feels not group-friendly. Chests and resources should be instanced, we, as a group, should be able to activate quest objectives, so it counts for the whole group. The all "phasing" issue.

Some textures are pretty low quality

    No official SLI/CFX support.

EU servers in US... This is really bad for me, lag spikes and overall feel of the game is pretty bad at times. PvP is laggy as hell (Not sure if ping related, or some bugs)

    The Good:

I very much like the game. Quests are fun if you listen to them. Not many quests that require any sort of grind.

Combat system is fun and dynamic.

It is very interesting to expiriment with different skills and combos. The whole skill system is interesting.

Crafting is pretty nicely done (if we forget about some issues with UI)

Visual part is very nice, I like the art of the game. And different locales have unique feel to them. (I would love higher draw distance though)

    Music is solid and relaxing.

Dialogs and ingame humor are pretty good. My favourite dog in the cage in AD starter island is so good :)

Main story quest is pretty fun, despite being predicatble. I really like choices.

    Not decided yet:

PvP. Need more time to have my own opinion.

I think enough for now. I enjoy the game, but ZOS have a lot of work to do.

    5 of 10

And I absolutely loved it in beta. I was so thrilled we went the box imperial limited edition.

    -Pros-

I love the graphics and some of the scenes in the game are just breath-taking and make beautiful desktop pictures.

The voice acting in most the game is nice.

The freedom to make the character I want and not have to follow some cookie cutter character.

The fighting style is pretty sweet since my hands aren't as young as they use to be.

Some of the skills are just pretty awesome when activated not to overwhelming and bright.

The unquie way of the skilling tree. This gives some pretty interesting characters and that they actually do well. I've seen some pretty interesting players characters.

Some (let me repeat), some of the quest are interesting and I want to know the outcome.

The freedom to do what I want in game (meaning do I quest, do I explore, do I craft, or etc).

    -Cons-

The gold spammers and their bots. I'm sorry ESO isn't the very first MMO out of the box. It is like they actually thought they wouldn't be hit by this infestation that hits every MMO out there that I know of. So it's a baby MMO or this is their first time isn't excuse I will accept.

The log-on and log-off mini game to make certain aspects of the game work. Really hate mini games in most MMOs (smirks).

The bugged quests that stops you on a dime when actually I give 2 gold about what is going to happen next in a certain quest chain. There is still a lot of bugged quests.

The lore is just average to boring and I played Skyrim and read all the books I could, but here it seems like blah happened and blah will happened and oh here's a recipe I'll throw in (The player can't use these recipes it's in a book and yellow not learnable).

The voice acting on some NPCs goes from laughable to just blink and you hear yourself say seriously? The tree guy Brackenleaf is just so sadly dull and sad to be such an important guy. He was the worse so far in my adventures. The switching of voice acting in mid story of an NPC quest giver. Ran across two that was obviously two different voice actors while the NPC talked about the quest it was like he was possessed..DX

The so anti social of the game. I see other players but who the heck are they?

The grouping is just...mind boggling when so many solo instances are thrown in. This game has the MOST solo instances I've ever played. What is the point of grouping when most things you have to do yourself? There is this puzzle I am in a group with my fiance and we each have to do it separately. We are told to help people, but either my fiance or I can mess up each other quest because things vanish if one of us do it. Not sure I explain this correctly, but this game feels on the most like a single player game with the MMO DLC that wasn't quite flushed out. I play an MMO to group or play with my partner/better half, not for a bunch of solo instances or content..that is what I have Skyrim for.

The economy is just a hot mess. Everything is expensive and the rewards are cheap. Suddenly I can wonder around and fight a few mobs and my repair bill at level 31 is as high as feeding two horses. Kill a mini boss and get 2 or 3 gold and some random crap. The guild store is an amusing joke. The price they charge you just to place an item in the store is astonishing and I've seen many MMOs player's store and Auction Houses..this game is the worst. They punish you for wanting to sell your wares. I have done a quest at level 30 and my reward was 49 gold and nothing else..XD not even enough to cover the repair of my armor or feed my horses (have 2 and each cost 1 gold). I could almost write a book about this so, I'll stop here.

Trying to save Towns is just a comedy show. The NPCs could care a less that their town is over-run by bad guys. They greet you like you come to visit their town and it is just a beautiful wonderful day. There is no immerision here. Help them kill a mob that is attacking them and get a hearty Hello or Greetings (this gives me a laugh because it like it should be added Beautiful day for walk, Yes?). There is no urgency that they are fighting for their town or even their lives for ducky sake. I've played many MMOs with this kind scene and this one is the worst.

