How would you rate ESO overall?

Feel free to give a small review. Do you have a video review, please post it. I'd like to get feedback of what everyone thinks of the game so far.

Please no troll posts like ESO SUCKS! and no fanboi posts about how ESO is perfect.

Just an honest good points and bad points of ESO.

Bad points for me:

The Banking system is it too small. They lack of options on listings and being able to remember what items go to what character and what to not sell or destroy is pretty bad.

Guild stores need a revamp or need to go away. They charge too much. They do not have enough traffic to be really useful. The GUI for guild store is bad.

It is not a user friendly game. Very little in game GUI options. Almost anything that is helpful comes from addons. How lazy is ZOS to not add all these simple tools to ESO?

Way too many bugs. I beta tested this game for a year and there are still bugs in the game from the first day I played ESO.

The economy needs adjusting. 1 gold from kills the first 20 levels then it switches to 3 gold in the 30's. Seriously, this is just sad. Add to the fact the bank and repairs and horse cost so much at the low levels. Then you hit a point where all you do is collect gold. You go from constantly being poor to not knowing what to do with all your gold.

Good points:

Class system is really fun. It needs to balance the mana/stamina/health usage, but over all, I really enjoy the feel of the character and leveling it up. I like all the skill choices and the rock paper scissors feel to the game.

I like the combat system. It reminds me a little of the DDO combat system with a twist. While I feel the NPCs could be smarter in combat, overall I am happy.

Graphics in ESO are good. I like the way the world looks. I'm not thrilled with the bland NPCs, and the bland way the stand there and give out quests, but overall, the look of the game is the best i have seen in an MMO, IMHO.

Phasing of the boxes and other materials made the game much more user friendly. It would have been nice if you had done the same with the chests in the game as well.

Suggestions for the future:

Add more surprises into the game. Have random crap, good or bad, pop up and kick us in the ass to keep us on our toes. Have one of the gods announce a contest to find a special treasure in the land. Have a random giant monstrous creature attack a town or a horde of monsters. Have a random circus travel from town to town with player contests for us to spend gold (gold sink) and win silly prizes.

Add dueling to the game.

Let us swim underwater, you know, like Earth. Let us randomly find a chest underwater, or a dungeon entrance.

Bring back live help chat. It would be nice to have a GM in game to help us.

Make a Developers thread and ask us what we want in the game. Don't ever close that thread. Read it. Read it again. Every so often, send an email poll to every player and have them vote on what game options they would like to see based on the thread.

Don't depend on players to make up for all your shortcomings in the user friendly department. Add all the choices for us in game instead of hoping players will find enough addons to make us happy with your game. I can not tell you how many times I have talked to frustrated players because they can't do this or that in ESO, and then they are told there might be an addon for that and they are happy there is an addon and pissed it was not already in the game as an option.

I'd give ESO a 7 out of10 atm.

If they fix the bugs, banking and other annoying stuff, I would give a higher rating because really I do like the game, but I log out way too many times in frustration.

The stuff I like (a lot) was intentional. The stuff I don't like (about 20% of a lot) is unintentional. This game reminds me of a combination of Ultima 7 and Ultima Online in early release (not graphics, but emotional investment and freedom, with a side of unexpected insanity) which is about as high of a rating as my brain can phathom. Very happy.

I keep waiting for the holidays, want to see if the company shuts down for two weeks leaving us to fend for ourselves.

I wouldn't rate it based on anything buggy or glitchy, I would rate it based off the merits, qualities, and game systems present.

I couldn't give it anything worse than a B+ in that regard. It would probably be an "A" even. A lot of what they're accomplished with the core mechanics is refreshing, at least a little innovative, and different than the norm. The game plays a little clunky at times, especially with abilities clipping each other and whatnot, but again, those can be fixed and I consider them glitches or bugs.

I like pretty much everything else about the game, its really the bugs, glitches, etc that have tarnished the reputation and overall ratings of the game. But if there's one thing I've learned about MMO's:

    You can fix bugs.
You can fix glitchy animations and combat.
You can fix "not working as intended".
You CANT fix poor game design.
You CANT fix poor design philosophy.
You CANT fix poor core mechanics.

So the game at its core is very good, and what can be fixed will be fixed, so this will be a phenomenal game when it's all said and done.

    I'd give it a B.

Last week I would have said maybe C+, but the fact that they're communicating more (even if it means time away from AE grinding CS tickets) makes all the difference.

Still lots of problems, but most can be fixed.
Combat system's the same as Neverwinter, but I like it.
Quests don't really immerse me, but they usually don't unless I'm playing single player games.
Personally I'd prefer a global AH, but I can deal with it.

I really dig the level of character customization.
The graphics are beautiful and I can actually run them high.
Seeing people's creativity with Khajit and Argonian names is priceless :)

    It has potential.

It currently has huge issues with bots, hacks, exploits etc, but these are being looked it. We'll see.
Grouping desperately needs to be better, ally AI needs to be massively improved or need to allow people to group when doing storyline quests, probably both.
Inventory and gold sinks need to be better tuned, at the moment they seem to me (at level 27) to be quite harsh. As a crafterholic who doesn't sell things I can gain craft xp from, I have one bank upgrade, one inventory upgrade, and 13k gold, not enough for even the first horse. Repairs cost nearly as much as I make from questing, and I spend far too much time moving inventory around, which is not fun.
The UI needs a lot of work. It's amazing how much more information is available to add-ons than to the supplied UI.

The biggest challenge will be fixing enough issues that the playerbase doesn't have the alarming crashes in sub numbers that get investors scared that so many other MMOs have had. Hard to see how they'll pull that off.

