Companions start out doing things wrong?

Well, it didn't take long for me to start scratching my head:

"Bastian begins wearing Medium Armor and a Destruction Staff while Mirri starts off with Light Armor and a Bow. "

Why do they start out doing things wrong? Isn't this kind of a bad learning experience for new folks?

Maybe the companions are inexperienced, might make sense given they start at level 1 themselves, they are probably on their first adventurer and do not know that medium armor is bad for spell casting.

I guess...I just wanna know what the conversation was that led to "lets make a caster in medium and a bow user in light". Even if the armor weight stuff isn't the same for companions, and we know they don't have the same armor as we use, why do something like that? Such a weird choice to make.

I started with sandals, rags and a rusty iron sword.

So they're already doing a lot better than i did ...

Look, they bought into that "play the way you want" slogan.

"No, Mirri/Bastian, you'll play the way I want."

Yeah that confused me as well, I was wondering if it was a typo. If not, then I'm going to have to have words with these noobs.

I wonder if we could switch their armor if we manage to acquire both companions?

Mirri is infiltrating a cult, gotta be wearing the stereotypical robes if you want to fit in without being caught, she loves Bows.

We'll be acquiring gear for the Companions anyway. It's intended to be customizable and certain abilities are locked to particular weapons.

I can't see ZOS expecting that experienced players will leave Companions in their default gear choices for very long.

Are imperials considered a hybrid race? I know dunmer are. I saw in the patch notes the racials are baked into the companion already.

From what I saw in the companion system stream from the other day, Bastian doesn’t seem like a tank type at all (which is what I thought Imperials were typically chosen for). I hope we don’t lose standing with them because they don’t like the role we choose for them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a DK healer either.

Most of the racials would have no effect on the Companions even if they were taken into account, Bastian would get 2000 extra health and that would be it. He has no use for Stamina and none of his abilities have resource costs since they're all cast time and cooldown based.

I'm guessing that they are going for a pretty KISS solution to companion gear where light is healing, medium is DPS and heavy is tank and MAG/ Stam will have no bearing on it.

It might be an RP thing concerning their backgrounds... but still, pretty hilarious.