This isn't indepth view because I just woke up and haven't had my coffee. I would say this game can go up to a 7 of 10 if it is worked on. I will say as a solid agreement to my fiance and I, I will give it until the fall/winter when another MMOs expansion comes out. I believe this game could be better and more fun to play. And not punish the player that is paying a sub for a single player game with the MMO DLC, but it needs some serious work.

Great points. In regards to the bugs my hope is Zenimax fixes main class skills such as the Nightblade which suffers from the most bugged skills of any class
Comprehensive list of bugged Nightblade skills.

Probably next in priority is to balance some skills such as the DragonKnights Darktalons which is ridiculously overpowered in pvp as it is the only CC in the game that cannot be blocked, broken, or negated by cc immunity skill like immovable. This kind of CC would be intolerable in any other pvp oriented game.

My score for the game right now would be B- 8/10.
  • yeathatguy
I rate this a 4/10 and I will explain my frustration.
I am a vetran MMO player I have played titles that held my interest for years.
    WoW = 5 yrs
    Rift = 1yr
    SWTOR = 3 yrs
and 1200 hrs of Skyrim (for reference to this game style)

Now I spend money on the Imperial edition after having Beta tested this game and believing incorrectly that the bugs that were reported would be addressed before release (my mistake I know). But it's not just the bugs sadly there is a huge botting issue that wrecks my play thru and I hate the tedious bag management (I have a hard time understanding why you have so many crafting options and then offer so little bag/bank space) its a setup for failure when you reduce a player to constant inventory management. The ability to earn Gold and sell items is not scaled to the cost of in game spending. Bottom line here is people play games to have fun and escape to a place where they can adventure with their friends. Instead I find myself debating logging in and often regretting the results when I do. I know you fan boys will tell me its my problem not the game and to that I respond with my history of gaming "If it was a good game and I was happy I would not be here I would be playing the game"

9/10 here, having a lot of fun, but I have done only PvE.
Did PvP in beta and will wait until 50 (soon).

I notice a trend in reading these comments. Those that seem to have focused in mostly PvE content rate the game higher than those who focus on PvP.
That would leave me to believe that bugs/problems in PvP are effecting more of the game play.
Many of the bugs I have experienced in the PvE content have already been addressed so they are working on them.
I agree with badly needing a faction wide AH, have tried two different trading guilds and both have stunk so far. But does this really spoil game play?
    Combat is fun and fluid.
Bosses are creative and not the same fight with different names and effects.
Their are a huge number of ways to play every class, so we do not see 'cookie cutter best setups' someone looked up on the web.

I really like the fact that this is not a cartoon game, thinking Gw2, Wow, which look like it was designed for 10 year olds.

Not sure why people ding the whole of a game over bag space? At least they did not go the route of Neverwinter where you HAVE to pay real money to get bag space. Yes, it may play differently based on bag space available. Yes, I would like to be able craft bags, like GW, enchanting bag, provisioning bag, so on.

Hands down the best story of any MMO, IMO
I picked up the sword and raced into battle, died.
I again, raced into battle wielding the sword, died.
    Once again, died.
It was only then that I considered maybe the pointed end should face out.

Tough to put a rating on it because the things that are good are really good but the things that are bad are just unbelievably bad. So I give it a bi-polar rating of whatever.

The game has no soul yet but for now I still find it interesting and enjoyable enough to keep playing (for now). If Zeni would focus on group play and throw aside the idea of single player the game could make huge strides. I think this is where ESO's potential truly lies.

PvE is mindnumbingly boring. If you expect this game to survive off of PvE, you are very VERY delusional. The only positive thing said and felt anywhere about this game is PvP and I personally usually hate the ePeen PvP.

You are correct that 99% is PvE and that 99% is crap, hence the rating. Veteran ranks is the most boring end game EVER.

1-50 was pretty fun the first time around. But after hitting Vet 2, I don't really want to play anymore. Knowing its going to be the exact same thing for any alts I've made. Quests are too boring and unrewarding. Even leveling up after 50 doesn't feel worth it anymore. No more attribute points. Skills don't morph anymore. Just blah.

PVP is great, and I normally avoid PVP. But even then, in PVP, it seems all it is is zerg this, lose that, zerg it back. Ganking was fun for a few days. But its getting old. Fast.

6/10 for me. Really enjoyed it my first time through pve. Till Veteran ranks. PvP was fun for a few days, but its getting repetitive, and I've only been at it since I hit V1 late last week.

MMOs almost always have a grind factor, but it shouldn't feel like a chore. It should be fun. Or at least rewarding. ESO's fun is pretty much all in the journey, and it feels like the journey ends at 50.