I can't rate a game on what it could or should be. I can only rate the game I am playing atm.

I think part of a games merits and qualities has to do with how they handle these issues, both bugs and design flaws.

@‌ It would be awesome if you could tell us which scale to rate it from, instead of assuming that everyone uses the scale you are used to.

1-10 is a perfectly normal, easy to interpret, scale, and the ones which carries the most logic to it. I suggest you use that.

I will rate it 3/10 as an MMO, but 4 or 5/10 as a singleplayer game.

I would rate it as such.

    Gw2
    Tsw
    Rift
    Eso

The game feels a lot like Gw2 with less fluff. Better story line than Gw2 ill give it that. Once i got deeper into the game . I Started to notice just how much it was like Gw2 .

Combat system.(thou I think gw2 has more skills to pic from per class) Pvp ,
Crafting in this game is well dumb down. Its not very complex at all.
The dungeon's are better than that of many other games.

All in all this game is about a 6.5 out of 10. and that score is only that high due to its new.

I have been playing the game since launch. I have been having fun. There has not been a single moment where I've said I hate this game. The only thing that really bothers me is that I cannot turn left or right with the keyboard and I can't target something and use the mouse to click on the power. Otherwise, the game has been a hit for me.

If I go with that simple criteria, then it would be a 9/10. I really don't give out 10s because I'd have to write my own game for it to be perfect in my eyes. To add to this, I would also give LOTRO a 9/10, City of Heroes a 9/10 and Gemstone a 9/10 as those are multi-player games have provided me lasting enjoyment. Each has had it's weirdness and things that bugged me, but if I rate the game on how much fun I'm having, then a 9/10 is good.

ROFL! No, that is not what I meant. I mean it is hard to judge a game with all the problems. Some might be design flaws and some they might intend to keep. So, for me, I can only judge it for what it is, knowing it will probably get better, but has the possibility to get worse, too.

6 months into beta, I loved the game more than I like the game now. Not just the bugs, but all the choices they made that blew my mind, like taking away the ability to mail to yourself. I would have never guessed in a million years they would taken away the option to show NPC name plates or remove the ability to move the mana/health/stamina bar or limit the ability to make the chat bar any size you want.

Bugs will be ironed out, bots will be banned. Zenimax is doing a good job so far. They are trying the best they can and that is a very good sign.

Bottom line, Im having fun and login in with joy.

Score would be higher if EU servers would be in EU to help with lag, especially in Cyrodill.

    I will rate it 6 / 10.

If we agree launch issues doesn't count (such as botting, bugged quest/skills/bank, overwhelmed CS, balancing, etc etc...launch always mean extended beta to me, so I don't care much, though I think they could have been a little bit more prepared), here is some comments I'd like to make :
    - The "Game at its core" is good. I'm having fun playing. It's the most important to me.
    - Nice potential, but really needs continuous support from Zeni. I fear it'll just be abandoned...hope that won't be the case.
    - User interface needs serious improvements overall.
    - Social experience needs improvements too.
    - Cyrodiil lag/crashes fixed. I still lag, get disconnected or simply crash every time there's a big battle...but meh maybe that's just me :p (
    - PVP content other than RvR.
    - I like the idea of public events. But in my humble opinion the difficulty of Public dungeons, world bosses and dark anchors should be somehow scaled with the number of players participating (with a minimum level of difficulty)
    - Not really in the game, but official forums sucks. A lot.

As for end-game/Veteran PVE I haven't played it myself yet, but the rumors are that it need more content...but hey new game.

    C+???? I'd give ESO a solid A.

It has some bugs but fewer than most newly released online games. The interface really isn't intuitive. But so far, I really only found three beefs with the game:

    (1) There is insufficient inventory/bank space to actually play all 8 characters and have at least one craftsman for each available craft. Perhaps if you level just 1 character, earn lots of gold (or cheat) then you could get more space but if you play 8 low level characters, you spend too much time logging characters in and out to shuffle stuff around. That is not immersive.

    (2) I hate that lock picking is not a skill in the game. "I" am not a character in the game. "My" hand-eye coordination should be irrelevant. My character should gain skill and make the locks easier to pick. Perhaps if I was 30 or 40 years younger I might like picking the locks myself - but my younger years are past.

    (3) Why can we not swim underwater? My characters could swim underwater in other Elder Scrolls games. Am I just missing something here?

The list of good things in ESO is too long to list. The most impressive though is how well ESO retains the feel that my changes to the environment are permanent. NPC's saved don't pop back into trouble for someone else to save again (at least, not on MY screen). I love how you (OR your horse) burns endurance to sprint. I love how I hear different sounds when I walk, run or ride over different surfaces.
  • michaelpatrickjonesnub18_ESO
In an effort to determine a number I had to sift through a teeming rat's nest of faults that launch day left behind.

200 million dollar game and we can't even reply to a friends mail? But let's not get too picky, or the list would be long.

Zenimax deserves plenty of criticism: Chat serving as the marketplace. Bots out of control. Dungeon mechanics poorly designed. User interface is not always user friendly. Servers unstable. Lag, worse by the day. Subscription fee. Another PC game ruined by consoles.

There is much not to like. Man, are there ever.

But there is, also, much to like. How many times have you found yourself saying, "Lord help us with this f---- scam of a game...this has to be the coolest world I've played in."

I feel it would be too generous to rubber stamp it a 6/10 in the state the game is currently in. I would also have difficulty explaining how I arrived at my number since there is no science behind it. Just a long list of oversights and defects.