Well lets see. I'm going for a category rating system, with overall determined from those averaged.
    • Graphics: 9/10 - Subjective, but I think the graphics are fabulous for an MMO. Beautiful scenery, lots of variety in armors/weapons even at lower levels. The variety in racial motifs is a nice change from most MMOs that I’ve played.
    • Gameplay/Questing: 7/10 - So far so good. We'll see what happens when I hit Vet Ranks. I think first toon through vet ranks will be fine, not sure about replay value though for high level alts.
    • Combat System: 7/10 - Pretty good, but could really use more skill slots to explore more skill synergies. There should be no limitation here solely due to consoles since they will be on their own server. 6 or 7 plus ultimate would do it for me. Would like to see more diversity in skill specs by NPCs. Too obvious right now what skills you need to defend against just based on mob name alone.
    • Crafting System: 7/10 - Not the most fun crafting system, but decent so far. My biggest complaint is the storage required for three of the crafting lines is way out of whack with the others (i.e. Alchemy, Enchanting, and Provisioning). Holy smokes I would need a bank for each.
    • Skills System: 6/10 – Ok but there are many synergies here that could lead to some interesting combat action that will never be realized due to the five skills per weapon setup. Passives are weak and underpowered and should really do more. First point gets me +3% second gets me to +5%? Is 6% really going to break the bank? Feels like I wasted that second point. Same with the skill morphs, they need to be made a more meaningful decision (some are, but not many).
    • Fun Factor: 8/10 - Having fun so far. We'll see what happens in the months ahead if this game will hold my attention or not.
    • Customer Support: 5/10 - Could be a lot better. The forum mods do pretty good with the impossible task they have. But the back-end support has been atrocious up to this point. Hopefully things keep improving as they seem to be getting up to speed.
    • Overall Score: 7/10
    On Class Balance

8/10 with the potential to be a LOT higher.

I am kind of an Elder Scrolls junkie (been playing since Daggerfall), so maybe I am biased.

Yes, the game has its flaws...mainly the bots and gold spamming. But those are being addressed. In fact, the last few nights, gold spamming has noticeably decreased and I have read on these forums that the bot problem is slowing starting to be taken care of. And I haven't received a gold spam email or guild invite in over 3 days.

People need to have patience...especially with an MMO.

Having played just about every MMO since Neverwinter Nights on AOL (released in 1991) to ESO, I can say almost every one of them had a rocky launch. Some of them were almost unplayable for WEEKS after release...

I guess coming in to ESO, I just expected issues. I expected some crashing (which, in 60+ hours of playing, I have crashed three times, the girlfriend has only crashed once in her 60+) and some login issues. Overall, just grading the launch stability compared to previous MMO launches...I would say ESO rates a solid 9 in that department.

I realize others have had issues...but for myself and my girlfriend, we have experienced very little of them. And I can only rate/grade a game based upon MY experience.

And as others have said...the potential for this game truly is amazing. A lot of games launch and they are just a shell of a game (Defiance, I am looking at you), but this game already has a ton of content.

I haven't really had to use customer service, so I can't comment on that. But as others have said, customer service isn't really a reflection on the game itself.

I think my biggest (and only) fear is that this game will go F2P...

Outside of that, this game really could be something special.

I'd rate it, atm, 6-7/10. As much as I wanted to absolutely love the game, it just has too many issues to shine. It has a great foundation, but too many small nagging issues that really bring it down a ton.

    Pros:
-Combat is fun. Active block/dodge is a lot of fun
-Skill lines. I can make my sorc heal/dps/tank, whatever. It's awesome and there are a lot of really cool skills.
-PvP. The general implementation of PvP is really well done. I love taking keeps and defending them etc.

Cons: this is just a few of my main issues, there are a lot more.
-PvP rewards. I find PvE in ESO to be boring, bland, and just terrible. But to do my best in PvP, I'm forced to do PvE content or grind for the next thousand years so that I can get a character to level 15 in PvP.
-Guild functions. Guilds are VERY simplistic. 4 ranks, 2 of which are leader/officer. Bank withdraw limits? nope, it took all of a day before we had to remove ALL withdraw permissions. guild history too short. Guild store is clumsy and even when you do figure it out, you won't find what you want.
-PvE. It's some of the most average bland ideas I've seen. Story is about as bland as it comes (big guy comes, does bad, oh no!, you save world....woop'de'friken'doo...). Characters are boring (who do you choose to kill in quest x? Because it really doesn't matter or hurt you...you don't even care who you have to kill because your never given a reason to care about a single npc...)
-Dungeons. There isn't a lot of need for a tank it seems. Most mechanics I've seen are mechanics I've seen in other MMO's. Most are forgetable. I had one pug member who couldn't remember a boss fight, asked me what was memorable and the only thing we could come up with was that the fight was memorable because it wasn't memorable in any way shape or form.
    -Bots. No explanation needed here.
-minimal interface is too minimal. I like that they made the UI minimal, but now I have to get an addon to show basic features. How much damage did I do? How much damage did I take? I don't know...Thank god for foundry! I'm an alchemist, so when I go to make a potion for "spell power" I have to hunt and peck through all my ingredients to figure out which ones have "spell power" based on a tiny icon. No search function? wtf? can't name potions so the potion that heals me is named the same as the potion that heals me, recovers stam and magicka...
I think right now, the game is painfully average even though it has such a great foundation. I really don't know if I'll be able to keep my sub for it tbh.

Edit: gonna rethink my score to a 5-6/10 simply for the audacity to put an entire race behind a paywall and race/alliance options behind a preorder in a sub based game. That is, imo, easily worth deducting a point or two for...

I would give it...mh lets see...
    8/10

    Reason?
    Positive:

    Class Design
its great, it does not feel like Skyrim or Oblivion, but still, you have a free choice how to play. You can play everything with any class. NB as a Tank? why not? Sorcerer Tank? even that is possible.

    Quests
Sure they are bugged. But they feel good. Its not like the common "go there kill that, or collect these things because reasons" it feels just better. There is a small story behind everything.

    All the little things
The details are sometimes just great.
A skeleton holding a skyshard in a cave, NPCs talking about things when you pass them...
there are so many little details.

    PVP
It looks a little bit like GW2, but it feels better.
No random zerging around, the teleport-paths are way more strategic, the whole class design gives a lot of possibilities (cant wait to get my own sniper-squad)
    Its just...good.
Sure...bugs...but whatever, in theory it is nice.

    Negative:
    Ability Bugs
They should not survive a Beta. But a lot of them get fixed with Craglorn.

    Bots
They are annoying. Im glad that i have not seen them in time. All the flaming about the GMs...i mean...atleast they try to solve that problem. Its not that easy to fix them in a fair way for everyone.

    The Bad
Needs dueling. Would love to test out builds with my friends. Need to nerf the vampires ultimate because I'm seeing too many winning 1v10s if the group has no heals. If a vampire ults into your 15 man group and you don't have heals you might be f'ed. I think breaking out of CC should cost less stamina.. The battles would be much more epic. Instead of being stunned half of the time because the spam knockdowns on you...

    The Good

PvP is just awesome. Like, best pvp I've experienced in a long time. PvE was okay for the most part, but once you hit Veteran Dungeons it REALLY picks up in difficulty. Seriously, Veteran level dungeons are so challenging and bring us some very unique boss fights. PvE is actually great in my opinion. I haven't felt intensity in a boss fight in a very long time in any mmo. Obviously the viduals and graphics are outstanding. The game still has so much potential to work with for future combat. I'm extremely excited to see what Zenimax Online Studios comes up with. Silt striders, umbra, dark brotherhood, thieves guild, daedric princes, snow elves, dwarves, the list goes on . .

    Suggestions
More music. I also want to see enchanters with the ability to craft empty soul gems. Arenas like 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5 would just be perfect. Trust me, I LOVE the 100vs100vs100 combat.. But the personal stuff is just as intense. Please add underwater swimming. The game would open up so much. Needs more variety in mounts. Where's the guar mounts? Where's the silt striders?

    Bank
Too Small, too many Trophys and Customes

Aw man, don't take away my customes that is almost the pure fun of it. I love the costumes..because the armor is drab and boring. :P And I am dead serious and that is sad that I find the fluff more aspiring than most the dull quests (some quests perked my curiousity though, but not many).

I Now days I do not understand how a game can even consider itself a MMO if it doesn't have voice chat. Why should I have to download 3rd party software to get this game to do what it should have been included with. ...

No controller support. 95% of what you need can easily be mapped to a controller and would make the game much more enjoyable to a lot of people. We would still have keyboard handy for the rare times it was needed but that is it.

You reek strongly of a console player who hasn't matured into the master race of pc players.

Third-party programs for voice chat has been, and still is, a fact of life for virtually any and every multiplayer pc game in the last ten years. And it's not even a hassle to set up. If every game dumbed down its key mapping to be squeezed into a controller, there'd be a million and one Fable copycats out here. The game's enjoyable just fine posing as the pc mmo it's trying to be.
